Apollonia's long awaited novel, the last of the trilogy, finds Evangeline and Lorenzo living in high style in Detroit. Marriage is something Lorenzo won't consider because he has lost two wives already. He feels he has been cursed by the Mal' ochio, the evil eye, and he won't let that curse near his beloved Evangeline. He has loved her unconditionally since he was a young man, but life has a way of changing even the best laid plans. Evangeline has raised both of his sons since their birth, and is like a mother to his daughter Elena. A better wife he could never find. After the depression, Lorenzo's obligation to Ford Motor Company was fulfilled, and the family returned to New York where many grandchildren awaited their arrival. Time went on, and World War II brought much anxiety to the couple. They knew of several friends and family members who were drafted. After the war it was decided that the couple would fulfill Lorenzo's wish, and return to their homeland of Sicily. Evangeline would go to the ends of the earth for him, and going home would certainly please Lorenzo, but little did he know she had an ulterior motive.
