Really good book! I love eveything Victoria James writes!

Falling For the P.I. is about Kate, a woman who had a really, really difficult childhood that has left her very jaded about police, men, and any type of relationship. As far as she’s concerned, raising her special needs daughter, Janie, and being a working, single parent is all she needs to deal with. While at the pub with her sisters (actually her two best friends), they were encouraging her to go talk to any male, but especially Matt when he walked in, as they felt it was time for her to find someone. Cue intense attraction that leads to a near kiss on the dance floor until seeing someone who looks an awful like someone from her past scared her and she fled from the pub without telling her sisters. Kate is not an easy character to like. She is so closed off, so afraid of everything – especially when she finds out that Matt is an ex police officer – that the only time she shows any real emotion beyond being scared is when she’s with her daughter. Matt, however, is such a sweet guy and easily likable. Though he doesn’t want to get involved with anyone (due to being burned), he finds himself just as confusingly attracted to Kate as she feels about him. Neither want a relationship, but Kate definitely doesn’t want to be a one night stand no matter how attracted she is to him. Janie! Oh my goodness, she is just so adorable. Throughout the book we find that Janie is special and “not like the others”. Again, we find out near the end of the book as to why kids and their parents are so “scared” of her and more importantly, why Kate adopted her. Janie is well loved and protected by Kate, Cara, Alex, their kids, and of course Matt and his mother and sister when they meet her. I spent most of my time trying to decipher little clues, which Ms. James is very good at weaving into the storyline. Was it distracting? Yes, but I also enjoy trying to put everything together before the ending. I knew that Derek must’ve abused her in some way, but at one point I wondered if they’d been in an abusive relationship as he tells Matt to take what he wants from her and leave. He was so incredibly dislikeable that there were a few times when I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to continue as there were triggers that reminded me so much of my own past. I did find the initial storyline to be a bit far-fetched. Three single women who spent part of their teenage years in a group home for whatever reasons each able to adopt a child? They didn’t seem to have too tough of a time with it, or at least Kate didn’t. I assume there will be at least a third book, that one about Cara, as I know the second book in the series, Falling For Her Enemy deals with Alex’s story. Overall, this is a good book with great writing that keeps you turning the pages to find out what it is exactly that Kate is running from. I can’t wait to read Alex’s story next. Note: To familiarize myself with the Entangled Bliss line of books, I went and read the guidelines. I have to say, I was a bit confused as to how this book falls into that category when there is language {mostly tame, but there is an eff bomb towards the end}, lots of innuendo, and there’s one sex scene towards the middle-ish end. However, this didn’t affect how I felt about the book as a whole and I did not base my rating whatsoever on this.

4 - "Stop drooling and start walking." Stars! Falling for the P.I. is the first book that I have read by this author, and I will certainly be coming back again and reading more of the Still Harbor Series. Victoria James managed to catch my attention with Matt and Kate’s story, and get me so invested in it that I read it in a couple of hours (I may have even extended my lunch break at work to do so!). There is a certain charm about the authors writing, as well as the story-line, and although it is carrying a little drama in its themes, Falling for the P.I. was for the most part a heart-warming and easy to get along with read. ”Whatever it is you’re running from, you’re safe with me.” Kate struggles with trust, having spent her life being rejected and let-down by those that are supposed to love and look out for her, she has now made a life for herself with her Foster-Sisters Cara and Alex, as well as their adoptive daughters. So it is an extreme struggle for her to let Matt in, especially as she has her own adopted daughter and her needs to take into account as well. ”Don’t assume I’m like everyone else.”. Matt gave me the warm fuzzies; sweet at the right time, dominant when it was necessary, but an absolute darling throughout the whole book. ”I’ll always believe you.” As a start to a series this book really does well in giving you enough background of the secondary characters without detracting from the story building between the main couple. I liked my introduction to the town and people of Still Harbor and will be looking to visit again soon. Luckily the wait isn’t too long, as Falling for Her Enemy is due for release in early November, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Matt is one of those heroes that you pretty much fall for instantly. From the way he stands up for Kate's daughter Janie to the way he opens up to Kate, you can't help but love him. Kate wasn't as easy to love, as she keeps so much from Matt, and her past is not clear until almost the end. Overall it is a good story and their romance is sweet. Can't wait to see what's in store for Kate's sisters in the upcoming books. I received an ARC via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.

