Hold On Tight by J. Kenner

I haven't trusted women in a long time. Not since Brooke left me at the altar, breaking my heart and hardening my soul.

Now she needs me. Or at least she needs my star power. Because the only way she'll get her television reality series on the air is if I'm part of the deal.

I want to say no. After all, I've tried for years to forget her. But the hard truth is that I still want her. Even more, I want to punish her.

So I'll agree, but only my terms. Provocative, demanding, and wildly sensual terms.

It's the perfect set-up for extracting revenge ... but only if I don't fall for Brooke all over again.

Who's Your Man of the Month?

When a group of fiercely determined friends realize their beloved hang-out is in danger of closing, they take matters into their own hands to bring back customers lost to a competing bar. Fighting fire with a heat of their own, they double down with the broad shoulders, six-pack abs, and bare chests of dozens of hot, local guys who they cajole, prod, and coerce into auditioning for a Man of the Month calendar.

But it's not just the fate of the bar that's at stake. Because as things heat up, each of the men meets his match in this sexy, flirty, and compelling binge-read romance series of twelve novels releasing every other week from New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner.

"With each novel featuring a favorite romance trope--beauty and the beast, billionaire bad boys, friends to lovers, second chance romance, secret baby, and more--this series hits the heart and soul of romance." -- New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips

Each book is a STANDALONE romance with an HEA and an overarching story about the friends and the bar. Totally hot and utterly binge-worthy!

4.5 Star Review Hold On Tight (Man of the Month #2) by J Kenner The second in the series and in my opinion almost as good as the first book. What happens when reformed bad boy and reality TV star Spencer Dean comes face to face with Brooke Hamilton, the woman, who left him at the altar 5 years ago. This is the situation that Spencer finds himself in, not only that but it appears Brooke holds his future and that of his new show in her hands and vice a versa. Talk about complicated, this makes for an interesting yet quick read that left me wanting more. Hold on Tight is a second chance at love story. Can they put their differences aside and work together to ensure both get the success they deserve, or will fate and the meddling of Brooke’s father prove to much once again? Although told from both perspectives, the author also had to write about the past which had shaped Spencer and Brooke’s present, this was melded together so well that I had no trouble following at all. My only concern was that one minute Spencer was bound and determined to exact revenge on Brooke and appeared to hate her with a passion and then the next he was back in love with her; it all seemed just a tad too hurried, but that is only my opinion. I will admit that I would love to have my own Spencer Dean in my life and I was happy that he and Brooke were able to overcome the horrors of the past and look to a future together. The characters were easy to relate to, not only the main characters but the supporting ones as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this extremely well written and entertaining story and I cannot wait for Cameron’s book in the Man Of The Month series.

This is a story of second chances. Brooke makes the hardest sacrifice on her wedding day (leaving Spencer (the love of her life) on their wedding day. Spencer was devastated when Brooke left him. Believing she left because he wasn’t good enough for her. Now they are both brought together in a reality show, can they find their way back? Even if they do, with the force which tore them apart do it again? J. Kenner has again brings you along for the journey. A journey you do not want to miss! Cannot wait for March!

Hold on Tight is Book 2 in the Man of the Month Series and in true J. Kenner fashion each book gives us another man to swoon and fall in love with, in this book we get to know Spencer Dean and Brooke Hamlin the girl who left him at the alter five years ago. Spencer doesn’t trust women and who could blame him after giving Brooke his all, she left him broken, maybe now is the time to break her.... Spencer is a tv icon who has a remodeling show and he needs to film the final show on his contract but there is a catch to end his contract and get help with his new project he needs to co host with Brooke ..... This book has it all, love, revenge, second chances and a few twists and turns along the way, the chemistry is sizzling and the banter is perfect. Once again this author has given us a real page turner that I couldn’t put down, looking forward to next Man if the Month !!!!

A second chance at love is all some people dream of but not always something that happens. In their case it may be what they need. I love second chance romances especially when it is with characters that just break your heart. The best of intentions doesn't always work out as planned. When they find themselves in a position of needing each other in business at first it is not with the best of intentions. But of course nothing is ever easy and the obstacles haven't disappeared they are just using different tactics. It isn't going to be easy especially when the truth comes out. Secrets, lies, betrayal all make for a good story, the characters make it more. This story will hurt but it will also heal. I am loving this group, the strength, love, support and the calendar. This book is almost as good as the first one which is wonderful because it lets you know the intensity doesn't fall. While each book could probably be read as a standalone don't do it, read them all or you will be cheating yourself.

