Everything will be alright.
Breathe, let go, and trust that everything always unfolds perfectly and just as you need it to. Focus on the present moment and live in the now. Know that everything will be alright.
The dark is greedy, but you are bright. During meditations (or just when times are tough) flutter the eyelids closed. Elongate your neck and tilt your chin ever so slightly toward the sky. Find the sun in the dark. Everything will be alright.
Tough times are sticky and pervasive. Once you have peace in your heart, you can seek refuge there. The act of lifting your chin opens your heart and allows in more light.
The Buddha thought that desire was the root of all suffering. By that logic, wouldn't gratitude then be the root of all happiness and peace? Once we find contentment and joy in the smallest of things, the world transforms into a garden of possibility. Be thankful and share your gratitude with those around you. Gratitude is a gift that keeps giving. Count your blessings and you'll find that they are numerous. Express gratitude and live by it, because gratitude brings peace and happiness and turns what you have into enough. Know that you will have more of what you are grateful for.
On your birthday, make a list of people, experiences, feelings, relationships, and anything else you can think of that you are thankful for — as many as the age you're turning. Making this an annual, simple exercise will ensure that not a year goes by when you don't sit down and appreciate all the things in life that bring you joy. If compiling a year's worth of thanks into one day seems daunting, start small by gratitude journaling from day to day or even week to week.
When you look at each passing year with an eye for gratitude, you'll get better and better at it until the number of things you're thankful for greatly outnumbers the years that you've been on this beautiful earth.
MIND OVER MATTER.
The brain is a beautiful thing. It's deeply complex and intricate with so many neural pathways that it's hard to know exactly which electrical impulses are being fired from where. Remember that you are the master of your mind. Know that you can and will accomplish all that you set out to do if you just believe that you can do it.
Changing your life comes from changing your thoughts. Set the pace for your new brain space. While you're falling asleep each night, imagine what the best possible version of yourself will do tomorrow. Send affirmations into your dreams filled with all of the things that you are capable of and deserve. Reaffirm your worth in the mirror the following morning to set your mood for the day. You are strong. You are capable. Your life will be filled with all of the joy, delight, and fulfilment that you wish for yourself.
Eventually you'll start believing that all the wonderful things about you are real. Confidence is the key to success, and you just need to unlock it.
You live and learn. You grow and move on. Focus on the choices you make today. Love deeply and forgive quickly. Live on purpose, be yourself, and be kind. Take chances, make mistakes, and learn from them. Or make mistakes to be really certain that that a particular path is not meant for you. No great growth has ever come from quietly working in the secure margins. Follow your dreams. Say, "Yes!" and not "Yeah, but ..." Let yourself wildly color outside the lines. Your life is a beautiful masterpiece. It is not meant to be quelled.
Remove the word "mistake" from your vocabulary. You no longer mess up; you only open yourself up to opportunities for learning and growth. You only participate in "happy accidents." Welcome the wrong because from the foulest compost comes the most beautiful flowers.
The life you lead will not be without a touch of suffering, but if you know in your heart of hearts that the suffering was worth the "yes!" you committed to, you will no longer experience the "what ifs?" that accompany an unfulfilled life.
All I need is within me.
* * *
You are a seed. A well. A house. You are everything you are searching for. You have all you need to create what you want, to do what you want, and to be the best version of yourself.
Remember that whatever the circumstances are, all you need to get through is inside of you. Have courage, face your fears, persevere. There is nothing you cannot do if you only believe and act upon it. You're already complete, but don't be afraid to push the boundaries of your existence.
When you stop seeking fulfillment and meaning from outside of yourself, you'll be able to reach new magnificent heights. When you know that you have all it takes to make it happen, you will be more confident in your decisions and actions. With less time spent searching for what you need, you'll have the mental capacity to find new acts that bring more delight into your life.
Everything happens for a reason.
* * *
The purpose may be hidden, but deep in your heart you know this is the path you should be on right now. Every single step is carrying you along your journey with lessons to learn, to grow, and to become who you are meant to be.
Pick a book you haven't read. Flip to a page in the middle and read a paragraph. Does it make sense? Perhaps, but it is likely out of context. Each experience (beautiful or otherwise) is a single smudge on the impressionist painting that is your life. You won't be able to see the final outcome until it's done.
Peace can be found when you stop trying to control every aspect of your life. If you believe, truly believe, that everything happens for a reason, being fluid and adaptable will become second nature.
