Overview

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julie Ann Walker comes an epic story about sacrifice, friendship, and the awe-inspiring power of love.

Maggie: Ten years ago, Cash Armstrong stole my heart. Then he promptly joined the army—dragging my best friend with him—and left me crying on the front porch in a red sequined prom dress. Now he's back. They're both back. Cash, the one who still has my heart. And Luc, the one who saved my life.

Cash: How do you know if you’re at the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end? That's what I've been trying to figure out since a traumatic brain injury made me "unfit to serve." I'm back in New Orleans, and picking up the shattered pieces of my past means I must confront where my life's journey began... and where it all might end.

Luc: Long ago, Maggie May was mine. Not mine in the way you might think. She was mine because she was my only friend. Then Cash came along and we became brothers by something stronger than blood. We became brothers by choice. When tragedy struck, I was forced to make a decision that changed all our lives. I thought, after ten years, it was safe to come back home. I was wrong...

This is the second book in this trilogy and if you didn't read the first book go read it first. You have to read these in the order designated or you will be lost! These are not standalone books. This one is more emotional and heartbreaking. Maggie May is still wearing her heart on her sleeve and Cash is becoming more of a wreck in his day-to-day. His brain injury is devastating and taking a toll. He is drinking to excess and losing weight and becoming abusive. Luc on the other hand is trying to be the go between for everyone and everything for everyone. There are forces in the background working against them and I am sure this is all going to come to a head in book three, especially since this one end on a cliffhanger! Book three, here I come... **Received this ARC for review**

In book two, it picks up from where book one left off. It is an amazing story of sacrifice, friendship and of course love. Laughed and cried as I read and the different points of view make it very gripping.

Book 2 gives us a look into the past, and Julie Ann Walker manages to pull you in and keep you there, providing answers to some questions, while still leaving you wondering if the truth will come out. Mystery, love, drama and great writing make leave you anxious for book 3

Volume 2 picks up where Volume 1 left off. Maggie gives the guys all the letters she wrote them each day for the first year after they left. These three's relationship picks up where it left off ten years prior but its like they are stuck in the past. Cash is out of control, he has let Maggie down time and again and is pushing her towards Luc but Maggie is still failing to see what is right in front of her. The sheriff has threatened Maggie and Luc with arrest in getting justice for his son's death who died on prom night. No one knows the full story to what happened, except Luc. With the threat of the sheriff hanging over their head they try to continue with a normal life as much as they can. While Cash keeps drifting and staying in the back of the story with his major pain and drinking. I am enjoying this trilogy so far. It is such a different approach for Julie than the BKI series and for me it took a little time to get used to but the further I get the more I like it. Received ARC from Julie Ann Walker in exchange for a voluntary honest review.

Now we get the history of Cash, Luc and Maggie. This is what I needed. I needed to know what happened all those years ago. I’m going to leave it at that; just know, you need this story! So many questions answered!!! Reviewed by: Dana D.

Memories can be a good thing, but along with the good memories we seem to bring along the bad ones as well. The past of their childhood is starting to unravel as Maggie, Cash, and Luc, deal with the love for each other and the secrets of what happened all those years ago. Others see the past differently than they do and are out to prove it. With the emotions and their past unraveling and waiting to be dealt with, the three of them will have their lives changed forever. Their story is one that will break your heart at times, but it is a story of genuine love between three friends growing up. Volumes must be read in order to understand the true meaning of the lives of Maggie, Cash, and Luc. I was gifted "In Moonlight and Memories:Volume Two". My opinion is voluntary and my own. 4.5 Stars!

This is a trilogy of books that takes us on a journey with the 3 main characters. What starts off seeming to be a love triangle, in reality it truly isn't. Part 1 gives us a lot of the back story and shows us where the characters are in their lives currently. Part 2 expands on that and starts laying the groundwork for how their future relationships may become. But it also highlights how much people can hurt along with the lengths they will go to in order to deal with them. Part 3...oh part 3. It may have broken my heart. But it also shows just how much someone can love other people and want to do what they know is right for them. I really don't want to go into a lot of details with the way this all plays out because I honestly feel like that will ruin the journey that these books take you on. Let me just say, be prepared with tissues in part 3. Because not only do events happen that will break your heart-they just show the depths that someone people feel and what they are willing to do for those people. I definitely recommend reading all 3 but just remember that this is a trilogy so the first 2 are left on cliff hangers although they are full length novels. Well worth the reads though!

