Sisters-in-Law Create a Book
Patty Nelson, right, and Carolyn Cooper Smith, left, met in Wichita, Kansas, while attending high school. They soon became friends. Little did they know that they would end up being sisters-in-law and, writing and illustrating a book together.
Patty, a kindergarten teacher in Arizona foe eighteen years, loved working with younger children. She enjoyed creating fun ways to make learning interesting for her students. She also gave some workshops for school districts in the Phoenix area.
Carolyn, who lives in Colorado, began volunteering at a local school giving "chalk talks" for primary students using her art and story-telling skills. The students thoroughly enjoyed her visits to their classroom. Drawing while telling stories was new and exciting for the children.
Patty and Carolyn decided to put their skills together. Working long distance, through the mail, they created this book for teachers of primary grades. Patty wrote the curriculum while Carolyn created the art. They both hope that you and your students find this book helpful and that the activities described add fun top create a rewarding and memorable school year.
You, as a primary teacher, are "Setting the Stage" for a student's education so remember to.... have fun creating learning, and lasting memories for your students!
Words are powerful, choose your words carefully.
