About the Author

Upon graduating from High School on Long Island, NY in August of '74, Maria Rotondo went to Florida to attend college. She attended Central Florida Community College and then University of Florida. Maria married Richard Ferris in December '76 to whom she remains married and graduated in December of ’78 with a major in Health Education and a minor in Biology. Maria received several leadership awards while in college. During the summer of ’79 Maria and Rick went to Rochester, NY where Rick attended graduate school and Maria was a science teacher at a parochial school. In '81 Maria went to Lawrenceville, NJ where she resides currently. Initially, Maria was a science teacher at a parochial school. During that time she began graduate school. In '85 she decided to change careers and enter broadcasting. Maria continued graduate classes at Rider University in Counseling Services and enrolled at Mercer County Community College in ’86 to study television production. Maria wanted a talk show that dealt with mental health and family issues. Maria created a talk show for radio called "Common Concerns." This show aired on WWFM at MCCC. She produced and hosted this show from ‘86-’88. In 1988 Maria graduated with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Services from Rider University and an A.A.S. Degree from MCCC in Television Production. In 1988 Maria expanded this radio show for cable television. She produced and hosted 174 weekly episodes of "Common Concerns, A Show Known By the Company it Keeps." This public affairs programs aired statewide in New Jersey on the Cable Television Network of New Jersey (CTN-NJ) until 9/98. "Common Concerns" received 5 CAPE Awards (Cable Award in Programming Excellence) from CTN-NJ. In the 1997 Maria represented Mercer County in the Mrs. New Jersey America Pageant. Since 1998, Maria embarked on more artistic endeavors such as crafting and writing. Her articles have appeared in local newspapers and she’s participated in several craft shows. Recently, Maria emerged as an author and publisher. She’s written two unpublished books with "Finding My Life Through Poems, Proverbs and Dreams second edition" her first published book under Maria Ferris Productions, LLC. Over the past 3 decades, Maria belonged to several professional organizations, serving on committees and holding office. A love of music has been at the forefront throughout her life, playing instruments since elementary school.