LIVE MORE, WORRY LESS.
Why worry? When you worry about something, you suffer it twice. Live more mindfully, fearlessly, and with an open heart. Be present in this moment. Practice gratitude and trust the journey that it leads you on. Let your "what ifs" be positive rather than the worst possible outcome. Enjoy the experience and only problem-solve when there's an actual problem.
An effective meditation for calming persistent fretting is to inhale the word "let" and exhale the word "go." Sit with this meditation. Nurse it for a while if you're prone to worry. It'll ease the current crop of concerns and calm new ones before they take root.
Using this meditation over time, you'll feel your shoulders relax down your back. Rolling back your shoulders opens your heart, which will in turn lead you toward the future, instead of staying trapped and guarded behind the wall of your rib cage.
Peace. Love. Happiness.
Remember that the real source of peace, love, and happiness is within you. Bring peace, give love, give back, and you will experience more peace, love, and happiness in your life.
Peace in your life comes from peace of mind. Meditate on the things that bring a sense of calm and meaning to your life. Love is done best when you embrace an unconditional love for yourself. Find little ways to love yourself every day, so as not to lose the pieces of you that you cherish most. Happiness can be found in the most mundane places. Practice self-care, make more jokes, drink water, start each day with a made bed or a clean sink, go out, stay in, and do whatever little things make you smile, however bizarre, quirky, or normal they may seem.
Creating a sense of calm and joy from within means that you won't have to rely on any outside influences to make each day a great one. When you tap that well of peace, love, and happiness at the core of yourself, you can bring it to the people, places, and work around you that you treasure.
SMILE, BREATHE AND GO SLOWLY
These simple words are the foundation of a happy, calm, and fulfilled existence. Remember to focus on one thing at a time and give each and every moment your all. Stay calm, look on the bright side, and keep going. Because it's all about the journey, not the destination. Move at your own pace and don't compare your journey to that of others.
Leave an hour before you're expected somewhere and explore the area. Meditation occurs in quiet places where your brain has space to relax. Arrive in a space as your best self and enjoy this new experience with a fresh set of eyes.
Arriving early might seem counterintuitive to "going slow," but when you no longer have the stress of arriving at your next engagement on time, you'll find it easier to explore and find the beauty in the world around you.
Be the change.
* * *
Let these words be a reminder that you have the power to transform not only your own experience, but also that of those around you. Throw yourself into it. Positive change is contagious and will catch sparks in the right environments.
Always remember to be the change that you wish to see in the world and in your life. When a butterfly enters its chrysalis, it does not simply morph into a butterfly but it becomes liquid, shedding the vestiges of its former life entirely so that it can transform into its true body. Be this change; be something so entire and complete that you can't remember how gravity confined you to the ground for so long.
Change is the only constant. Learn to embrace change and you'll be brave enough to take a step to make a change when necessary.
* * *
Everything worthwhile takes time to reach fruition. Practice patience with others, and with yourself. Be kind with your time. Meet others where they are and not where you think they should be. Have realistic expectations of their capabilities and your own, and do not rush the process. There is nothing that patience, time, and empathy can't resolve.
Find a comfortable seat and settle in for a long meditation. As time passes, begin to notice if parts of your stance are uncomfortable. Do not adjust. As your foot falls asleep or your elbow twitches, sit in your discomfort and take deep breaths until the feeling passes.
When you realize that discomfort is fleeting, you will be more comfortable in difficult situations that will help you grow as a person. Embrace the moment of discomfort and know that it will not last forever.
Let it go.
There it is. You can feel it. You know exactly what it is you're supposed to let go. Perhaps it is a slender thread or even a whole closet full of grievances that will never reach a resolution. Cut the strand, release the tension, and let it go — either because they are too small to effectively grasp and untangle or too big to ever tackle. Do not nurse these petty grievances with gravitas. Holding on to them will only bring you down. Let it go, and you'll find that you're the one who is free.
During your meditation, clench your hands into tight fists on the inhale. Clench your muscles. Shrug your shoulders toward your ears. Scrunch your face into pin-point features. Then on the exhale, relax it all. Roll your shoulders down your back. Open your chest. Release the tongue from the roof of your mouth. Unfurl your fingers and let whatever you're hung up on fall to the floor.
Your brain will follow your physical body if you let it. When you tell your body to relax, it'll send cues to your brain to release the tension as well.
