Overview

Into the Fire (Compass Boys Series #2) by Mari Carr, Jayne Rylon

James Compton is a man with his feet firmly planted in two different worlds. Six months out of the year, he's Seth's oldest boy, working with his family and the horses on Compass Ranch. The other half, he's Jamie, a daring smokejumper on the West Yellowstone Squad. Those two halves have always made him feel complete, happy, satisfied. Then he meets his boss's daughter, Ivy...

Ivy Wagner recognizes the irony that is her life. With her college degree in hand, she is ready to embark on her career as a large animal vet. Add to that, the attentiveness of a very sexy James Compton and her future should be all sunshine and steamy shared showers. However, a devastating loss in Ivy's past has ensured she will never date a smokejumper...no matter how perfect James is for her.

As James and Ivy grow closer, it's clear they're both headed toward a day of reckoning. Ivy can't lose anyone else she loves to the wild fires that rage and James isn't sure he's capable of giving up a vital part of himself, of living half a life.

When someone close to James dies, the pair are forced to face their demons and figure out what to let go and what to fight for.

Like father, like son, but still his own person. We get the story of James, son of Seth, named for his granddad's James and Thomas, and fighting to get out from under the shadow and be his own person. He starts out on the wrong path, but is quickly set straight and finds peace in splitting time between being home and being on his own All of that stops when he meets Ivy, and while she can easily fit into his home, and his own, she can't escape the pain associated with his own away from home. It makes him think, re-evaluate, and make some choices for himself, not Ivy, not his dad, but for James All these Compton's are sweet and sexy, and James is no exception, and he meets his perfect match in Ivy!

This is book 2 in the Compass Boys series and it features James and Ivy. Half rancher and half smokejumper, James thought he had it all figured out. He thought his life was perfectly balanced. That is until he met Ivy. Because of a past tragedy Ivy didn’t date smokejumpers… EVER! I love those strong bullheaded female characters. This is a sweet romance that’ll break your heart a few times, so keep those tissues close. Along with the heartbreak there’s a lot of sizzle and some pretty amazing family time going on. This is a great story line with awesome characters! This is my first Compass book and now I need to go back and read all the previous books in the each of the Compass series.

**Received ARC for a fair and honest review** Into the Fire is the second book in the Compass Boys series, this could be read as a standalone, however it is best read in order IMHO. I'd rate this book at 5 stars!! I loved this book, from beginning to end it kept me interested, no lagging, and no unnecessary extra filler or repetition. This book has just the right amount of storyline, little bit of humor, action, drama and romance. If you are familiar with the other Compass series, you will get to see some of those characters in the book, which I love! This book will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, you may want a box of kleenex handy also. I really enjoyed the characters. Loved Ivy/Scout/Doc and James/Jamie/Cowboy, they had great chemistry and there was definitely just the right amount of hot and steaminess going on! Loved the sub-characters in the book, and really liked Ivy's dad Roscoe. I had a hard time putting this book down. I'm thinking it will probably be my favorite of all of them, but will have to see when the next stories come out, which I can't wait for!!! Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!

I’m really loving the Compass Boy series by Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon and their newest release, Into the Fire is sure to be another hit. What woman could resist sexy James Compton who likes a little kink when giving pleasure? Ivy Wagner is the lucky woman who has stolen his heart but will she let fear get in the way? I really liked that James and Ivy actually became friends as their relationship developed and were there for each other when it mattered most. As always, I enjoyed when all the Compass Boys interacted with one another and the deep bond they shared. It was great seeing the rest of the family again and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

I've read many books, by both of these authors, including all of the other Compass books.  You could probably even say I'm a die hard fan.  I'm quite honored to receive an ARC of this book, with the opportunity to read and review prior to its official release. As with all of the books by both authors, this book is HOT!  But the underlying story is filled with drama, hurtful pasts, and a sense of family that is undeniable.  This isn't just a story about falling in love, its a story about growing up, finding yourself, and finding your place within that awesome family.  Through copious tears, and the occasional fit of laughter, Jamie and Ivy find each other, resolve some deep dark issues, and find what is truly important in life. Jamie is a man who, like most of the other Compton men, left home to find his place in the world, to figure out who he was outside of Compton Pass.  He finds something that makes him happy, makes him feel useful.  Ivy is a woman with a traumatic past, that she hasn't quite healed from.  She's living her life, moving forward, but still doesn't seem to be whole. I love Jamie's determination, and confidence in how perfect he and Ivy are for each other.  He treats her like she is a treasure, while still staying true to who they both really are inside.  I love his sense of humor, and how they can laugh together, even during serious situations. I can't help but feel empathy for Ivy and how her past affects her.  More than once, while reading, I found myself tearing up, because of how raw her feelings are. This is a beautiful story, an amazing addition to the Compass world.  I can't wait to see what this duo has in store for the next book in the series!
