Meet the Author

Kristine Cayne is fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology—twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of-control desires. Add in high-stakes scenarios and real-world villains, and you have a story worth writing, and reading.

The heroes and heroines of her Deadly Vices series, beginning with Deadly Obsession, are pitted against each other by their radically opposing life experiences. By overcoming their differences and finding common ground, they triumph over their enemies and find true happiness in each other’s arms.

Today she lives in the Pacific Northwest, thriving on the mix of cultures, languages, religions and ideologies. When she’s not writing, she’s people-watching, imagining entire life stories, and inventing all sorts of danger for the unsuspecting heroes and heroines who cross her path.

Fast-paced short story--complete with HEA. When short stories work...they're fantastic! There was so very much to admire and enjoy about GUNS 'N' TULIPS by Kristine Cayne. The action scenes were so well written, the emotional reactions solid, the inside view of gangsters and bank employees captivating. Ms. Cayne did an outstanding job including just enough of the characters' pasts to make this short read make sense (and make me as a reader CARE). The characters were 3-dimensional. Pacing rocked. I thought I had time to read it before my husband came to bed and said "lights out," but couldn't get past halfway. What a disappointment! I had a hard time falling asleep, with this story playing through my mind...wondering what would happen next and how Connor/Conman would get Lily out of there alive. Both Lily and Connor (whose HEA was desperately interrupted when "he agreed to go undercover with the mob and infiltrate the ruthless Bank Bandits" [blurb provided by author]) were likeable, sympathetic characters, and I was so happy to see how easily they reconciled (Lily's a smart woman). The last scene zipped past really quickly. Lots of resolution happened in the space of about 4 paragraphs (per blurb, "his badge, his friends, and his fiancee). I would've loved to have seen more of an emotional response from Connor, after all (per blurb)..."Connor's chance to get his old life back"....and let Connor have any response at all to the rest of his team (the police) acknowledging he'd been undercover. The good guys have this HUGE revelation (that Connor was undercover)...and they act, true, but this epiphany fell flat. Could be I'm the only reader who felt this way; I imagine many, many will find this short perfect as is. ~Kristin

Guns N Tulips has undercover cop Connor Kavanagh becoming part of the group called the Bank Bandits. His task is to help bring the group down so they can face charges. The Bandits have picked a place to rob but at the last minute the location is changed. To make it more exciting, Connor sees that, Lily, his ex-fiancee works at this knew bank to be robbed. When Lily sees Connor at the robbery she believes him to be one of the robbers since she doesn't know he is working undercover or why he left her in the first place.  Cayne does a wonderful job on character development. I felt like I really knew the characters. I found myself wanting to help the main characters through their trials, wanting for them to succeed. The secondary characters were great and quite well developed.  It is intense and fast paced in a very natural and inviting manner. Cayne keeps you in suspense while hoping that Kavanagh succeeds in his mission.  The only down side to this novella is that it ended.  I wanted it to go on. I enjoyed this novella and loved the ending.

I really hope this is the beginning to a series. If not, it so should be. Maybe the Undercover Seduction series. Hmmmmm. Food for thought! This book had it all. I loved how the heroine almost gave the hero away. I was left wanting more, which is always a sign of a good book.

Undercover cop trying to take down murderous bank bandits in Chicago winds up being part of a robbery where his ex-fiance now works as a loan manager, one of the positions that the leader of the bandits always targets. Enough action for story flow, but minimal character development, just enough to set the scene or explain the action, but not enough details to really develop background, relationships, or a realistic feel for the Chicago setting.

Guns 'N' Tulips by Kristine Cayne I love reading a good cop story and I enjoy short quick books, I can read in the car waiting to pick up the kids from school.. Guns ‘N’ Tulips filled that need perfectly! Officer Connor Kavanagh goes undercover to stop the ruthless Bank Bandits, but to do so meant having to give up everything, including the women he loved, Lilly. What he never except was to find Lilly working in the bank that the Bank Bandits were robbing. Was Connor undercover work going to cost him Lilly’s life? Being that this book is so short, I don’t want to give away any more details, but I have to say that I absolutely enjoy reading it! This is the 3rd book I’ve read from Author Kristine Cayne and I haven’t been disappointed yet!!
