Review: Her Rogue Alpha (X-Ops Book 5) by Paige Tyler Publication Date: September 6, 2016 Genre: Paranormal Romance Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Donna Rated: 4 Stars Jayson’s attitude and behavior frustrated me somewhat in the beginning, but once Layla got through to him, I realized that was all part of the story. And boy, what a jam-packed story it was. There were ops going on all over the place, and with the introduction of Dreya, I wasn’t sure whose romance it would be. My overall opinion is that it seemed a little crowded with two major stories woven together, and I wish there was more romance. That being said, I enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next book to see what happens. *Review copy provided NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ~*~*~*~

Okay read. I liked Hayes, the kids, and even the thief but the Ukranian plot was dumb. I did like the Powell and Moore developments. The Thorn connection needs to be resolved, that story line is getting old.

Jayson Harmon was severly injured during a mission a while ago. Since then he’s felt less than a man. He also doesn’t understand why Layla Halliwell wants anything to do with him. When an opportunity to make him complete comes along, he jumps at the chance, regardless the risks. My heart broke for Jayson when he was introduced in a previous book, so I was excited to see he got his own book and it didn’t disappoint. His determination to be the the man he feels Layla deserves at all costs made me love him even more. I thought Layla complimented him perfectly. She loves him for the man he is, scars and all and is willing to do anything to stay with him through everything. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

Hot, fast-paced, paranormal romantic suspense!!! HER ROGUE ALPHA by Paige Tyler is the fifth installment in the author's fantastic X-Ops series in which one covert operative has claws and the other is highly-trained and carries a gun. The series packs plenty of heat into exciting military/paranormal shifter romantic suspense. The X-OPS Series revolves around the missions of the super-secret Department of Covert Operations, the DCO, which operates out of Washington, DC, and the Department of Homeland Security. This installment includes lots of action on different fronts and favorites from former books in the series play heavily. That said, HER ROGUE ALPHA could be read as a stand-alone, if that is your preference. Paige fills in any necessary background information so a newbie is never lost. However, you should know that the reader's enjoyment will be exponentially increased if the series has been read in order. I'm so glad that former Army Special Forces Jayson Harmon and feline shifter and psychologist Layla Halliwell finally got their story! AND it certainly does not disappoint! As the story begins, we catch up with Jayson, who took a considerable load of shrapnel in his back in Afghanistan and is having major issues adjusting to being out of the Army and in figuring out what he's going to do with his life since being medically separated from duty. He has sunk so low that he cannot fathom why Layla would ever love and want to be with a broken man like him. Their relationship is teetering as, even though Layla really cares about him, she is tired of fighting with him, and he seems determined to push her away. When Layla is sent away on a DCO mission, Jason realized that he could never be the one sitting at home waiting for his mate to return. He makes a terribly stupid decision... and, you'll have to pick up the book to find out what happens next! Jayson's inferiority complex was maddening, but Layla was one determined mate! I wholeheartedly applauded her patience as I wanted to shake him! Once Jayson stopped feeling sorry for himself, I loved their chemistry and how well they synced both romantically and in action. These two have been supporting characters in the background for so long, their story satisfied all my longings for them. I've had a soft spot for Jayson as he struggled with his combat injuries and Layla has been there for the teams through thick and thin. Her own sister was vehemently against Layla becoming a DCO agent, but Layla stuck to her guns, and proved she can kick some a**! Paired with Jayson, they are super heroes! This series is an absolute read for all romantic suspense fans! Although 5th in the series (I have read them all), they can each be read as a stand alone book. Paige Tyler writes intriguing stories that are real page turners with an alpha hero and kick a** heroine that never disappoints. The suspense, intrigue, and sexual tension between Jayson and Layla was hot. I particularly loved Jayson's story about what mind over matter can do for someone that has been thru what he has. There were some previous characters from other books that were a part of the story but it did not detract from "Her Rogue Alpha". It will just make you want to go back and read more of this great series. I would like to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks for gifting me with a copy of "Her Rogue Alpha" and asking for my honest opinion. This is mine. 5 Stars!

Former Special Forces Lieutenant Jayson Harmon was injured in Afghanistan leaving him with severe back pain after shrapnel is embedded into his back after the RPG explosion. Since leaving Walter Reed and working at the DCA's range he feels as though he's a cripple. With everything he doesn't feel as though he's good enough for Layla Halliwell and has pushed her away. Layla is a feline shifter for DCA, a government organization that tracks and takes down bad guys all over the world. She knows that Jayson is a good man and is a hero that feels trapped by his injuries. When she goes on a mission he feels helpless sitting at home, Jayson feels he should be there with her. Jayson agrees to take an experimental hybrid injection too heal his back and make him valuable to the organization and to Layla as well. The doctor knowing full well the injection can kill him, she gives him an antidote beforehand with the hope it could save his life. He is then sent on a mission to rescue a Congressman's son in Ukraine with another agent, Powell who dislikes shifters and hybrids. Powell ends up betraying him and after trying to kill him goes to work for the local militia leader. When Layla hears about the mission she immediately begins to worry and with the help of Kendra she gets on the next plane out to go and search for him to help. This story takes off at a dead run from the first page and it doesn't slow down until the end. Paige Tyler knows how to write a suspenseful story. I really enjoyed this story, I was biting my nails to find out what Jayson, Layla, and the three boys' plan was to rescue the girls. Help showed up at exactly the perfect time. These two characters knew they belonged together but Jayson had to work past his feelings and depression. They are strong and dedicated to each other willing to protect each other and those around the world that need their help. Great story and since this is my first book of this series I can't wait to go back and get to know all the other characters. Great book, highly recommend! Totally loving this series!!! Jayson is finally getting his story after hovering in the background for a little while. He's a wounded hero searching for some sort of purpose in life. Not being able to return to active duty had destroyed him inside. But Layla sees something else in Jayson, and she's determined to prove to him that he's worth far more than he think.s I had a bit of a problem with Jayson at first. He had popped up in previous books and I quickly labeled him as whiny (then felt guilty, because he had his reasons). So I had a hard time going into this one liking him from the very beginning. Layla saw something I didn't, and I'm glad she did. While he makes some pretty stupid decisions, his need to be a "whole man" again is driving him, and I can understand that. It also gave him a drive to stop being the grumpy, woe-is-me type and get moving. Once Jayson got moving, even though he was still not back to his old self, his determination and drive made me fall in love with him. I wish he could have had this from the very beginning. His mission is a dangerous one, and possibly a set up, but he will get the job done or die trying. But Layla isn't going to sit back and let him risk his life on his own, she rushes off to help and I loved every minute of it. A great addition to the X-Ops series, I'm only sorry that now I have to wait for the next one! *This book was received in exchange for an honest review*