Kate and her two best friends each adopted daughters and moved to a safe town called Still Harbor. While out with the girls, Kate meets Matt. For him the attraction is instant. For her the attraction is there but so are the many questions. Is he an abuser? Can I trust him? And so on. Somehow, someway, Matt wiggles his way into Kate's life. She even starts to trust him until one day when he asked how she knew Derek Stinson. That was the one name she never wanted to hear again. This is a fantastic, highly emotional story about life after emotional and physical abuse. There's no abuse taking place in the story except for glimpses of the past. Keep the tissues handy because there are some moments that you just can't hold back the tears. I fully understand Kate's reluctance to let Matt into her life. He's almost too good to be true. No one has ever taken her side, which is why she feels she has to fight tooth and nail for every advancement in hers and Janie's lives. Janie has Downs Syndrome, which is another reason Kate has to be extra careful who she lets into her life. I love this author's writing style and I can't wait for the next book in this fabulous series. Review copy provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

Falling for the PI is a sweet small town romance with a great storyline and wonderful characters. Matt is a former cop who traded his badge for a private investigator job while Kate is a sweet and wholesome teacher raising her adoptive daughter. Kate moves to Still Harbor with her two best friends who are more like her sisters along with her daughter, Janie. While none of them are related by blood, they are a family and the only one they've ever had. The romance between Kate Matt is sweet, genuine, and quite enjoyable. I fell in love with this couple, the town of Still Harbor, and the family Kate has created by choice. Victoria James has written a utterly delightful and surprising book filled with romance that made me swoon and a small-town that made me want to pack my bags and move there immediately. It was a pleasure to dive into Jame's world of Still Harbor and I honestly cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series.

I have read mostly good reviews about Ms. James’s Red River series and I was really excited about FALLING FOR THE P.I. Kate Abbott is on a night out with her sisters, under protest and the plan is to find her a man for the night. Luckily for Matt Lane, he is the pick of the night. Matt and Kate get along very well until she realizes that he’s an ex-cop and she shuts down on him. Kate’s past experiences with law enforcement left her very afraid and distrustful of police officers and Matt can’t seem to convince her that he’s trustworthy. Kate and Matt’s initial meeting lived up to my expectations. In fact, I laughed so hard at that opening scene and I expected the story to be more of that. Unfortunately, my frustration with Kate affected my enjoyment of this story. I’m all for being independent and I can understand her reluctance to talk about her past. What I can’t understand is why she was still unwilling to speak up when the person responsible for her past hurts was right there and could potentially do damage to her. My issues with Kate aside, I enjoyed Matt, how patient and gentle he was with Kate and her daughter and how he was quick to come to their defense. The family she created with her ‘sisters’ and their daughters is very unique and intriguing enough that I am interested in what Ms. James has planned as a follow-up to FALLING FOR THE P.I. Victoria James can do no wrong. A wonderful start to a new series. Reviewed for Read Your Writes Book Reviews When it comes to storytelling, for me, Victoria James can do no wrong. Her characters are people you want to know. She combines romance with just enough past tragedy to make you feel for the main characters. She also gives you just enough of a glimpse into the secondary characters to beg for their stories to be told. Victoria is also in my opinion, one of the best authors I know who has the ability to put children into a romance book and truly make them a part of the story. I will admit to loving Victoria’s other books, so I was a little wary about starting a new series. I mean, my thought was there was no way she could keep giving me what I’ve come to expect. I was wrong. She can and she does. At its core, Falling for the P.I. deals with the difficult subject of domestic violence and shows the ramifications to the victims. Matt Lane is a man who is done with serious, committed relationships. But he can’t manage to stay away from Kate Abbott and her daughter, Janie. Being their friend and protector is at the top of his list. Kate is a true survivor. She has this amazing strength and determination. She has a dark past that shapes her and will forever be with her. But with Matt’s help, she’s able to see that not every man chooses to look the other way and thinks it’s okay to dismiss a child because they’re different and belittle and/or physically put his hands on a woman or his kids. Falling for the P.I. is the first book in the Still Harbor series, focusing on three foster sisters who reconnect in adulthood to create their own family, by adopting children of their own. Next up is the story of Alex, which guarantees to rock her world and that of her daughter and her sisters. **Received a copy of the book courtesy of Entangled Publishing for an honest and unbiased opinion.**