J. Kenner has only gone and done it again. This series will be one you could read again. Spencer is the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, Brooke comes from the other side but when she breaks Spencer's heart he leaves only to return years later. But will the push of having to co host a show with Brooke be the making of them? The passion and spark between Brooke and Spencer is there from the start, despite the two never stopped loving each other, Spencer see's the opportunity to get revenge but what he doesn't expect is to fall in love all over again. This book can be read as a standalone.

This is one emotion-packed book! I really felt for both Brooke and Spencer and the difficult situation they find themselves in. They used to be engaged, until Brooke left Spencer at the altar. They had great chemistry and the tension of their past really added another emotional level to their relationship. Spencer Dean has become a household name, starring in a popular house-flipping program. He is retired from television, but the producers want him to do a final show with a co-star, centering on the remodeling of the bar where the Man of the Month contest will take place. The network has paired him with a remodeling expert, who happens to be his former fiancée, Brooke Hamlin. Spencer was an amazing leading man, his struggle to be there for Brooke despite his hurt and anger showed his character. I loved that even though Brooke had wounded him horribly, he didn’t hate her. Time and again, he proved to Brooke that he was a decent man. Watching his struggle and his determination to remain strong against the pull of his love for her was powerful! Brooke has been forced to make a terrible decision that has cost her her chance at happiness. Seeing Spencer opens old wounds but she is prepared to give in to him. You really get a sense of how much these two mean to each other. I liked how things progressed, how they really had to work things out and learn to trust one another again. I rooted for them and I liked seeing them struggle, grow and heal. They definitely deserved their HEA. This book was a great addition to the Man of the Month series! I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.

Hold on Tight is the second book in the new Man of The Month series. This book is the story of Mr. February and the story of Brooke and Spencer. Nothing is as delicious as second chance romance with a Romeo and Juliet type feel! Brooke was introduced in book one when she met with Jenna to go over renovations for The Fix, the Sixth Street bar in Austin that they are trying to save from financial troubles. Brooke has her own Commercial Renovation Company, much to the disappointment of her parents. They are from the upper crust, her father is a lawyer and her mother is a doctor. They expected her to go to medical school and much to their disappointment, she chose another path. Spencer is from a poor family. His father went from job to job and they lived in a trailer. His brother joined a local gang and was caught and put in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He was just in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong people. Spencer learned the construction trade from his father. Spencer and Brooke met and fell in love. Brooke’s family didn’t want Brooke to marry Spencer because of his family and background. While planning a future with Brooke, Spencer worked construction and he was good with renovations. So good he approached the network about a television show and became a network star with Spencer’s Place. All was in motion for a happily ever after until Brooke called it off and they have been incommunicado for the last five years. Spencer continued with Spencer’s Place until his friend and investment manager does some shady dealings and Spencer is in financial trouble. Spencer leaves the network and Spencer’s Place with one more season to film on his contract and returns to Austin. Spencer has been back in town for months and hasn’t run into his ex-finance Brooke until their paths cross when Brooke tries to broker a deal with the network to do a reno show on The Fix. The deal the network makes with Brooke is they will do the show if she does it with Spencer. He has a project on an old home he wants to do on Spencer’s Place, but the network plays the game if you do the reno show with Brooke then you can do the project on Spencer’s Place. They know of Spencer and Brooke’s troubled history and want that drama for the show. I really disliked Spencer in the beginning. He is bitter and very angry. He wants Brooke to hurt as badly as he did, and he wants revenge. Brooke and Spencer have not spoken in five years and he has no idea the hell and heartbreak Brooke has been through since she had to call off the wedding to the only man she has ever loved and still loves. Brooke and Spencer have a lot of issues and hurt to move through. This is a bittersweet second chance romance. There are secrets, bitterness, and regret that have to be dealt with. As the story unfolds, details are revealed, and secrets are told. My heart hurt for both of them. Spencer redeemed himself and I began to root of them to turn their relationship around. This second chance romance with a Romeo and Juliet feel is just the thing to help with the winter blahs. I really enjoyed Mr. February and really look forward to Mr. March!

Great addition to the series Hold On Tight is a second chance romance story, filled with heart and redemption. I enjoyed Brooke and Spencer’s story. After five years, they never forgot about each other and the chemistry is still there. Although the reason behind Brooke calling off the nuptials was heartbreaking, the sacrifice she made on behalf of Spencer and his older brother felt like the right thing to do. Now that Spencer and Brooke’s paths are thrown together, he wants his revenge on Brooke for tearing out his heart when she left him at the altar. But one look at her and the feelings all come rushing back. He’s never really stopped loving Brooke and this time around he’s not letting her go. No matter what gets in the way of him claiming her. While working together on the reality TV show featuring The Fix, an Austin favorite bar, the highlight will be refurbishing the bar and the big promotional of the February Man of the Month contest. It’s finally looking up for Spencer and Brooke, and I hope to find out more in the upcoming books in the Man of The Month series. Lots of new characters, and although it’s standalone, I feel you might want to start with the first book to get the full appreciation. I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Hold On Tight by J. Kenner is book #2 in the Man of the Month series. In order to save their local bar the owners of The Fix are doing a man of the month competition and a bar renovation reality tv show. Spencer Dean has lost a lot in his life, his brother to jail, and the woman of his dreams on their wedding day. Most recently he was scammed out of his money. He has one more renovation on his reality tv contract and renovating The Fix will get him past that and on to a show renovating a mansion he has always wanted. The only problem, Brooke Hamlin, the woman who left him at the alter is who he will be working with. Will that be a deal killer, or an opportunity for retribution. Brooke has been trying to get out from under her family's thumb and having her own renovation business, highlighted in a reality tv show to revitalize The Fix is perfect. Spencer's involvement is gut wrenching. Leaving him 5 years before was a choice that was forced on her, but what will Spencer do with her? To her? Her need to get her business off the ground is first and foremost and Spencer is a wild card in her plans. I liked the use of locations and atmospheres that were both in flashbacks to Brooke and Spencer's past as well as the present day. Their history is passionate and the family details from both are driving forces for the situations they have been in. The dynamic between them in undeniable and I liked that it was not needlessly torturous. Yes there was a sense of past hanging over them, but the positive side of their history and love was not dampened. I enjoyed the development of the overall story arc as well as specific plot in this book. Spencer and Brooke are the driving forces amid a torrent of various eddies. Overall I enjoyed Hold On Tight by J. Kenner and Brooke and Spencer's characters. This was a passionate, fun and fulfilling book. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book I received for free in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)

Another great book for this series and Julie Kenner. If you love fixed upper shows you with a lil heat/love/drama in the mix this is a book for you. Spencer is a man from a broken past trying to keep the one thing he needs in his life. But to do so he has to work with the one woman that pulled a runaway bride from him. Brooke is that woman, she had her reasons for leaving but when Spencer sees her all he can think is a sweet revenge. She needs him for this job, we'll be needs her and will push her to the edge and then say goodbye...or so he thinks. Both come from different life's and with so many obstacles in their past that will surface to store them apart. Julie has this way of bringing you to your knees with the heart and soul of her characters and their trauma. You root for these characters even when they are at their darkest moments. You'll root for Spencer and Brooke. Also if you read Down on Me , the first book of the series you will see some of your favs. Can't wait for Cameron's story aka Mr. March. *ARC read, thanks Melissa and Julie.

