His Wicked Lady by Ruth Ann Nordin

Helena, Melissa, and Chloe have started arranging marriages, but not all will go smoothly on the way to a happily ever after…

Regan Alger, the Lady of Cantrell, is bored with her life. Yes, she’s been more fortunate than most. She was once married to a wonderful gentleman, and this love resulted in her young son—a boy she loves more than anything. But even a son can’t fill the void in her life. She misses having a husband, both in and out of bed, so when she happens to come across a gentleman at a ball who ignites her passion, she decides he’ll be her next husband. And she’s not the least bit shy about letting him know it.

Just as determined as Regan is to have Mr. Malcolm Jasper for a husband, he’s equally determined to end up with anyone but her. If he marries her, his life will be one of chaos and scandal. He’s sure of it. After all, she’s much too outspoken and flirtatious. So he jumps at the chance for an arranged marriage, thinking once he secures a reputable and quiet bride, Regan will leave him alone. Little does he know, though, his sister and her two friends know Regan wants to marry him, and they are more than happy to help Regan get what she wants.

Regan’s risk pays off. She manages to secure him as her husband. Will the gamble pay off? Or has she just doomed them both?

About the Author

Ruth Ann Nordin has written seventy romances, ranging from Regencies to historical westerns to contemporaries. She plays with other genres from time to time, but her first love is romance. She has been happily married for eighteen years to a sweet and funny guy, and they have four sons, who are all taller than Ruth now that they're 12, 13, 14, and 16. The good thing is she doesn't need a ladder, and there's always someone to take care of a mouse that squeezes its way into her Montana home. She considers herself very lucky to have led such a charmed life. Being able to play with characters and create stories is just icing on the cake. Hopefully, she'll get to keep doing this many years to come.

I have to say I wasn’t thrilled with this story in the beginning. I almost stopped reading it but I like to give books a chance to redeem themselves LOL. Seriously, sometimes the worst beginning turns out to be a really good book. This one eventually got better. It actually had a happy ending and the couple involved turned out to be very cohesive. The main character, Malcom Jasper, is a really uptight kind of man. His father visits him in his home to urge him to get married (then totally disappears from the book). He allows his sister to go to the matchmaker and pick his wife for him and doesn’t bother to even meet her before he gets married. Who does that!! In the meantime he is at a ball and dances with a woman and is seen by another woman, Regan, who decides she wants him. So when they finish dancing and he’s walking away Regan, grabs his hand and pretty much drags him on the dance floor to dance with her. Again, WHAT??? What century are we in? Even a widow can’t get away with that during the time this story takes place. Remember, he’s an uptight kind of guy being forced to dance with a woman...he balks but chooses not to create a scene (he’s very scandal phobic). She really likes him. He really doesn’t like her. Then she just keeps popping up in his path constantly. Then the matchmaker visits his home to almost beg him to fill out the questionnaire which he again refuses saying his sister knows him well and will choose the best woman. So you can see what’s coming, right? All I can say is you gotta read it for yourself.

Loved this one too. I enjoyed the characters and the story. I can always read more if the story was expanded. On to the next one in May.

His Wicked Lady by Ruth Ann Nordin Marriage by Arrangement Series Book one Malcolm Jasper loves financial thinking. How to make money, save money, investments that make more money, and friends who also enjoy making money with his help. He also likes avoiding scandals. He quite strongly dislikes his brother-in-law...and the scandalous woman who was much too bold for his tastes. Regan Alger, the Lady of Cantrell, has been widowed for three years. She misses her husband and the more intimate part of marriage. She decides it's time to marry once again. She needs a man who will love her son and enjoy the bedchamber. And she knows just who she wants to fill that spot. Two more opposite people would be difficult to find than Malcolm and Regan. Join them on their journey to find out if a happily-ever-after can be found for the two of them...together. And you'll never guess what deep secret Regan holds that could ruin everything. Great story. **Sexual content within marriage

Jasper is way too uptight and thinks too highly of his own importance. It’s both sad and comical. Regan sees the humor in most things, especially in Jasper. He finds her way too scandalous to consider when it becomes clear he needs a wife. The three fates (Helena, Chloe and Melissa) make sure that Jasper ends up with exactly who he needs. I loved Regan’s little boy and how delighted he is at having a new father. Jasper’s one redeeming quality at the beginning of the book is his interactions with the children. I like how he changes once he’s willing to give Regan a chance. His reaction to Regan choosing him over his perceived nemesis is fantastic. This is a nice light read with very little angst and a sweet HEA. Adult read