Word to the wise: do NOT finish volume two just before it's time to go to work unless you want to be good for nothing for 8+ hours. You're killing me, Ms. Walker. Volume two of In Moonlight and Memories pulls the reader even further into Maggie, Luc, and Cash's world. It answers a (very few) questions that lingered from the first volume, but leaves you with even more--plus, a big ol' OMG I MUST FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, LIKE, YESTERDAY. Seriously, it's so very fortunate that Ms. Walker released these all at the same time. Well, except where my productivity is concerned... The relationship between Maggie, Cash, and Luc is even more triangle-y here--or is it?--and even though one of the three of them is causing more disappointment than anything else in this volume, I'm still finding myself torn over what I want to happen in the end. Though the events of the final chapters of volume two might make the question somewhat moot... Gah! Why must I work??? Rating: 4 stars / B+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Julie Ann Walker is one of my all-time favorite authors and her Black Knights series is one of my go-to reads when I want to revisit “old friends.” So, yes, I was anxiously awaiting this new series! Set in New Orleans where there is plenty of food, intrigue, love, and potential for corruption, the series follows a trio of friends from youth to adulthood. It’s a complicated story that my mind drifted to while I worked during the day as I read the first 2 volumes – where is this going? What will Cash do? How about Luc? What will Maggie think? What really happened that night? While I knew it would be a love story going into it, my initial thought when reading was that this felt like a tragedy. I felt such love and angst throughout all 3 volumes. I’m not going to lie, I stayed up into the early hours to finish the last one and I cried like a baby when it was over. Why would I do that? This book hit some triggers with me. I loved it and hated it at the same time. I guess Julie Ann Walker did what she was supposed to do – she told a very compelling story that does end with a HEA. Although it wasn’t my favorite series and my heart hurts just thinking about it, I know that life and love are complicated, and this story is symbolic of that. I gave it a 4-star rating because it just hit too many triggers for me to say I loved it. Well-written with authentic Louisiana flair and a little bit of lagniappe. I’m ready for some good coffee and an order of beignets! **I received an ARC and voluntarily submitted this review. Opinions are my own.

This is an epic journey of three friends. Their friendship and love spanned across time even when they were separated for ten years. Follow Luc, Cash and Maggie on their emotional journey as they handle their friendships, love, loss and mystery. These books are a spellbinding, emotional rollercoaster from the first book until the last. It was hauntingly beautiful.

The three volumes in Julie Ann Walker’s new trilogy In Moonlight and Memories are meant to be read together. The story flows seamlessly from one to another and together they are a complete whole. While I knew what was coming from the first sentence, it still wrecked me when we reached the inevitable conclusion. Told in alternating points of view (Cash, Maggie, and Luc) we see what all three of these characters are thinking and how they are all tied together. I felt in love with these characters, and the city that defines them. Be prepared with the extra-large box of tissues when you start book three, you’re going to need it. But keep reading, the end is worth it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Okay so volume 2 of M&M picks up with them as teenagers. Maggie is head over heels in love with Cash and he just broke her heart when he left. Poor Luc. (cue the tears) I was like, can't you see,it? He is right there in front of you! I was shouting at Maggie. It is so damn obvious who she should be with! Gah. My heart damn near broke into pieces for the guy. Such a good male. This is definitely getting so good, just like a slow burn with secrets and emotions all over the place. Lol. Just so freaking good! Onto the last and final volume. Yesssssss!!

WOW, is all I can really say. I'm so glad that I was able to read all 3 book at one time because I needed to know how the story was going to end. Ms. Walker will evoke every emotion from you in these books. The story is raw and will break your heart. It was such a great story. Loved it!

