In Provence, pétanque is much more than just a game: it is a true way of life. Born in La Ciotat in 1907, pétanque owes its origin to Jules Hugues, known as "Lenoir," a champion of Provençal games who, afflicted by paralyzing rheumatism, could no longer run before throwing.