Actual Rating 3.5 out of 5 Stars! Originally posted on my blog: Tangled Up In Books I received a copy of this book, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating! Well, I definitely wasn't expecting this to be as heavy as it was. There's just so much of Falling for the P.I. that tugs at the heartstrings. As I read I felt my heart tumbling over and over, sometimes for the achingly sweet moments and others for the completely and utterly heart wrenching ones. This was a really great start to the Still Harbor series and already I'm wondering how on earth my heart is going to survive through Cara and Alex's stories when Kate's has already put me through the wringer! I love when a story has a really good mysterious character. It's so much fun for me trying to figure out their backstory and the reasons for whatever issues they may have before it gets revealed. Though parts of Kate's story were hinted at and easy to figure out the rest not so much. Her story ended up being more sad and tragic than I had imagined. I did have a bit of difficulty in the beginning, though. I was a bit overwhelmed with all the characters I had thrown at me. I mean, you had Kate, Cara and Alex who are basically sisters and they all live together. But you add to their little makeshift family Kate's adopted daughter Janie and the two girls that Cara and Alex adopted Cassy and Beth. My head was just a mess. And if I'm being honest, without going back to the very beginning of the book and double checking...I can't really remember, besides Janie obviously, which kid belongs to which sister. It just felt kind of chaotic and overwhelming to me at first since all 6 of them were living under the same roof. Regardless of all of that though they were all some very deep and complex characters with interesting stories. Both Kate and Matt had a similar traumatic childhood so it was more realistic to see her very slowly let down her walls for him. And I do mean slowly. It took a long time for her to build up any kind of trust in him and allow herself to feel safe in sharing what she'd been through. At times, not gonna lie, it could be frustrating how often Kate would push Matt away and not trust her instincts with him. I understood. Her reasons were valid. It still was frustrating. In the end, frustrations aside, I still found it hard to want to put this book down. The storyline was really good. It was just the right mix of tragedy, sweetness, humor and romance. And I'm really looking forward to continuing on with the Still Harbor series! Thanks to Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Falling for..was a delighful read, one a reader could enjoy on a lazy afternoon or weekend Teacher Kate Abbott has brought herself and her adopted daughter to Still Harbor for a fresh start, away from the demons of her past & she is going to be teaching high school in her new town. She is just planning to live a quiet life with her new adopted daughter but things do not go to plan. She meets sexy Matt Lane, who is a private investigator. Kate has never really had a relationship before and now she has one. He makes her feel cherished and treats her oh so good. For the first time in her life, she feels free and loved. She and Mat are happy and she is able to do things she never really wasn’t able to do in her previous life but when you least expect it, her demons come up to rear their ugly heads and when she finds out that Matt was a cop, her trust in him takes hit . Matt loves her and he is very protective. Those demons from the past come to take her back and Matt will do everything he can to keep his ladies safe. Will he be able to or will the demons win. I loved this story because it had a lovely woman who had been hurt so bad in the past with a sweet daughter and a ex cop turned PI who had been burned in the past by love who meets his future in one glance. They are perfect for each other. They will have to fight for each other and will have to stand tall if they will make it thru what’s coming. Will they make it, will they have an HEA-what I can say is, I loved this story and I hope that the other writes more stories in this series. Matt and Kate had a great story and there are more to be told. ***A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for my honest review**** My rating: 4.0 stars ****

