Overview

Hail Mary by Nicola Rendell

At a boxing gym in Chicago, Mary Monahan accidentally knocks out the most handsome man she's ever met. After she wakes him up with a few slaps and some smelling salts, the very first thing he does is ask her out for ribs and beer. His name is Jimmy. He looks like a Gillette model. And he's just too hunky to resist.

Jimmy "The Falcon" Falconi is mystified that Mary has absolutely no idea who he is. Mystified and refreshed. He is, after all, not your everyday NFL quarterback. He shops at Costco, has a soft spot for Pinterest, and is in the midst of an epic losing streak.

Jimmy falls for Mary fast and hard, the way he does everything-balls out and like it's fourth and long. And he realizes he's finally met his match. That stamina he's so proud of? Doesn't stand a chance against her Kegels.

But what they don't know is she's also his new physical therapist, recently hired by the Bears to work on his rotator cuff...and groin injury. If she can't help him, he'll be traded faster than they can say "offensive penetration."

In spite of the thousands of internet memes featuring Jimmy's face with captions like: "HEY GIRL, WANT TO TOUCH MY BALLS?" Mary finds herself falling for him and his unrelenting desire to make her his.

Until a toddler shows up at Jimmy's door.

And throws their lives into total chaos.

Overcoming. This is the first word when I think of Hail Mary by Nicola Rendell. The story of James / Jimmy "The Falcon" Falconi and Mary Monahan is thought-provoking, engaging and enthralling. He, who at first seems to be no more than a playboy, has in fact many nuances. From passion to tenderness, this quarterback will shake your heart. Mary personifies the real woman: who is afraid to give up her heart, who is insecure with the many ex-girlfriends she does not even know personally, who thinks she is too common to attract the eligible bachelor that is gradually revealed in the delightful pages of this book. Both have many fears that are discovered throughout the reading and only enrich the narrative even more. The author manages to deliver a well-constructed plot, with all kinds of love and emotion involved. His characters are real, with latent feelings and conflicts that are so familiar to us: self-preservation, fear of failure, and the need to love and be loved. The secondary characters are as good as the protagonists. Annie, Valdez, Curtis and Bridget make the difference in the plot. They bring humor and tenderness in the right measure to please the reader. Not to mention Frankie, always present and fun. Michael Falconi, the protagonist's twin brother, is the embodiment of all his fears. He unbalances the plot by representing the opposite of everything Jimmy is, while revealing what Jimmy could become if he did not practice self-control. The last few chapters are sweeping. The last pages are electrifying. And the end? Able to melt an icy heart. Hail Mary is undoubtedly the perfect example of a book in which tenderness and desire were perfectly dosed. Not too sweet, not too erotic. Just romantic and real in the right measure.

I really enjoyed "Hail Mary"! It's a fresh take on the sports romance trope. The characters are great - well-rounded and feel real, with no stereotypical arrogant jock behaviors. Yes, Jimmy is all alpha. But he shops at Costco, has his eye on the future with long-term investments, and is no longer only looking for one-nighters. And his heart is wide open from the beginning due to his adorable niece. And talk about your strong female leads! Mary is one tough cookie when she needs to be. She knows what she wants and what she's willing to accept - or not, as the case may be. The storyline is realistic and consistent. The dialogue is witty and flows naturally. And the steamy scenes are hot, hot, hot! I highly recommend this book to you!

I loved that Jimmy was so caring and that he was into Pinterest. I also really liked that he was ready to settle down and when he saw Mary, he knew that she was it for him. I loved that Mary was a boxer and could knock out anyone she came up against. Although, I would have been happy if she got to knock out someone else, like Michael, that would have been sweet.

Though it seemed like a whirlwind romance at times it didn't . I guess when you know you know ? Jimmy was a very intense man and I was swooning over him . I could feel his emotions . The story was well written and kept me enthralled . I hated for it to end . READ THIS BOOK !

Hail Mary is a stand-alone sports romance by Nicola Rendell. This book has been out for awhile now and I don’t know what took me so long to finally read it. First of all, I loved the cover. But even more than that, I loved the characters. Just wait until you meet Jimmy “The Falcon” Falconi and the woman that rocked his world, Mary Monahan. Jimmy is the quarterback for the Chicago Bears. But things haven’t been going very well lately. His game is off and he’s on an epic losing streak. If he can’t get it together and soon, he’ll be traded. It’s when Jimmy is recreationally sparring in a small local gym that he is literally knocked down by Mary Monahan. At first all he could see were her eyes. But they were eyes worth noticing. Mary surprised him in every way, especially when she laid him out flat on his back. His world will never be the same again. Mary is a physical therapist but boxes recreationally. After her boxing partner is revived, he asks her to dinner. She can’t resist that sexy smile and all those…abs. Mary was most definitely not looking for a relationship. But Jimmy has charisma like crazy and he doesn’t take no for an answer. The next morning, though, Mary is supposed to report to the stadium for a new patient and there he is, Jimmy Falconi. She doesn’t follow football and didn’t even realize who he was. Now what do they do? “I don’t sleep with patients.” “Sleep? Who said anything about sleep?” Things between these two progress really fast. Jimmy knows what he wants and that is Mary. Mary, though, is a little more apprehensive about jumping in so quickly. “I’ve only known you what…One day?” “Sure. But you know where you can go in a day? All the way to the moon.” Mary does more than just straight physical therapy. She believes in a sort of mind, body connection. To find the root of the issue, both physically and mentally. And it doesn’t take long for her to figure out what Jimmy’s block is. The question is, can she help him to overcome it? Jimmy’s life isn’t one you would think a wealthy football player leads. His life revolves around his three year old niece, and shopping at Costco. When life gets tough, and the stress level gets too high, what does Jimmy do to relax? He goes to Costco. Unfortunately, as Mary comes to the full realization of how famous Jimmy really is, she is introduced to every detail of his life on Google. And it’s not pretty. Is this the life she wants for herself? How can she ever measure up to some of the women he has been photographed with? “I used to wonder what it would feel like to be in zero gravity, what it would be like to be floating and weightless and a thousand miles above earth. Well. Now I know.” This story was just amazing. I loved it so much. Jimmy was head over heals for Mary but their road was not an easy one. I have so fallen in love with Nicola Rendell’s writing. It is sexy and sweet and her characters are always so wonderful and endearing. This book never let me go until the final page. And what an ending it was. I think I have pretty much decided that whatever this author writes, I will most definitely read it. “Where have you been all my life? “Waiting.”