BE STILL AND KNOW.
Quiet truths are hard to discover in loud spaces and with thoughts. Be still and patient with yourself and with everything that life may bring, because being still enables you to know. Know that there is a higher power that is always there for you. I am still, therefore I know that all is well with my soul.
Take time to be still, look within, and listen. Allow things to happen in their own time. Stillness is the path to serenity. Be still, breathe, let go, and trust.
Belief in brighter times is what guides us through the dark.
YOU GOT THIS.
Believe in yourself. Know that you are strong enough to get through anything. You are the only you to ever exist and you're doing a stellar job. Remember that challenges are part of the story. Keep going and never give up. You got this!
Practice good posture. Stack the vertebrae of your spine on top of one another and hold your head high as if a string is pulling it towards the sun. Take a power pose, Wonder Woman-style, with your hands on your hips and your feet firmly planted hip distance apart. Let the channels of energy flow through you and don't dump into your joints.
When you let the channels of energy flow through you, you'll find that confidence will follow. Believe that you are strong, and you'll know that you can tackle whatever life throws at you.
Be here, now.
Happiness and calm can be found when you're present in this moment.
Ground yourself in the concrete truth of your body. Scan all the synapses in your body and explore the feeling. Start at the crown of your head, move down to your eyelids, cheeks, nose, earlobes, throat, collar bones, shoulders, elbows, knuckles, fingertips. Trace the line of feelings down each rib. How do your hips sit? Are they open or closed? Is there a tingling in your knees? Where does the heat of your limbs overlap? Scan from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, then go back up again to fully ground yourself into your body once more.
In those moments when your mind wants to be in one place but your heart needs to be in another, bring yourself back to the present moment where you'll find true peace and happiness.CHAPTER 2
REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE
Remember that the sky is blue above the clouds. Remember that the seeds you sow in the fall will break through the frosty ground in the spring. Remember that you are not your struggles or your circumstances. Remember that everything you seek is already within you. You are love, you are light, you are peace, you are joy. You're more than a single interaction or decision. You are a fully-realized person. You are bigger than your body, bigger than your thoughts, your past, and your future. Remember who you are.
Meditation is the sometimes tedious process of bringing a playful and wandering mind back to a place of stillness. This function of guiding your thoughts to a quiet place will strengthen your mind and ability to think.
Mantra Benefit: A strong mind is a key component to carving out a spot for yourself. By doing so, you will encourage a more self-aware life.
Love is the only universal truth. Love is simple. Tt needs no explanation. Love is unconditional, complete, and free. Love is kindness. Love is compassion. Love is strength that can move mountains. Let this be a reminder that you are loved wholly, truly, infinitely.
Unblinking, effervescent, uplifting, and strong, love wants to be shared. Love is infinite and it yearns to be let out. Vent your love to all that lives around you.
A racing heart. An illuminated brain. Dopamine. Serotonin. Who doesn't love love? Who can truly be whom they're meant to be without love? It is water in the soil, air in our lungs, songs in our ears. Love is meant to be everywhere.
Family is forever.
Family is a circle of strength, love, and support. Whether it's the family you've chosen or the family you've been given, family is love and memories and your anchor for strength. Family is forever, always, no matter what.
Talk to your family. Hear their voices. Connect to your past and let it be your present. Tell them often and loudly that you love them.
By strengthening these bonds, you're strengthening yourself. By loving the people who raised you, you're finding love in yourself.
Be the light.
* * *
Bright eyes. Flashing grins. Sparkling personalities. Light wants to burst free from us and out into the world if we choose to nurture it. Tiny fires burn in all our hearts, and when we choose to let ourselves glow, we grow.
Shine the light that is within you. Be kind, choose joy, give love. Be the light in your own life, and in the life of others.
Your light will seek out the light in the world around you.
* * *
These are the most powerful two words, because what you put after them shapes your reality. I am strong, I am brave, I am beautiful, I am hopeful, I am smart, I am hilarious, I am not alone, I am grateful, I am happy, I am enough, I am love, I am worthy. I am.
Write it down and say it out loud. You are who you say you are. "I am who I say I am." By saying and writing down your affirmations, you train your mind to believe them.
Your words and affirmations become your reality. Only say things that you want to be realized in your life.
In every moment of your life, you have the choice to come from love or fear. Choose love over fear, trust in the flow of life, and let love be your guide.(Continues…)
