Overview

How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo

Written in her wonderfully honest, edgy, passionate and often hilarious voice, Tiffanie DeBartolo tells the story of Eliza Caelum, a young music journalist, and Paul Hudson, a talented songwriter and lead singer of the band Bananafish. Eliza's reverence for rock is equaled only by Paul's, and the two fall wildly in love.

When Bananafish is signed by a big corporate label, and Paul is on his way to becoming a major rock star, Eliza must make a heartbreaking decision that leads to Paul's sudden disappearance and a surprise knock-your-socks-off ending.

This is one of the best goddamn books I've ever read....and if this statement offends you, do not read this book. I am so thankful that almost nothing can offend me. I fell in love with these characters and the story, but the best part is the writing....wow. Some of the best writing I've read in a very long time - and I read A LOT. I'm a little bit depressed that Tiffanie DeBartolo now has a different career and doesn't seem to be writing anymore. This book was great.

This story was truly an emotional rollercoaster. I found myself so emotionally invested in story & lives of Paul & Eliza. Phenomenal is the word i would best use to describe this book. I look forward to the author's future work.

This book was published in 2005 and it somehow landed on my radar this year and boy am I glad it did! Written in a style reminiscent of the movie Almost Famous, it was gritty, emotional, funny and real. The two main characters Eliza and Paul are a perfect match, both neurotic artistic geniuses and totally in love with each other. Eliza, a music journalist lands the story of the century and gets a gig as a journalist for a fictional Rolling Stone like magazine. She moves to New York for the job, but also to be closer to her brother, Michael who happens to be a guitarist in a band called Bananafish. He has gotten married to her best friend and vacated the apartment they were living in with the lead singer, Paul Hudson. Eliza moves into their room at his place and it isn’t long before she and Paul are a couple and are working together to get Bananafish noticed. When Paul’s star is finally on the rise he is torn between the commercial direction his record label wants him to take and the grass roots direction he feels is more right for his music. Unfortunately, with a band relying on him to make money, he has to compromise on his dream. The characters in this book had so many issues! It was a struggle for them to deal with everyday life, then you throw these kinds of choices in front of them and there are bound to be mistakes, anger, and heartbreak and this story had plenty of all of that. All of that angst and pain was worth it for the great ending to this story. If you are like me and love rocker romances, you must pick up this book! If only for reading about people who have conversations instead of looking at their phones or conversing via text. So refreshing!

This is one of the best books I've ever read and is the reason I created a "favorites" shelf on goodreads. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll swoon and fall in love. A must read!

A Breath of Fresh Air!! OMG this book blew me away!! I really had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book. I was not sure if it was a murder mystery, a romance, a coming of age story or a musical story; but now that I am finished with it...I can honestly say that it is ALL OF THE ABOVE AND THEN SOME!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK!! This book was sheer brilliance on the part of Tiffanie DeBartolo!! I laughed and I cried like a baby while reading this book. Tiffanie DeBartolo did not just give us the same old Rocker Romance story with this one. She gave us something new, fresh and invigorating. Can I just say that I absolutely loved Paul and his unwillingness to compromise to such an extent that he did not know his own music anymore. Paul is what you would call a true believer. I absolutely adored Loring. Wow! What a great guy!! Paul and Loring were too very special men who I truly felt for. They deserved better. I also loved the other guys in Bananafish, and Tab and Vera and Queenie. Although Eliza ticked me off with her actions, I understood why she did it...whether I agreed with her or not!! All I have to say is that I highly recommend this book to anyone that has not read it. It is a breath of fresh air!! I truly thank Tiffanie DeBartolo for writing this wonderful book and sharing it with us readers.

I loved this book. I liked how the author dealt with fate destiny choices and life or death. There was a religious undertone throughout the book too which was interesting. The characters were well developed and i had a hard time putting it down to get to sleep. I recommend it to read.

I can honestly say this was the best book i have read in a long time. No words can describe it. The writing is superb and poetic. At times I was happy and then down right sad. I cried! The characters feel so real. No one is perfect or gorgeous like in so many other romance novels. They are just real and perfectly flawed. Best decision this week was reading this amazing story!

Great book! It was real, heart wrenching, engaging, full of passion and a love for music and how it can make you feel. A little Hollywood in the end but still great.

This book had it all-Angst, sex, love, and rock and roll. It wasn't predictable and the story was believable. I wish there was more to this story, but sometimes the author knows it is best to leave a story alone. This was one of those cases. Buy this book. You will not regret it.

But the plot is a weeeee bit hollywood-ish. DiBartolo has immense talent. She just didnt push herself to the max on this.