If more first dates featured the world's best poutine, surely the world would be a better place? ;) I had so much fun reading this book! As always, Ms. James's sense of humor shines through in her writing. There were so many giggle-worthy scenes (and more than a few snort-worthy as well), that I couldn't possibly have kept track of them all. The ongoing joke of "Mr. Art Zibbits" was especially entertaining. (I could explain it here, but really it'll be funnier if you read it yourself straight from the source.) Once again Ms. James has created characters it's easy to fall for quickly. Matt is an all-around great guy; he's almost too perfect, except for his "no single mothers / no long-term relationship" rule. (Which he actually turns around on pretty quickly--but it's hard to find fault with it, given his aforementioned awesomeness and the fact that you just want him to be with Kate. So. Much.) Kate has been through a lot--she lost her entire family as a teen and was put into the foster system; before that she and her mother were victims of domestic violence--but she's turned her life around. She's adopted a beautiful little girl and is opening a home for women and children escaping domestic violence in her new home town. Trust isn't something that comes easy to her, however, and though she doesn't want anyone to fight her battles for her, she has a hard time dealing with people who are rude to or about Janie, her special needs daughter. Matt learned at an early age to stand up to bullies and defend those who cannot defend themselves; together the two of them will come to see that their differences will make them stronger together. Falling for the P.I. is a fairly short novel; but there's so much there! There's just something about starting a new series from an author you enjoy--so many infinite possibilities--it's kind of like starting a new school year, but without the anticipatory homework dread ;) Ms. James gives us a lot to look forward to in her newest series, Still Harbor--three sisters-of-the-heart (each of whom has adopted a little girl, and they're raising them all together) two of whom are decidedly single at the novel's end; solid supporting characters in Matt's mother, sister, and business partner; the thrill of a new fictional location to explore--this book has all that and more. A mystery with Kate's sister Alex and her daughter is suggested in the epilogue--hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out what it is! Rating: 4 stars / B+ I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

4 heartwarming stars I really enjoyed Falling for the P.I. This was a sweet, heartwarming and fun read. I loved both Kate and Matt, they were lovable and very relatable characters. Their story touched my heart, I loved seeing them get together and fall in love. And seeing Matt with Kate's little girl, oh boy did he make my heart swoon... He was such a sweetheart, loved him! By the end of the book I was left with all kinds of happy feels, highly recommend this book and I'm looking forward to the next installment of the Still Harbor series.

How I loved this book! Matt was a beautiful person all the way through. He was absolutely a perfect fit for Kate, from his strength down to his vulnerability. I adored his instant affection with Janie. Oh my word, the tears in my eyes from how he treated her. Beautiful! And Kate, bless her, was so vulnerably strong. The way she handled her life and bonded with sisters and their girls - just a heartwarming story all around. I loved this story from start to finish. This was a quick paced read which flowed easily and touched on a couple of hard subjects, but was not too dark. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher.

This story is so sweet. The characters are worthy and honest and not drama filled; or in other words, mature. I loved how the mystery and suspense built up and how you were given clues here and there but it wasn’t till the end was everything revealed. Tiny clues are much better than revealing too much too early or figuring everything out. The clues kept the suspense without killing me! I really wanted to know the story behind Kate as well as Matt. Matt had an open heart when it came to Kate, surprising him. He had already had a failed marriage and didn’t believe in happy ever afters or children in his life. So Matt told his story piece by piece to Kate. Kate, on the other hand, kept her story to herself. It drove me crazy. I wanted to shout at her to trust him not just for him, but for me as well cause I wanted to know what happened to her. But Matt knew she had trust issues and that trust had to do with police officers. He would wait for her to open up! That’s a good man right there!! He knows when not to push a woman! Hehe! Kate adopted a special needs child named Janie. She has Down’s syndrome. My light bulb on this didn’t go off until the end of the book. Nope, not gonna say any more on that! Kate adores Janie and has worked hard to give her everything she needs to thrive. Their love for each other was tender. Kate and her two friends turned sisters since connecting as teens in foster care all live together in a house with their adopted daughters as well. They all are hard workers and professionals. They care for each other and help each other like family does. I was hoping to get their stories next and it looks like that may happen! There was open door sex. Not normally seen in Bliss books. I did see from another blogger that the final print would be changed to reflect Bliss guidelines. So, if you like a little mystery and suspense, overcoming your fears, learning to trust, special needs kids, Detectives, becoming a family, nick names like Mr. Zibbits ( I guarantee you will like that one, I still chuckle over it), charity events, and a sweet love story than look no further. This is it!