Book two of this series picks up Luc, Maggie and Cash's story and continues the complex emotional journey that readers are on with them. I thought that the tension, angst and suspense really increased in this book. From Luc's unrequited feelings, to Cash's accelerated behavior, to Maggie's seemingly desperate, blind devotion and persistence, you are kept anxious and perched on the edge of a breaking point. I felt that it was just impossible not to care about these characters and yet, my frustration, my anger and my fear for any of them to ever truly be happy grows. As compelling as it all is, I almost feel like I am watching some macabre, codependency dance of doom. I feel like tragedy is looming and yet.... I can't look away! I'm eager to see how it all ends in the last book.

This is a complicated, emotional & epic love story situated in New Orleans. Maggie & Luc have been best friends since childhood. Cash moves to New Orleans as a teenager, becomes best friends with Luc and through Luc, meets Maggie. Maggie & Cash Fall in love. Suddenly Cash joins the army & Luc follows him. Maggie is heartbroken as both boys have broken all contact with her and she doesn't understand why. Volume #2 - The love story continues with Maggie seeking answers and wanting to continue her love affair with Cash. Cash's brain injury leads to erratic behavior and at times his behavior towards Maggie is hurtful and frustrating. Luc defends Cash's behavior while secreting loving Maggie. Details of a past tragedy come to light and Maggie finally figures out Cash's secret. Volume 3 follows. These books are unlike anything Julie has ever written, but she has written a powerful & epic love story that demands to be read! I received a complimentary ARC edition from Julie Ann Walker.

The history of the characters of this book is amazing. I've enjoyed reading the letters to Cash and Luc that Maggie wrote that are featured in this volume. I still have so many questions, but I'm enjoying the journey. They've had some interesting and fun adventures, some trying moments, plus old love and new love. FYI - this volume ends on a cliffhanger so be prepared to gasp and gape like a fish out of water. I'm writing this review as I'm dying to start the final volume to see what happens.

The continuation of Cash, Maggie and Luc's story delivered what I expected: deep, strong emotions and heart-felt sorrow. It is as if the chemistry of our hormones are the ingredients to Julie Ann Walker's recipe. She's stirring and cutting and blending our emotions into a delicate and masterfully cooked dish that's already smelling so enticing that I can't wait to eat it up in book 3.

Volume Two picks right up from where Volume One leaves off. Every chapter in Cash or Luc’s point-of-view starts off with a letter from Maggie May. I thought that was a sweet touch of the authors. It gives insight to how Maggie was as a teenager, missing her two friends. The past is quickly catching up with the trio. Even though the three have some dissension between them, they manage to band together to protect each other. They refuses to sacrifice the other. I admire that about the three. Pretty much the story is unfolding how I predicted it would. I am still not invested in the story or the characters. I never really did like love triangles. They are just not my cup of tea, especially in stories.

NOTE: My review covers all three volumes VOLUME #1 IN MOONLIGHT AND MEMORIES Volume 1 by Julie Ann Walker introduces some of the back story, history and present day struggle of three friends in New Orleans, Louisiana: twenty six year old, Magnolia ‘Maggie’ May Carter, and twenty-eight year olds, Cassius ‘Cash’ Armstrong, and Lucien ‘Luc’ Dubois. Told from three first person points of view (Maggie, Cash and Luc) IN MOONLIGHT AND MEMORIES follows twenty six year old, Magnolia ‘Maggie’ May Carter, and twenty-eight year olds, Cassius ‘Cash’ Armstrong, and Lucien ‘Luc’ Dubois as they reconnect in the aftermath of ten years of silence in which Maggie Carter never stopped wondering what happened and why. Ten years earlier, Maggie and Cash were high school sweethearts but on the night of the prom, Cash disappeared without a trace leaving Luc Dubois to pick up the pieces of Maggie’s heart. Fast forward to present day wherein Green Berets Luc and Cash return from serving several tours in the Middle East but Cash is but a shell of his former self. What ensues is the rekindling but fragile friendship between Cash, Maggie and Luc, as they meander a minefield of memories, past betrayals, and the possibility of losing one another, all over again. Julie Ann Walker’s new series of books “In Moonlight and Memories” is a masterpiece. The set of three books is a love story to and about New Orleans. I always wanted to visit there and now I feel like I just did through reading her stories of the city and its people and customs. These books are also a love story about Maggie, Luc, and Cash. They first met in school and their love for each other carries them through adulthood. Luc and Cash disappear from Maggie’s life on the night of prom and don’t show back up until ten years later. True love never disappears and it didn’t here either. What a journey these stories will take you on. Just make sure you have a box of Kleenex at the end. You will need it. I loved this story so much. Wish there was a higher rating than 5 stars. Make sure you read all three volumes for the complete story

