Overview

Nació el 26 de abril de 1798 en Charenton-Saint Maurice. En 1805 falleció su padre y un año después se traslada junto a su madre a París, donde estudia en el Liceo Louis-le-Grand, por entonces el Liceo Imperial. Su carrera artística se inicia en 1822 cuando su primer cuadro, Dante y Virgilio en los infiernos (1822, Louvre, París) fue aceptado en el Salón de París.