Matthew Lane is an ex-cop who had been seriously injured whilst on duty.now he’s running his own PI business with his friend Liam. When he meets Kate Abbott in a bar, the attraction is immediate, unexpected and short because something - or someone- spooks her. He has no idea who she is, what her last name is or anything else about her but he wants to know more, so some serious PI work may be necessary! Two chance encounters save him the leg work but Kate is reticent, reluctant to open up and with good reasons. She lives in a house with her two friends and each of them has a daughter. Kate’s adopted daughter is adorable and so special! You’ll have to read it yourself to find out about Kate’s secret past, the serious threats to her future and to see if she dare share and learn to trust Matt. Abusive males during childhood have seriously impacted on the two main characters in this story. This is a great read and shows again how past encounters can seriously impact on future relationships, demonstrating that finding someone you really can trust and learning to do so is the key to future happiness. An emotive read packed with drama, secrets, angst and turmoil, well written with great characters and a page turner plot. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley too, for letting me read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kate Abbott moved to Still Harbor with her two best friends to start a new life for her and her daughter Janie. Taking care of Janie and being with her best friends is all Kate cared about and needed in life. The last thing she needed in her life was more complications, especially the complication that came with men and a relationship. Matt Lane had everything he thought he needed in life. He and his best friend had a successful business and he had his mother and sister to care for and look after. While he enjoyed the company of a good-looking woman occasionally he wasn't looking for anything serious. Both Matt and Kate had their lives headed in the right direction, or so they thought, until the one night Kate's white knight came riding in to save her. Falling for the P.I. was such a beautiful story. Matt and Kate's characters were very likeable and I couldn't help but to fall in love with them both. This story will open your heart and leave you with a smile on your face. I highly recommend this book, I cannot express how just much I loved this book. I received an eARC copy of this book from the publisher and Tasty Book Tours via NetGalley for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

Kate Abbott is happy! She's a teacher and mother who is living her life her way. Having a man in her life isn't a top priority. Then she meets the very sexy Matt Lane. Only one problem. He's a cop, or at least he was. If life has taught Kate anything it's that you can't trust cops. Matt is immediately attracted to Kate and her special needs daughter is so very sweet. He knows though that her fear of cops may be too much to overcome! I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more in this series. I do think this is more of a "Red Hot Bliss" title, so take that into consideration but the overall story is wonderful. This is one I highly recommend.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was the way Matt stood up for Kate and Janie. That right there won me over in a heartbeat. Kate had a hard childhood filled with loss and betrayal, but with the love of her little girl she's slowly filling the pieces of her heart. She never counted meeting a man like Matt. Matt had a rough patch in his childhood too and Kate's cause is near and dear to his heart. He's a man who proudly stands up for those he cares about without a second thought. Kate decides to give Matt a chance something she's never done for a man before, but the one man who ruined her family all those years ago rears his ugly head. Can Matt protect Kate and her family before history repeats itself. I'm very intrigued with what info Matt has at the end. Can't wait for more from this series.

Falling for the P.I. was a delightful surprise. I was expecting a fluffy small town romance and what I got was a small town romance with meat. This is a terrific story with wonderful characters we can care about. Matt is a former cop-turned-private investigator who has been burnt by love but hasn’t quite gotten the hang of not caring, which is a great thing for Kate Abbott who has never felt safe enough to love. This book is filled with small surprises and sweet moments. I heartily recommend this feel good romance and am truly looking forward to the next book.