The second volume of this epic tale continues to weave the mystery surrounding the young lives of these three friends and the consequences they could face as adults. They have re-established their unbreakable bond and work together to try to remove the predators who are determined to break them. The pieces of the past and the ongoing mystery are coming together albeit with some additional hardships, but Maggie, Luc and Cash are determined to find a satisfactory outcome for them all. However the road is hard and their love and friendship is tested time and time again with no-one being happy with the feelings that are constantly being brought to the surface. I can't wait to complete the final volume of this masterpiece by Julie Ann Walker. NOT only for some sort of HEA, which I'm not convinced will come to fruition, but also for the mystery to be solved and justice to be SERVED! And so to the third, and final volume!

More! This Second Volume picks up where Volume One leaves off with Cash and Luc, former U.S. Army Green Berets, returning to NOLA after serving multiple tours and being gone from Maggie’s life for ten long years. They are civilians now and no longer gangly boys but hard muscled, fully grown, HOT, seasoned warriors. Cash has bought a run down cottage to while away the hours fixing it up with the help of Luc. Maggie is more than surprised, secretly pleased, but also very hurt that they came back with no warning and act like they expect to pick up where they left off. Over time, the reasons why they left and never communicated are slowly revealed but certain details and memories, better left in the past, are now immediately in their present needing attention. I love the details of Maggie’s every day life as they are described in colorful moments in her bar, on her balcony and with her Aunts. I love her Aunts! They seem like the proper “Southern Bells” one reads about in historic sagas, throwing wonderful parties and teas, proper manners, coming from “old money” and deep societal influence. I love how they took Maggie and her sister in when their parents were killed in hurricane Katrina, loving and guiding them as if they were their own. Nicely grown up and no longer afraid, it’s heartbreaking how Cash still has to deal with his mean, abusive father, enduring his anger and his physical blows. No longer the gangly, pitchy, boy with acne, Luc has grown up and filled out into a very hot, gorgeous man with a quiet, commanding presence giving Maggie reason to look at both as men and not the boys of their youth. As Sheriff Sullivan is still vigilant with his harassment, all three feel the past quickly catching up with them and the mystery surrounding what happened in the swamp all those years ago keeping their nerves on edge and Maggie nervously ready to spill the truth. NOLA seems like a different world where there is no hustle and bustle like the larger cities, everything takes on a slow and lazy way about it. Charming and friendly on the outside, given the right circumstances, danger and ugly darkness can live right around the corner. This story is an emotional telling that grips your heart, steals your breath and throws both right back at you. Mysterious in its secrets, intense in its feelings and heartfelt in the love and support of friends and family, this story ramps up the ugly intent of the sheriff’s pursuit of his own brand of justice and the fierce meanness of Rick towards his son. We learn that the bayou has its beauty but also has its secrets which will thrill you as they spill out when you least expect it. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The story picks up immediately where our previous book ended. And it is just as enchanting as the previous book. The suspense in this one, it grows, it builds, and it crashes down on us at the very end. We fall for our characters even more. Ache with them, and hurt with them. We feel their moments of joy, the times of hurt, and the confusion of attraction Maggie, Luc, and Cash are stumbling forward with each other. Unsure, but committed to each other. Maggie has to face some harsh realities, experience some personal pain, and let go of the guilt she still harbours. It is a transformation, personal growth, and self-awareness. She doesn’t change her feelings, she adjusts them, to be in alignment with the now, not the then Maggie, Luc, and Cash are on a crash course with their past and presents intertwining, and hoping they survive the moment!

Volume Two of this incredible story advances Maggie, Cash, and Luc’s love triangle. It was in this volume that the meat of where this is going started to make sense to me. We see Maggie’s emotional growth, and insecurities, we start to see where Cash is heading, and through it all Luc is steadfast to both.
