Henry II was the King of England from 1154 to 1189 and the founder of the Plantagenet (Angevin) dynasty. A tireless and often volatile ruler, he commanded a vast "Angevin Empire" that stretched from Scotland to the Pyrenees. He is best remembered for his revolutionary legal reforms, which laid the foundations for English Common Law, as well as his infamous conflict with Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, which ended in Becket's murder.
