This is one of the first romance books that I've read in a really long time that I've fallen in love with. Seriously, if you want an intense and fresh start to romance novels, this book is for you. I am moving this to one of my top five favorite romance novels. The romance dynamic in this book does deal with m/f BDSM so if you are not into reading about it, this book is not for you. Both Shep and Claudia were such realistically flawed characters, but in a way that made them so irresistible and created such a dynamic tension that I couldn't stop reading their adorable interactions with each other. Balanced with a unique plot our intriguing heroine was a fresh take for romance protagonists ,the beginning of the book was really quick to start. However, the story really progresses the more you read! Will be reading more from the author!
I really liked this book and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
Shep and Claudia do not have a meet cute, the meet under horrific circumstances and that is why they form this incredible bond from the beginning the book. The way that Claudia's progress after the event happens felt quite real to me, she was not okay and she kept being not okay despite having this big bloody mountain man taking care of her and it was so important to me that that process wasn't hurried because the fact that she takes her time makes it realistic. Shep is just a darling, I mean I think this is the most polite bondage book that I've ever read and that is fantastic!!! It made the interactions between Shep and Claudia that much more enjoyable because he was so nice and attentive to her but at the same time giving her what she wanted and always keeping her first, there weren't any overly demeaning words and I really appreciated that because sometimes when that happens it totally gets me out of the scene happening in the book. The only thing that kind of bothered me were the noisy neighbors and townspeople but I guess that happens when you live in small towns. In all, I enjoyed the book and look forward to finding out what's next in this seres.
Perfect read. I was hooked after the first few pages, and was in love with Shep by the end of the book. Shep was a complex and developed character but he wasn't flawed. Claudia wasn't complex at all but she had some flaws or issues to workout, together they made a good couple. This book is written differently from most, this book is a series of interactions and conversations, time is not wasted on page long internal monologues the characters talk or they don't which I loved. The story also felt complete to me even though you really don't know what will happen, I believe a decision was made about their future that would make both characters happy.
This book generated quite a buzz on my twitter and goodreads timelines so I decided to check it out. I haven't read this author before. Haven starts out with a very impactful scene of a young woman on the run from an attacker. It's a good thing she stumbles upon Shep's cabin. There's a nice romantic suspense feel to this part of the book that I really liked. In the aftermath of Claudia's attack and rescue, she and Shep both gravitate back to each other. I really liked the dynamic between these two and totally got why they were drawn together. And they are great together, too. I really got the feeling that these two were never going to be better than they were together. The sparks are there no matter what they are doing. Complications arise when their relationship-with-an-expiration-date hits a rough patch. Claudia and Shep still have a lot to process regarding the way they met, and even though they communicate well, it's at this critical moment they can't talk to each other. I look a good heart-ripping-moment in a romance, and this one was pretty darn good. It only makes the reunion sweeter. Yeah, I really liked this book. The BDSM elements were very hot and gave the story just the right amount of spice. Shep had just enough vulnerability to balance his dominance, and Claudia had enough sass to complement her submission. There's a ton of feels when it comes to Shep and Claudia, both characters grabbed my attention right away and the story was perfectly paced to keep me coming back to this whenever I had a free moment. I will definitely have this author on my radar now. ARC provided for review.
Haven by Rebekah Weatherspoon Beards & Bondage Hooked from the first page and kept enthralled throughout – great characters and plot – loved this book. When Claudia Cade, running from certain death, pounds on Shep Olsen’s door one dark night he manages to save her from serial killers. She can heal physically from the wounds she has sustained but the loss of her brother and close brush with death leave her changed and somewhat broken. She wonders if she will ever be whole again. Returning to their lives “before the incident Claudia and Shep spend time apart thinking about that night, what nearly happened and the connection they seemed to make – an inexplicable connection. When Claudia doesn’t “heal” emotionally she returns to the scene of the crime following a hunch that spending time with Shep will be beneficial. What happens in the time they agree to spend with together is intense and scorching both physically and emotionally. Claudia leaves before their allotted time is up and again she and Shep spend their time separated from one another thinking, “what if?” By the end of the book I was definitely ready for them to find a way to be together for the long haul because they are so perfect for each other. If you are looking for a story with heart, kink, wonderful characters and a story you won’t be able to put down then I recommend this book to you. This is my first book by Weatherspoon but I doubt it will be my last. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars
