Overview

Brown Monastery Refillable Italian Leather Journal (6"x8")

This fine leather journal is handcrafted in Tuscany, Italy using a special color transfer technique. Each design has been copied on to a special film that can only be transferred on to natural materials.

Made of soft nubuck leather, which absorbs each color of the print, this journal may naturally change color over time. Since each journal is handmade, the color may vary, adding to the natural and unique beauty of the product.

I have been using this journal for over two years, and I have no intention of ever replacing it. It is 3mm thick and made from two pieces sewn togther. The outermost layer has been treated so as to be water repellant. The inner layer is "raw" and incredibly soft. It's the kind of leather you might find in a genuine old-style leather-worker's shop. It has held up wonderfully and *still* has that deep leather smell. The pages are very thick, smooth, and non-porous. Amazing quality, especially for the price.
On the refills - Admittedly, B&N's online categorical system is pathetic at best. Searching for journal, 6x8, and italian leather will each net you unique results. First link - most popular; ivory pages; lined. Second link - lined. Third link - not lined. You can find refills at almost any stationary store as well. It would be a shame to pass this journal up because a link to the refill pages wasn't embedded in the item description.

I contacted this company to see if they could special order the refills to fit this & they were willing to. They are handmade in Italy so it takes a little while, but they will get them for you. The link to the ordering page is http://jbsecure.com/product_info.php?products_id=534 Hope this helps people.

I LOVE LOVE this journal!! It is beautiful leather, very rich feeling. The paper is very nice. I keep it at work to write my thoughts down during the day. I have been a journal writer on and off my whole life. I know others complained about no replacement when you have filled the journal. I found a replacement at levenger.com (infinity journal refill XL) which fits perfectly.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He absolutely loves it. The manly look was just what he was looking for. It looks wonderful on the bookshelf and is very reasonably price for the quality of it. I would highly recommend it, definately a great gift for any man, or woman.

I absolutely LOVE this journal. I got it on November, 23rd, and I still haven't finished it. Not that I want to, anyway. It's refillable, so I won't have to worry about getting a new journal, and that's fine by me, because  I really don't  want to get a new compared to this one. Right now on working on 'Journal One'. When this is finished, 'Journal Two', here I come! The cover ISN'T weak, although that little piece that closes it gets in the way. I reccomend using a pencil, perhaps a Papermate Sharpwriter because it looks its best when using a five dollar pack of pencils.

Although they have a lack of refills it was a great journal to write within. The leather cover keeps its touch while the pages keep its nice quality. Italy makes good bread, but even better journals. I've had this for over a year now and thought I should write this review, for it's quality never leaved. A must have

This a great journal... very practical when using it... I see a need in a refill of this quality. I will keep looking... again, great product... Carlos...

The journal itself is very nice. I purchased it due to the fact that it has more pages than a standard journal and is refillable. The only issue with that is Barnes & Noble doesn't carry the refills.

The journal is a perfect gift for a seasoned writer and or a beginning writer. It's beautiful.

This is a handsome journal, well-made, and a good size for writing. Many people have lamented the difficulty of finding refills, but I purchased two extras at the local store yesterday. Apparently, someone at B&N pays attention to these reviews. As long as the refills are made easily available, this is a very fine journal and one you will enjoy for years to come.

I love this journal! I filled every page from January to December of this 2014. (I did leave pages blank to write in there years from now) I write poetry in the journal I recommended below.

I bought this journal from a B&N store and do absolutely love it. Paper quality is great and the leather is excellent quality. I was told by the B&N store that refills could be ordered on the B&N website which is NOT TRUE and very frustrating. Thanks to the review written by "tisci" there is a link to order from a different vendor but don't ever lose this link because B&N certainly can't help you find a refill!! I called customer service at B&N who suggested I go back to the store I bought it in and 'try' to find a refill that fit. At the store, they tell you to go online. Look!! I've become a cat chasing my corporate-run-around tail!

I am just not sure this is real leather.  I was able to pick up a refill at the B&N where I live.  But, the cover?  Really doubting if it ever was attached to an animal at one time.  Wonder why they dont just admit that up front?

This is an exceptional leather journal, but . . . and here is the catch . . .you can't find a refill for it and it is refillable. You can find refills but they don't fit the wonderful leather cover.

I purchased this 'Monastery Journal' because it has exactly the features I was looking for -- the paper is thick and unlined and works great with a fountain pen. The leather cover is well-made and will last for some time. Simply marvelous. I soon discover though one cannot get a refill for this journal. After I fill the journal I will have to find some other unlined book that will no doubt be inferior. B & N's purchaser apparently is incapable of thinking into the future. Do not buy this if you do a lot of daily writing. After running out of pages, you will have a nice leather book cover for your $35 but you will not have quality paper on which to write. What a disappointment.

What a beautiful journal this is!! The cover ages like fine leather does...only being an avid writer, I filled the pages quickly. Imagine my disappointment when I learned that there are no refills available. Not good customer service, which is something I've always expected from B&N.
