Hail No (Hail Raisers Series #1) by Lani Lynn Vale

Evander Lennox doesn't do anything he doesn't want to do. At least, that is, until he's sent to prison. The four years he's incarcerated, he's had no choice but to do the things that he's asked to do, when he's asked to do them. And now, if he doesn't, it will mean a one-way ticket straight back to hell.

Once he's free, it takes him twenty-four hours to get his old job back, his dog at home where he belongs, and an understanding that people aren't as forgiving as he once thought them to be. He's just about given up hope of ever integrating back into society when a woman slams into his heart, literally and figuratively.

***

Kennedy Swallow just wants to belong somewhere.

When she was younger, her parents divorced, and chose to separate her from her twin. Fast forward fifteen years, and she's finally getting to meet the family she's always wanted to be a part of. To make that happen, she uproots her life and moves to the tiny town of Hostel, Texas--giving her almost everything she's ever wanted.

Just when she thinks she's making progress in winning her family over, she finds out that her twin is ill, and the only reason her family tolerates her is due to the convenience of having a free caretaker whenever they might be in need of one.

After a few eye-opening experiences, she quickly realizes that she's being used. Vowing to herself that she'll make the best of the situation, she begins to steel her heart. What she doesn't prepare for is a man named Evander who sees that barrier as a challenge.

***

It takes Evander all of ten seconds while watching the woman on the floor, bleeding from her jaw, to realize that maybe life isn't as bad as it could be.

This woman with her thrill for life, a crazy obsession with chickens, and a desire to be wanted, changes everything he thinks he knows.

But it doesn't take long for him to realize that just by being around her, the people of the town have judged her guilty by association.

Her business suffers, and soon after, she realizes what it will mean to have him by her side--the loss of everything she's worked so hard for.

Kennedy knows that Evander is worth it. Evander, however, decides that he's not letting another person get hurt because he was stupid enough to care.

## Not good. How on Earth did this book get these good reviews? Jeez, this was bad. I got to page 172 (near the end, roughly 200 pages) and couldn't take it anymore. This heroine was plain bizarre. Her and her chickens and goats. And the hero wasn't all that either. He was a jerk through most of the story. And their chemistry was non existent. Bleh. No thanks.

4.5 Stars Hail No is the first title in the Lani Lynn Vale's new Hail Raiser's series, it's a romantic suspense that features Evander and Kennedy. As with every Lani Lynn Vale book that I have read, I just couldn't put this book down. I became absorbed in Kennedy and Van's world. Both characters are incredibly endearing, and captured my interest as well as my heart. This pair both are incredibly kind souls, that continually find themselves chewed up and spat out. Kennedy has a big heart, she's strong, quirky, sweet, and overall a survivor. She's continually used and abused and taken advantage of because of her genuine kindness and desperate need for love and acceptance. Van is an enigmatic character. Brooding, tattooed, a bit of a bad boy he's also kind, caring, and respectful. He's consistently let down by those closest to him, who are supposed to have his back. Kennedy and Van's tale is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I hated how they were treated as outcasts, when they were both such genuine and endearing characters. This pair complement each other beautifully Kennedy is the light, to Van's dark personality, and their chemistry is intense and hot! A story full of heart, heat and humor. Lani Lynn Vale has once again created a series, that I am sure I will be completely hooked on. I cannot wait for more of the Hail Raisers in coming months.

Four years in prison and Evander was back where it all began. First thing, get his dog. Afterall, he was not only his best friend but likely his only one. Then his former boss handed him the keys to the truck and put him back on the payroll. Kennedy came to this small town to find her family, starting with the twin sister she just learned about. Her family didn't want her either unless they needed something. Neither she nor Evander had the time or inclination to get involved. As it turned out they were neighbors. Despite what the town thought he was a good guy. Helping Kennedy out was mandatory. He couldn't let her go it alone. She was hot. He was hot. Resistance was futile. Old, new, or both enemies stepped in to try to send him back to prison. Could he chance putting her in those crosshairs? This is an exceptional story of loyalty, love, lost and found. Both protagonists have unmatched strength of character. The love of friends and lover is strong. You will laugh, cry, get spitting mad, and need a tall cold drink from the steam these two create. Another unforgettable emotional read and (YEA!) start to a new series. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On

One of the best books I've read in a long time. It covers everything you look for in a book ...love, sex, happy, sad and a perfect ending.

The story itself is good. Tugs at the heart strings. But some things didn’t make sense or where frustratingly adolescent. Kennedy and Evander’s journey starts out at a nice pace, with them having the time to get to know each other rather than just falling into bed quickly. But toward the end the story line seemed to rush to a finish. I also had a hard time with some of the conversation between the two. Like Evander telling Kennedy, “I can see your boogers”. So adolescent. Kennedy was made out to be “quirky” but some things that were intended to be silly or endearing but came off just ridiculous. Like Kennedy being angry with Evander and pressing her face so close to the bus window to tell Evander off she didn’t realize her nose was smashed and her nostrils were spread wide open. Small children do things like that, not 30 year old woman. Generally I enjoyed the read but some things just frustrated me.

I really love hot alpha men. Evandro and Kennedys story was full of attraction, danger, family, brotherhood, corrupt police department, rumors, but they did find their HEA!

*First person *Dual points of view Mrs. Vale has started another series off with a bang. I’ve been waiting on the Hail Auto Recover men for some time now. She definitely delivered. There were a few grammatical errors that distracted me as a reader. Also, there was the issue that I thought Kennedy mentioned that she wasn’t ready close to her sister, but then later let on like they were close.

What a great book to start off a new series. I absolutely loved Evander and Kennedy!!!! I abxolutely fell for Evander who is just gettin g out of prison for a crime he didn't commit and trying to move on with his life. And let's not forget Kennedy who hasn't had it easy and just wants to raise her chickens. I absolutely loved that she saw Evander for the good man that he was and refused to treat him as the rest of the people in town did. I promised myself I would read this book slowly, savor it, make it last. I just couldn't. The storyline sucked me in, and before I knew it, I was done!!!!! Now I just have to be patient and wait for the next book to come out!!!
