Disclaimer: ARC received in exchange for an honest review Heartbreaker is book three in the Rascals series by author Katie McCoy. The novels in this series follow a group of five best friends as they navigate love, life, liqueur, and the singles scene in Chicago, and it comes as no surprise to readers familiar with McCoy that each installment in the series ups the ante. Heartbreaker introduces us to Liam, the third member of this group of buddies. Liam is best friends with the series’ previous male protagonists, Emerson and Chase, and future book protagonists, Sawyer and Dante. In addition to his all-consuming career, Liam manages the financial aspects of Rascals, the newly-opened local watering hole owned by the five friends. Far from a free-spirit, Liam is an anal-retentive control freak obsessed with rules, order, and plans. Enter Juliet, a former ballerina, who is searching for purpose after an injury brings about her career’s untimely end. The formerly regimented and structured Juliet decides to throw caution to the wind, kissing strangers in bars and learning to sling drinks in said stranger’s bar. After a kismet meeting at Rascals, Liam and Juliet continue to cross paths; despite their obvious differences, the two are seemingly unable to deny the chemistry and attraction between them. There was a nice, organic quality to the development of the relationship between Liam and Juliet and this certainly speaks to the strengths of McCoy as an author. The only issue I take with Liam and Juliet’s romance is that they were really ineffective communicators, and although it’s not a major flaw, this is an issue I have with many of McCoy’s books. I don’t want to be talked to death, but rarely do McCoy’s characters “lay it all out there.” Because of the first-person, alternating points-of-view, the reader is privy to tons of the characters’ internal struggles, but at some point, it would be nice if the inner monologue spurred some actual dialogue. Because of this, it seemed as though some of the getting-to-know-you stage of the relationship was glossed over in favor of chemistry—which sizzled off the pages—and sexcapades (which were H.O.T.). Even though Chase is probably still my favorite protagonist (so far), this was still a great read. It was quick, engaging, well-developed, can be read as a stand-alone or as part of the series, and would easily be an attractive read for fans of the romance genre.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to that author..We get Liam part of the grop of guys from Rascal's Bar that we love so much. I was shocked to read how snobby Liam was and the type of woman that he wanted it didn't seem like any of the guys in this group would be like that. However when you read the background of his life you get why he felt that way and the good thing is that he comes back to earth and realizes that his list was ridiculous and he also noticed he was being a snob. We meet his love interet Juliet and she was perfect for him and the group..Love reading about the rest the of guys and girls and can't wait til next one! Enjoy!!!

Heartbreaker is the third book in the ‘Rascals’ series by Katie McCoy. Each book is a standalone, but does also follow on from the previous ones and there are little extras from those books. But, it doesn’t detract from the story and it’s not enough to make you have to read books Rascal and Wingman to find out what went down, although why haven’t you? They’re sooo good. LOL. And Heartbreaker just upped the ante. Anyhoo, onto the review… Ex-ballerina Juliet meets sexy as sin Liam at Rascals when she’s out for the night with friends. She is more than a little tipsy when she kisses him and is ready to take it further when Liam calls it a night. Jules is bummed but lets it go. She gets a job as a bartender at Rascals when she overhears the guys discussing plans to hire one, then she’s shocked to find out her mystery kisser is one of the owners. Cue embarrassment. Lol Juliet has lived a life ruled by constraint and denial, now she wants fun and spontaneity- hot tasty non diet food and even hotter guys. Liam has a list of requirement that his ‘ideal’ woman has to met and Juliet falls far short of them all, but the heart wants what it wants, and theirs both are in agreement even if their owners aren’t. Will Liam be able to thrown caution to the wind and just live in the moment or will he stay on the straight and narrow path he has set for himself. Can Juliet break through his tough exterior to the soft, sweet man inside? This was a fantastic addition to the Rascals club, the banter, the push and pull between Jules and Liam and their explosive chemistry made for a fast fun and sometimes angsty read. The snippet for Sawyer’s story at the end of the book has left me salivating with anticipation. Can’t wait to find out what happens next.

I just can’t get enough of The Rascals Series! Heartbreaker….the perfect title for this book, because that’s the exact ambience you get while reading this story. Liam…the heartbreaker. And Juliet, his inevitable victim. While reading this book, I experienced a whirlwind of emotions. Juliet was a refreshing, joyful character to connect with. Having her entire world turned upside down from a career-ending injury, she takes the fresh start that was thrust upon her and challenges herself to experience everything that was previously forbidden for her. Her personality was infectious and brought a fun and boisterous quality to the storyline. And then you have Liam. Mr. Control Freak. Mr. Hot and Cold. He embodies everything Juliet isn’t. His strict and carefully constructed life is the exact life Juliet left behind. His ideals and goals in achieving the perfect life, with the perfect woman by his side, seem unattainable. But can Liam trust himself and overcome the fear of his past repeating itself, and allow himself to feel and take a chance on someone he least expected? I really, really liked this book! And what a roller coaster of emotions this story elicits! One minute I wanted to climb Liam like a tree, high-five Juliet, slap Liam, shake Juliet, and then cuddle them both, reassuring them that everything will work itself out. The chemistry between them was provocatively magnetic, and their entire relationship was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Heartbreaker was the perfect addiction to the Rascals series! This book was wonderfully penned with equal parts humor, heartache, and passion. I can’t wait for what’s to come in this series for Sawyer and Dante.

Rascals: Book Three I absolutely love this series! Rascals is the neighborhood bar that we all wished we had in our lives! Heartbreaker is the story of Liam and Juliet. We meet Liam briefly in the other books in the series. He was a list maker, he was always in control.  He was always dressed impeccably and nothing deterred him from his goals. Juliet is the newest bartender at Rascal's.  Having to retire from ballet was quite the struggle for Juliet.  She is looking at the world and her life in a new and spontaneous way! The chemistry between Liam and Juliet is fantastic! I loved Juliet's "go get him" attitude! I love how she surprised herself with her boldness to go after what she wanted, even though she knew she didn't fit into "ideal" that Liam had thought he wanted. Liam has his own crosses to bear and because of those he has become the man he is.  He is so goal oriented that he doesn't see the forest through the trees.  His orderly life gets just the speed bump he needs when he meets Juliet. I absolutely enjoy this series by Katie! I would highly encourage you to read this story and all the books in this series! I cannot wait to get Sawyer's story next and you just know that there is a couple of characters that are going to be white hot in a future book!
