Overview

A sexy warlock who's also a doctor. You'll love his bedside manner.

General Fitzhugh Colmain isn't your normal field operative. In fact, he's not a field guy at all. Instead, he's a member of the Magus Corps' medical branch, a surgeon who can manipulate chi. But the rumor of a witch with a rare talent has lured him from the healing covens.

Phoenix Brielle and her giant poodle, Anubis, have been working at the hospital for nearly a year. As an animal therapist, she takes him to visit patients, spreading her canine friend's love. But the hospital also gives her a unique opportunity. About the time she discovered Anubis, she started to revive the dead.

But as healer and necromancer get to know one another, jealous eyes watch from the periphery. The hospital's chaplain would do anything for Phoenix-absolutely anything.

My Disclaimer: I was provided a free copy of this book from the author’s newsletter. I am providing an honest review in which all opinions are fully my own. I am not being compensated in any way. ~ Judi E. Easley for Blue Cat Review My Review: ✭✭✭✭ I picked this book for its description, but the cover art didn’t seem to go with it. Somehow in my mind, that’s not the way I picture Dr. Colmain. Lucky girl, if that’s what he’s really built like, but it just doesn’t seem to fit what I read in the book. In the book, he seems a bit on the nerdy side. But I guess you can be a nerd and still be ripped. I just don’t know where he’s going to put his pocket protector. Nix was such a sad character in her poverty and isolation. And yet, she’s out helping others and taking care of her saved animals. She camouflages herself in baggy clothes and goth makeup so people won’t get too close or even look too closely. And she hasn’t a clue what she is or how to control her power. I think her name is so appropriate, Phoenix, Phoenix rises! And her giant poodle, Anubis. What a pair. The Sergeant Brother Templar’s turning cartwheels in his head thinking he’s having his own special holy day with her dropped into his lap. And then there’s the Professor. What a creepy guy. Thank heavens and the Magus Corps for Hugh! Parts of this didn’t quite fit together and didn’t seem likely, even in a fantasy novel. That’s why I docked it one star. I liked the story line and the two main characters, but I would have like to have gotten to know them a bit better. They’re like acquaintances, not friends. With eight other books in the series, I suspect there are some more pretty good stories in there. I’d definitely suggest fantasy readers try a few. Maybe not starting with the 8th one in the series, though they are all standalones. You don’t have to read them in order. Hazel Hunter has several other series and is a rather prolific author, so give her a try.

I loved this Dr. Fitzhugh Colmain came to Cedars-Sinai hospital for the Magus Corps to watch Phoenix. They think she is a rogue witch. Phoenix is a rare necromancer but she knows nothing about the wiccan world or that she is a witch. Then there is a pastor at the hospital who is not what everyone thinks he is. He's a templar but one who has been inaction for a long time. That doesn't stop him from making lots of trouble Wow this was a great story I really loved the characters. Hazel Hunter writes so awesome characters their so realistic Hugh is protective and hot. Phoenix is sweet and kind. The templar is a bit creepy but protective of phoenix since she saved his life If you love magic and action-packed stories this it one you will not want to miss! Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.

I think Hugh is terrific! He's sexy and intelligent. He looks at you as a person and not a thing. He is very discerning and gets right to your core. Phoenix is brave, generous, and cares deeply. I absolutely love their interactions, especially the steamy ones. They are so perfect together. Even though this is part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone, although I recommend you read the others as I really think you will enjoy them all. Hazel Hunter has a way of writing that is exciting and makes you feel as if you are involved in the story. Her descriptions are concise and help you actually visualize what's happening. I loved this story and recommend it highly. If you haven't yet, you really must start to read Hazel Hunter. I think they are wonderful books.

A ROGUE OR NOT? Hugh is the ninth book in the Her Vampire Protector series. This book is a short read. It is a standalone book without a cliffhanger. Violence and hot and steamy sex so definitely 18+. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. The two main characters in this book are Hugh and Phoenix. She has powers and he is sent in to assess her. Will she be found to be a rogue or does fate have other plans for them? I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.