Her Rogue Alpha is the fifth book in Paige Tyler’s X-Ops series, combining military and government forces special operation missions with paranormal elements, specifically characters that are shifters or genetically enhanced hybrids. The combination of tight, action packed sequences with the skills of paranormal heroes and heroines make for some entertaining stories. Once again, the operatives of the DCO have their hands full, both at home and abroad. Jayson and Layla are already an established couple but Jayson is dealing with some serious PTSD and he makes some rash decisions, including choosing to be injected with a hybrid serum and engaging in a mission in the Ukraine. Layla follows him there and they soon discover the mission is much more complicated than either expected. Because they are already together I didn’t find there was a lot of sexual tension in the story, but we do get some sexy scenes as they finally connect physically and emotionally during the mission. Layla provides the support and understanding Jayson needs while working through his issues and her empathetic nature makes her very likable. While Jayson and Layla work together in the Ukraine, things at home seem equally unstable. A thief has stolen an item from former Senator Thorn, an action witnessed by Ivy (Layla’s sister) and her partner Landon. It’s an interesting and action packed subplot that is left open-ended (while the other storyline in the Ukraine is complete), paving the way for the next story in the series, that appears will focus on Dreya the thief and Hayes, the police officer in charge of the investigation. I’m probably going to have to pick that one up too, since I want to know what will happen with them (good work, Ms. Tyler).  Her Rogue Alpha is light on romance but fits in well with the rest of the series and has some fun action packed scenes in a fast moving plot, providing an entertaining story.

This is a great book; this is the fifth book in the X-Ops series written by Paige Tyler. Jayson Harmon is a former special forces Lieutenant and can’t believe that his war scars don’t matter to Layla Halliwell, a beautiful feline shifter. Layla know that Jayson is a hero and she wants to heal is wounded soul. So when he is deployed on a mission, she is determined to go with him. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

This one tore my heart out. Former Special Forces Lieutenant Jayson Harmon is a wounded war hero. He fell for feline shifter Layla Halliwell at his best friend’s wedding to her sister. He is working at the DCO range but Layla is working towards becoming a field agent. He feels less and less worthy of her to the point where he is making bad decisions. Fortunately he has people looking out for him and protecting him from himself. Jayson’s ego is wrapped around his body’s ability to perform he is forced to learn on an accelerated scale what most elder folks have. That the parts may be worn but they still have worth. As with any X-Ops book there is action and intrigue and love. Her Rogue Alpha may just be the best in this series yet.

His sore back if far from the only ache that Jayson Harmon brought back from Kabul. He feels the only good thing in his life is his girlfriend, catshifter Layla Halliwell. Jayson has not been at his best, to put it mildly, and this because he loves her but he feels unworthy. Layla is beginning to wonder if trying to love Jayson is all worth it, when her answer comes from an unexpected source. Jayson’s boss at DCO – the Department of Covert Operations – made Jayson an outrageous proposition, which Jayson cannot refuse; he needs this to try to feel alive again. But when Layla hears of Jayson’s foolish endeavour, she throws caution to the wind; she will see that he comes home alive, even if she has to wing it! Unbelievable but true! HER ROGUE ALPHA is the fifth book in Paige Tyler fantastic X-Ops series, which shows no sign of slowing down! The continuing story arc gets even more complicated, and there is so much action, you barely have time to breathe before something else happens. This book might be a bit harder for a newcomer to the series, but the story is so exciting, it’s worth the effort; the worst that could happen is that you would want to read all the previous books, which you would never regret. Jayson’s plight felt so real I had tears in my eyes at the beginning, but wow! When he comes to his senses, it’s magnificent and absolutely believable! Layla is just your typical Paige Tyler female character: fabulous, fierce, engaging and she actually saves the day; how wonderful! I loved how the romance between Layla and Jayson progressed: every facet of the feelings they had for each other grew as they faced dangerous situations; nothing felt fabricated. That’s exactly how I like a romance to unfold. And O joy! Paige Tyler introduced two wonderful characters which will appear in future instalments as well as a favourite of mine who will make an appearance in the future. X-Ops fans, this is not over by far! Hurray for Paige Tyler! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
