About the Author

I was born in San Fernando, Trinidad, an island in the southernmost region of the Caribbean. I grew up along the southern slope of the Northern Mountain Range of Trinidad. In my late teens, I migrated to the U.S. and shortly afterward, enlisted in the U.S. Army. During my enlistment, I participated in several military campaigns, including Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, to aid in the liberation of Kuwait from Iraq. I also served with NATO forces in Croatia to help end the attempted genocide of the Serbs by Croatians in Operation Provide Peace. Additionally, I was deployed with UN forces to provide relief to victims of the Hutu's genocidal actions against the Tutsi people in Rwanda, Africa.
After more than a decade of service, I attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and decided to shift gears from military service to community service. I embarked on the challenging journey of becoming a dentist. Eight years of rigorous academic training, followed by another year of residency, prepared me for the next phase of my life.
During dental school, I met Venetia, who would turn out to be my soulmate and life partner. We married and established two dental practices together. We are now raising two wonderful children, Maliya and Donovan.
