Sometimes bad decisions... are made for the right reasons.

I lost everything with the death of my bandmate--my privacy, my reputation, my career, and the love of my life.

I'm nothing but the living ghost of Madelaine Dobransky. Still, I've managed to make a new life for myself and build a successful business from the ashes. And even though my world is filled with guilt, secrets, and suspicion... it lies buried beneath the surface.

All I wanted was a tattoo. I didn't know that it would bring him--the one who watches--back into my life. Nor did I expect the tempting tattoo artist, Dexter McClellan, to lay claim on a place in my world. Dex wants to know me, to know the truth.

But I can't let that happen. Because the truth is buried for a reason.

The truth will destroy me.

From the author:
This book is the first part of a duet, so expect and embrace the cliffhanger. I promise this story is worth the two-part journey. And, part two, Pivot Line, will release on March 7th, 2018. You won't have to wait long for the conclusion.

It's complex, suspenseful, breathtaking, gritty, and realistic. An emotional rollercoaster ride that at first glance, fools you. Just when you start to think it's a shallow surface read, told in a casual modern voice, you begin to catch the psychological nuance sliding in under the radar. It draws you in and won't let go. You haven't read a book like this before.

Combining fantasy story structure with romantic tropes, this real-world tale crosses many genre lines--new adult, adult, mystery, suspense, action, erotic romance, slow burn romance, and even comedy. Filled with such varied characters: from MMA fighters, military special-ops, rock stars, and stalkers to police, lawyers, strippers, and porn stars.

Curious about how it all works? You'll have to read to find out.

About the Author

Rebel Farris is a country girl who’s spent far too much time in an urban setting. A gentle, pure soul, who can’t speak a word without dropping f-bombs or dripping sarcasm everywhere. She was born and raised in Texas, living a mostly nomadic life before settling down in Austin. When she's not busy being a workaholic, writing the next dark story that fills her twisted mind, she can be found hanging with her three minions and two pups, Thugg Dog and King Pin.

I love the twists and turns in this book! I was so hooked! Emotional and twisty for sure. Some people don't like flashbacks because they can get confusing....but let me tell you, these are necessary. Nothing overdone here. Some BDSM themes along with suspense. Maddie is such a great, relatable character and you'll be wanting more. Luckily book 2 in the duet is already out!

When I got a glimpse from this blurb I knew that I wanted it. I'm always eager to read new books and if they are from new authors that tends to spike my curiosity. I know that this can be scary because I don't know if I will like their writting but I can't resist. Rebel Farris is a new author to me and let's just say that I really enjoyed her writing, because it's full of darkness, suspense, desire, rawness and so much more. Let's just say that these are the ingredients for and explosive mixture. False start is the first book from the Falling Small duet and tells Maddie's story. Maddie lost part of her soul the day her bandmate died. Not only did she lost a friend but also her privacy, her career as well as her reputation. But she decided that she should keep living so she started her business from the ashes, like a Phoenix would do. But how can she live when her ghosts keep haunting her? What a better way to start healing than doing a tattoo? She couldn't even imagine the turn her life was about to get. Dayum... I wasn't expecting this at all! I mean I knew it would be a dark story but Dayum it was so much more. The plot is stellar, super engaging surrounded by darkness and desire. Jeez... One minute I was scared, then I was confused, then I was happy, then I was hotter that a summer day. Jesus... What a book. The way the story progressed left me wanting to keep reading and reading... Non stop, and I would scream if someone had the audacity to interrupt me. True fact. Lol I can't say more about this book without spoiling, and I really hate spoilers so I think it's for the best if I shut my mouth. Lol Oh my lord Rebel... What have you done? I'm hooked like a kid loves candy. I'm so happy that I can start book two right now. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

False Start was a great 5 star read. We jump from present to past as we see into Maddie’s life ranging from 15 years old to 27 years old. This is a great story of finding love, loving life and surrounding yourself with a great family. In the beginning/present time Maddie decides she wants a tattoo and this is where she meets Dex. Something about his eyes pulled her right in and she had no idea what meeting him would do for her life. I can’t say anything else because I want you to read this all for yourself. There are several twist and turns and also be prepared for a very emotional rollercoaster of a ride. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. The ending leaves us with a heck of a cliff hanger that is killing me, I need Pivot Line now. This is my first read from Rebel Farris and I absolutely loved it. I was pulled right in and I couldn't stop until I was done, Rebel’s writing really connects you with the characters and you feel like your right there with them. She has done a great job with her debut book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. The author has followed her short introductory story of Maddie's parents with this unbelievable story full of teenage angst, heartbreak, drama, love, betrayal and friendship. We are introduced to Maddie who deals with more than anyone person should ever have to deal with beginning at a very young age. I loved the drama and I cried for her and Jared. Why? She was so lucky and yet unlucky at the same time. I cannot wait for the next book.

It was really thrilling to go through the pages and get to know Maddie! She is a troubled person you can relate to and laugh and suffer together with her. The style and the now/then point of retelling are incredible and you are for the whole ride - there is no way you can leave the book aside! I loved all the turns and the twists and was sad and angry and happy together with Maddie in all the important moments in her life! A read I totally enjoyed! The death hit them hard. They made a new career but decided a tattoo would help so they go to a shop where he had been watching them for a while. Why has he been watching them? Will he be able to help? See what will happen I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
