This one seemed unfinished, like a first draft. A family goes back to an age of simpler living. Things get weird but the structure is off putting and the plot drags. I wish it had been told differently and had more character development.

Atmospheric Exploration of Nature and Feminism This novel is so short I don't really want to provide much in terms of synopsis because I think it's best to go in a bit blind. Overall, I loved this novel. The Northern England setting against the moors and mires lends itself to this dark and atmospheric novel about a teenage girl named Sylvie. The author's focus on the natural environment, and the main character's mastery of it, show how capable she is despite the isolation of her family life. Sarah Moss makes poignant yet subtle observations about ambition, cultural stereotypes, and feminism in this work and the prose is beautiful. Even the way the author chooses to break up dialogue is fascinating. I can't think of a single thing wrong with this novel. It pulls you in and you feel yourself there, all the while hoping for the best things for our protagonist. Thank you Netgalley and FSG for my free review copy. All opinions are my own.
