Erik Williams may be back in my life, but I don't have to let him back into my heart.
I may look calm, but on the inside I'm losing it. See that guy playing the piano on stage up there? Auditioning for the competition I'm supposed to win? Playing at my school like he belongs here?
I knew him back in high school. Scratch that. I was desperately in love with him in high school. And the same hands that draw magic from a piano drew magic from my body like it's what he was born to do.
He said he loved me, but how could he have? That guy broke my heart into tiny little bits, and never looked back.
Now he's a fellow grad student, and I'm screwed. Because nobody plays the piano like Erik Williams. But the worst part is Erik trying to claim my heart again, and my heart acting like he has a chance.
But I won't let him. I can't. Not after what he did.

Grab the tissues and hang onto your heart! This is such an amazing second-chance romance! Ashley and Erik have the perfect young love romance, high school sweethearts except they attend different schools. They're introduced by their shared love of music, but his highly ambitious parents have other plans for their son than allowing him to sacrifice his career potential, not even for true love. Not knowing exactly why Erik abandoned her years ago, Ashley continues with her own music career while locking her heart away for good. So when he shows up five years later, she's convinced there's nothing he can say or do that would make things right. We know Ashley from the earlier Fireworks Girls books as the quiet music prodigy, and in this book her true heart shines bright. She's been through so much - and so has Erik - that our hearts just ache for these two to find their strength and comfort in each other. These two have the deepest love for each other that I've read in a long time. Once you meet young Ashley and Erik, you can't stop reading until you're all the way through. It's a compelling, heartwarming story full of loss, angst, and bitterness, with a huge helping of forgiveness and compassion as well. The writing is spellbinding, while the characters instantly come to life and will stay in your heart for a long time. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
