Overview

NAACP nominee and bestselling author Beverly Jenkins returns to Henry Adams, Kansas—an unforgettable place that anyone would want to call home—with a story of family, friends, and the powerful forces from our past that can irrevocably shape our future.

Mayor Trent July and his wife Lily are enjoying life as newlyweds and embracing the challenges and joys that come with being foster parents to two wonderful boys. But being a foster father has inevitably forced him to think about his own birth mother. Raised by his grandmother Tamar—and in many ways the good people of Henry Adams—Trent was blessed with a childhood full of love.

But now he can’t help wondering what happened to the scared teenage girl who handed him over to Tamar. And questions that he’s never voiced are now begging to be answered: Who was she? Is she still alive? Why didn’t she want him?

Trent has always believed no good comes from dwelling on the past, especially when you have a loving family, a strong community, and folks who depend on him. But when the past comes to Henry Adams and Trent has no choice but to face it—and the woman who left him behind. The truth will shake his very being and everything he thought he knew about life, love, and the bonds that hold families together…yet can also tear them apart.

I fell in love with this series from the first book. This book is fantastic. I love the development of the new residents of Henry Adams and the resolution of some of the conflicts. Bobby and Kiki showed their families that they could have a good life with some help and encouragement from the citizens of Henry Adams. Can't wait for the next installment.

This book was certainly an enjoyable. I love the folks who live in Henry Adams. The kids are growing up, the new additon to the town which brought babies to love and spoil was outstanding. The appearance of Trent' s mother, stepfather, and half sister was handled nicely. Seabiscuit seen to get what was coming to her. Bernadine and Mal got some time together and Bernadine's sister seems to have grown up. I have read all of the books by this author and have met her when she spoke at a book club luncheon and book signing in my area. Keep up the good work. A job well done.

This latest book in the Blessings series by Beverly Jenkins is the one I didn’t know I needed and the one that I maybe enjoyed the most. So much of these books focus on the newer residents of Henry Adams, Kansas and all the changes that are happening there, that I forget that there are still rich backstories to be told about some of the characters. Trent July is a descendant of one of the founding families of Henry Adams and he and his high school sweetheart are finally married and raising the two boys that they’ve adopted. Raised by his grandmother Tamar, the town’s matriarch, Trent has always wondered about the birth mother that he never knew, but being surrounded by the love of such a close-knit community helped him not to dwell on it. Now new information about his mother comes forth and shakes up Trent as well as the town. As always with this series, the town itself is a character itself. Welcoming newcomers and dealing with the envy of surrounding communities continue to test the strength and resilience of Henry Adams and its inhabitants. This is one of those series that you hope will go on forever and ever, and I can’t wait to read the next one.

What a story of celebration of life, love and family! I was totally submerged in the story, and couldn't get enough of this small town and the lively characters living there. Trent and Lily seems to have the perfect family. Yes, there are ups and downs as in any family unit, but they dealt with all that life gives with lots of love, acceptance, and support for each other. And so behaves the whole town, that seems to be founded on love, and family values. A town where everyone is taken care of, protected, and accepted as they are. They know all about each others business, and are not shy to step in, and meddle when they think it is necessary. There's not a one secret in town, they know everything there is to know about each other. They celebrate and embrace the different cultures they represent, and are not afraid to ask questions for better understanding. They seem to have specialized adopting, foster care children, and giving them a loving, stable homes. The heartbreak and tears that came from some of the meetings with the biological parents was touching. The way the whole town was operated was admirable. Their women are strong, and celebrated, their men are supportive, proud of them, and loving. The bonds of brotherhood in the family are tender and somehow fragile. The growing pains of the children familiar and wistful. Don't get me wrong, there's drama and trouble in this little town in Kansas as well. And when the high school rivals meet after 45 years, the drama turns out into a bit of a circus, that made me shake my head and laugh. This story is written with love, respect, and warmth, celebrating life and all that is good in it. It encourages us to be more and give more to others around us. It has heartbreak and tears, but also healing, and smiles. Amazing tale, all around ~ Five Spoons

I absolutely love Ms. Jenkins' ability to bring the reader in the midst of the story. I find it hard to put these books down until completion. I then immediately order the next in the series. Great reading!

This is the first book I’ve read in this series but I didn’t feel as if I was missing anything. The story has a lot going on but it was easy to keep up. The author’s writing style puts you in the story and you’ll fall in love with the town and it’s people. Everybody knows everybody’s business and they help each other like family does. They are loving and protective. There are more ups than downs in this book, but you will still have a lot of emotions while reading it. This is a very good book. I wish I’d been reading the series from book one because it’s a really good, heartwarming story, but it can be read alone.
