About the Author AL Lopez was born in Antonito, Colorado and learned to fly during his last year in high school while being absent from school. Principal, George Schilthuis, summoned AL to his office to expel him. Upon learning what AL was doing during his absence Mr. Schilthuis, chose to give AL permission to miss school three afternoons a week to work at the airport and fly.
