Vance (1879-1933) was an American novelist best remembered for creating the character Michael Lanyard, otherwise known as The Lone Wolf, a jewel thief turned private detective, who appeared in a series of novels, many of which were adapted for film. This novel with a New York theatrical setting was first published in 1913.