When I read the first book in the series, I was definitely hooked. And I knew that Spencer and Brooke's story will be a must read. I definitely wasn't disappointed. In my opinion is even better than the first one. There is angst, heartbreak, some laughter and some scorching hot scenes. And it doesn't hurt that Spencer can melt your panties with a look :D Both Brooke and Spencer are incredible characters. Though their first try at being together didn't end up that well, they still harbour strong feelings for each other. And once their paths cross again, all bets are off. They will fight all odds to stay together. Even of they have to go against people close to them. To be honest, I admire both characters for their strength and determination. Spencer fought with everything he had to make something of his life. To be able to take care of and support the people he loves. And even though, he grew up into a respectable man, he still carries the scars from his younger years when most people thought he was just not good enough. Though Brooke's life might be considered much easier than Spencer's, she still needed strength and determination to survive her family's ultimatums and treatment. And on top of that she had to live through a painful tragedy that left her scarred and afraid of opening up. But once Spencer and Brooke's paths cross again, they find the way to heal the still bleeding wounds. And this time around, no once can stay in their way to HEA. As a whole this is a really good somewhat short read. I and I think you will miss a lot if you don't get to meet Spencer and Brooke. So be sure to #1click your copy asap ;) As for me, I can't wait to get my hands on Cameron and Mina's story :)

Loving this series and we're only on February! I don't think twelve months are going to be enough! Brooke and Spencer's story is a second chance love story after they're reunited five years after Brooke left him at the altar. My heart broke for these two at all the road blocks that were put up to prevent them being together. Brooke and Spencer are meant to be together though and true love wins at the end. I loved all the characters in this book, well except for two, and the friendship and loyalty this group has for each other. I was hooked at page one and couldn't put it down! Can't wait for the next book!

This is the second in the Man of the Month series and it will have you glued to your chair. It is a quick read and can be read in one sitting. Brooke is looking to boost her business visibility and pitches an idea for a television show. The producers are interested but there are two caveats. The first is that she has to find a place for the remodel and the second is she has to work with her ex-fiancé Spencer. Spencer is a man from the wrong side of the tracks who has worked hard to give himself a better life. Brooke is his opposite and has a father who would do anything to keep his daughter away from Spencer. The lengths that Brook’s father will go will leave you cold. The love between Brook and Spencer can be felt throughout the pages. However, Brooke has a secret. Can they rekindle the love they once had to make a relationship work between them? Hold on to your heartstrings as you read this one but you will be glad you did! I volunteered to read an arc of this story.

This is the second book in the series. It's all about second chances. Spencer and Brooke had the love of a lifetime, but circumstances took it away. Now fate has brought these two back into each others lives. There was a tiny space of time I cringed when it came to Spencer. What he was about to do had me screaming NO at him, but I shouldn't have worried. I'm very happy with the direction this book went and the little side stories going on made me happy as well. Also a nice set up for the next book in the series. I can't wait for the next one. I'm already invested in all the guys and girls working their butts off to save the bar.

More of a 4.5 than 5 star read for me, but loved it nonetheless. I felt like I flew through this book. This book focused more on Spencer and Brooke (the lead characters), whereas the first book in the series really set the scene and introduced a lot of the men who would be the leads in future books and possible females leads. You'll be introduced to some new characters that will probably appear in future books and get to know some characters we were introduced to in the first book. Brooke, the daughter of wealthy parents; Spencer, the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, with a bit of criminal past. It's your typical second chance love story of good girl and bad boy that is written well. There are no whiny characters, just strong characters dealing with reasonable self doubt. I do wish the revenge aspect had been carried out a tad bit longer. While we can all pretty much figure out what ending is going to be of the series, I'm curious to see all the twists and turns of the individual books as we learn all about all of these characters, as well as the story as a whole. Because I've read so many books from this author, I think I'm more excited for the books of characters we've encounter in previous series. Only time will tell and Book 3 will be here before we know it.

This second story in the J Kenner's new Man of the Month series presents the second chance romance trope between former bad boy, Spencer, and rich girl making it on her own, Brooke. Five years ago, Brooke left Spencer at the altar with a seemingly lame reason, but due to his immature insecurities, Spencer believed her and walked away. Fast forwarding, Brooke presents an opportunity that may help grow her small design remodeling company, but her ex-fiancee must come with the deal. Although Brooke still feels justified she made the right, difficult decision 5 years ago, her heart fears Spencer may never forgive her apparent betrayal of their love. Since the story is told from a dual perspective, we know her fears are justified since Spencer essentially tells Brooke he plans to use her and leave her once the project is complete. Their never-abated love for one another allows the truth to come out, but people and events from their past resurface to threaten their new relationship. As with the first book in the series, I loved the connection between our Hero and heroine. J Kenner's ability to create deep, meaningful characters we can relate to, distinguishes her from other authors. Unlike other series-styled books, each love story is seamlessly embedded within the continuation of the series story featuring a group of friends trying to save their beloved neighborhood bar. Each book in the series reaches a satisfying conclusion, but the underlying contest to find each month's featured "cover boy" also brings fun to each book. Can't wait to read the next ones!!