Hail Mary By: Nicola Rendell 4.5 Star Review by Kristie K. This was my first Nicola Rendell novel, and I loved it! Sweet, sassy, and full of sexual chemistry, this was definitely a touchdown for me! (Sorry, couldn’t resist the football reference!) Mary Monahan is a feisty little woman, with a quick wit and a mean right hook…with a habit of knocking guys out in the ring. When she meets Jimmy Falconi at her gym, and challenges him in a sparring match, his good manners land him a right hook that knocks him on his…back. Out cold, Mary does her best to bring him around while admiring his chiseled features and gorgeous face. By far the most attractive man she has ever seen, he is also the only one to come to with a smile on his face. Jimmy is in awe of her beauty, and intrigued by her sass…even more so by her complete ignorance as to who he is. With an undeniable attraction, and a quickly growing fondness for one another, these two lovable characters work together to build a relationship. When unforeseen complications arise, will they be able to weather the storms…or will they fumble the ball? This was such a fun read. I loved the characters so much! Both were relatable and fun, with their own quirks, hangups, and fears. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and down right combustible! Mary was sassy, strong, and funny. The relationship she has with her best friend was the kind of friendship every girl wants, and the best friend is completely amazing too. Jimmy is a great big teddy bear with a heart of gold, and a sense of honor and family that had me in awe. I really loved him. His reaction to being knocked on his rear by a woman was pure gold. And the way he adored Mary, and his little niece? SWOON! The story itself was very well written, with a well thought out plot, and a strong storyline. The characters were all well developed, and each one made me feel something. A must read for anyone with a love of sports, romance, and a little hanky-panky! Kristie K.

This book in one sentence: My first sports romance and a great one to start with and hey girl, wanna touch my balls? I'm going to keep this short, and sweet and to the point! But let's be clear, I loved this book! I loved Professed. I LOVED Confessed. And now I can add this one to my Love list! This book took me on a ride that I didn't want to get off of! I wasn't entirely sure what it was about going into it, but the fact that it was written by Nicola was enough for me to want it! In this one, we meet Jimmy and Mary and we pretty much fall in love with them immediately! Jimmy is a NFL quarterback and the most lovable one at that! He's such a down to earth guy and a fire is ignited in him when he meets Mary! Mary just happens to be his new physical therapist. So ethically? This is terrible! Story wise? This is juicy and I'm here for it! Their story was unique and I was rooting for them from the jump! Similar to her previous books, She's written this book in such a witty and fun way, you can't help but be enthralled! I was either smiling or laughing at many parts and again Nicola's writing took me on a journey I won't be forgetting any time soon! This book was a caught my attention and kept it indefinitely! Best believe when I go to Costco I'll think of Jimmy!

5 Full Contact Stars! This funny, naughty, dirty *standalone* sports romance was also very sweet. There were times I was laughing out loud, then feeling how sweet Jimmy could be, only to switch it to 'O' so hot and sexy! Chicago Quarterback, Jimmy “The Falcon” Falconi meets sexy, Mary Monahan at the gym. He is 'knocked out' literally by her beauty and sass that he talks her into going out for dinner. He loves that she doesn't know who he is, and the sparks fly as they flirt and connect over ribs, beer and books. After a very passionate night together, Jimmy can't stop thinking about Mary and wants to see her again. He did, when he finds out the next day she is his new physical therapist. Will she be able to help him with not only his injuries but his losing streak as well? Will they be able to keep it professional or will therapy also become a 'full contact' sport? Jimmy has family issues that bring out many emotions for both of them that could either bring them closer or tear them apart. I loved how Ms Rendell slowly unraveled each character in a multilayered romance that allowed us to truly care for them both. I love both Jimmy and Mary, they were both strong, thoughtful and kind. They challenged each other and their passion is off the charts. This book has it all, it's funny, has witty banter, exhilarating events, heartbreak and heartwarming moments and lots of hot & dirty sensual passion. You definitely do not want to miss this.
