Hostile Witness is filled with memorable characters, tense courtroom scenes, and riveting suspense. The storyline is solid, and ends with a bang. Josie is definitely a lawyer you'd want on your side. She has guts, tenacity, and a soft heart for the innocent. I see there are more books in this series, so I plan to pick up the next. This was an excellent mystery with lots of twists to keep you guessing.

Excellent!! Extremely well written with an intriguing storyline that has you turning the pages to see if you have figured the "who done it" part out! I will read the other books in this series. To me, writers fall into a few categories, some need to chose other hobbies, some are amateurish, some are just ok and some are professional. This writer is professional. This book was free but I will be paying for the next ones and will be getting my money's worth, I'm sure.

It seems I am going against the main tide of support for this courtroom thriller. I knew who did it early on so there was little surprise at the big revelation. The characters however were beautifully created with deep complex personalities. I genuinely liked the writing style and development but it was too obvious so many of the conversations felt pointless.

Hostile Witness is a very good, fast pasted book. It has a lot of twists and turns. It will leave you fascinated, and consumed in the plot. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads legal thrillers or even watches them on TV! I love legal thrillers and this one was especially good. It took me to another world and the story was great. This author is becoming my favorite along with Tom Clancy and Steven King and also Dean Coontz. Had to take time out of my busy schedule to give praise to where it is due and to let people know about this great writer. Hat’s off to Rebecca Forster! Stunning . . . a novel that comes to you out of the blue and manages to keep you reading feverishly until the whole thing is completed.

Josie Bates is an attorney who recently moved from the city to a smaller law practice.  Her last case in the city really took a toll on her mentally. She needed the time to rejuvenate.    When  Linda Sheraton-Rayburn showed up at her door, Josie knew it was bad news.  The two shared an apartment in college and she'd learned quickly Linda wasn't there to study books.  Now, Linda's daughter was in trouble. She'd been arrested for the murder of State Supreme Court Justice Fritz Rayburn. Justice Rayburn was well respected and adored by many.  Josie, however, wasn't sure she could take this case.  It meant putting her faith in the honesty of her client.  The last time she did that, children lost their lives.  Josie decides to take the leap of faith required and what a leap it is.  The more she learns about this case and the people it affects, the more sure she is she needs to give up the case.      Gritty and captivating, this book has a huge cast of characters and possible murderers.  The story is plotted out well and written in such a way it brings you right to the center of the action.  You can almost hear Josie's heart pounding in some parts.  Characters you'll love or love to hate make this a fantastic mystery.  Josie is a bring it or go home kind of woman, especially as an attorney, so it makes following her moves dangerous and exciting.  You'll be stuck in the center of this tornado and watching it swirl around. Just when you think you've figured it all out, WHAM! something new is added to the mix.      I found no issues with this one.      I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it ranks up there with the very best mysteries.   ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

This was my first Rebecca Forster book and it will surely be followed by others in the series. The author is a fabulous writer and the plot really flows. I'm astounded that anyone would give the book less than 5 stars!

I was taken in by Rebecca Forster's main character Hannah Sheraton right from the beginning. The further the plot progressed, the more I felt for this girl. As a teacher, I've seen students who struggle with "family baggage" and don't know how to process it. I've taught a couple of students who were cutters also. Rebecca Forster does a great job describing Hannah's self-destructive behavior. A couple of times I felt myself cringing as I read. Hannah's mother is a character that I found I loved to hate. Guilty or innocent, she has a lot of responsibility for Hannah's present situation. Enter Josie Baylor-Bates trial lawyer and "friend" of Hannah's mother. When Hannah is accused of killing her step-grandfather (who is also a big-time judge), Josie is called upon to help. Josie has her own baggage that leads to some of her decisions in Hannah's case. As the plot continues to twist and turn, the realization comes that by helping one person another may be destroyed. The question that weaves throughout the whole story is...who really deserves the help? Who really is the innocent party here? Is Hannah a murderer or a victim or both? Justice being served may well depend upon the Hostile Witness!

From the moment the book opened with 16-year-old Hannah Sheraton being processed into the women's prison, I was hooked. When Hannah's mother begs her old college roommate, Josie Bates, to defend her daughter, Josie is caught up in a complicated legal situation. Was this a simple case of a rebellious teenager acting out or was there an underlying reason for the girl's obsessive compulsive actions? These are the issues that Josie must uncover if she is to mount a credible defense for Hannah. Throughout the book, Ms. Forster teases you with snippets about Hannah, her mother, Linda Rayburn, and her aspiring politician husband, Kip. Each one of these characters is flawed in their own way and especially how they interact with each other, but the burning question throughout the book was did Hannah set that fateful fire. It's a roller coaster of emotions and it will keep you thinking about the relationships of mothers and daughter and father and sons long after you've finished reading the book. Highly Recommended.