I love the concept of this series. Although this is book two, I felt that it was so well written that it could be read solo. It was that awesome. The desire between Spencer and Brooke was hot! I felt each of their sorrows and quickly became their biggest cheerleader. That kind of bond with characters and readers isn't luck. It's pure talent. And J Kenner has that in spades! A fantastic read!

4.25 stars--sexy and sassy series 4.25stars--HOLD ON TIGHT is the second instalment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult MAN OF THE MONTH erotic, romance novella series. This is celebrity and former reality star Spencer Dean, and real-estate rehabber/business entrepreneur Brooke Hamlin’s story line. HOLD ON TIGHT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Some of the events in HOLD ON TIGHT cross over and run parallel with the events of book one DOWN ON ME with the reintroduction of an ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters. Told from dual third person perspectives (Spencer and Brooke) HOLD ON TIGHT follows the second chance romance between former reality star and remodelling expert Spencer Dean, and real-estate rehabber Brooke Hamlin. Five years earlier our heroine walked away from the only man she would ever love but a man she vowed to protect even if it meant destroying his heart. Abandoned and humiliated at the altar, Spencer Dean would go on to make it big in the reality rehabbing business but fame would come at a cost when someone he trusted took everything he owned including the woman that he loved. Fast forward to present day wherein the local hangout, known as The Fix, is in desperate need of renovations, and a plan is put into motion including a Man of the Month calendar competition, and a reality show aimed at rehabbing the bar. Spencer is offered a role in the local television show but a role that comes with an unwanted co-star. Enter Brooke Hamlin, Spencer’s ex-fiance, and the woman who destroyed his heart. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Brooke and Spencer, and the potential fall out when Spencer’s past threatens to destroy-everything-once again. HOLD ON TIGHT is a quick read; a story of second chances; of the emotional fall-out of one man’s power and need to control; and the emotional and heartbreaking backlash as it affects three lives, and the future of our story line couple. The premise is captivating; the romance is passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text; the characters are charismatic and real. J. Kenner’s MAN OF THE MONTH series is a sexy, sassy and intriguing look at family, friendship and the consuming nature of romance and love.

Any future together for Spencer Dean and Brooke Hamlin stopped being a possibility five years ago when Brooke broke Spencer’s heart and walked away without a second glance and without an explanation as to the reasons behind her abrupt departure. But the past always has a way of encroaching on the present and when Brooke’s future career depends on Spencer’s acquiescence, it’s clear that if these two don’t make amends and have an honest conversation about what happened all those years ago, Spencer and Brooke’s hearts will never mend and Brooke will never have a chance to prove she can handle herself in front of and behind the camera. I love second chance romance stories, especially when the love the hero and heroine felt for each other never dissipated. In Spencer’s perspective, Brooke is the reason his life imploded, leaving him unable to move past how she left things and the many unanswered questions he has. But while it’s clear that it was Brooke’s actions that destroyed her relationship with Spencer, what readers are told about the circumstances surrounding their break up is much needed information - insight that absolutely proves that the decision was forced upon her and the fact that she’s berated herself and broken her own heart many times over attempting to deal with the fallout of her involuntary act shows just how much she regretted losing the only man she’s ever loved. The premise behind J. Kenner’s Man of the Month series is to provide fast paced sultry and sweet reads that invite readers to experience hot and heavy encounters between the heroes and the heroines, and while there is some backstory provided and the plot has some substance to it in terms of why the characters are coming together - to save their favorite bar - The Fix on Sixth - and how all the characters are connected, these stories aren’t meant to dive too deep into anything too dramatic or emotional, keeping things mostly light and interweaving those moments with the sizzling encounters experienced by the hero and the heroine. Two spots in the calendar have been filled, but there are still ten more to assign, and I can’t wait to see which males become Mr. March through December…I’m sure they’ll be gorgeous and also have to be persuaded to participate…just like the first two. 4 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
