Let's do a calendar, they said. It'll be fun, they said.
Well, they—I.e. Kilgore Police Department's public relations specialists—were wrong.
Now, every time Dax Tremaine walks around a corner, the women of Kilgore, Texas can't help calling him Mr. January.
Mr. January, can you fix my flat tire? Mr. January, can you cuff me? Mr. January, can you sign my boob?
It goes from bad to worse when even on a SWAT call, the women won't stay away.
It was the worst time of her life. Rowen Roberts had finally admitted to herself that the man she loved would never love her back. She was just fired from her job for violating client confidentiality, and to make matters worse, she's held up at gunpoint in a convenience store where she only wanted some ice cream to help mask the pain.
The moment the gun is pressed to her forehead, she knows she has a decision to make. Follow the rules and maybe possibly live, or go down swinging where at least she can salvage just a little bit of her dignity.
And when Mr. January himself tells her to do what the gunman says, she's had enough. Rowen has never really been a girl that does what she's told. Mr. January won't have to save her. She can dang well save herself.

Mr. January starts the SWAT 2.0 off with a hot and solid start. plus you get glimpses of the books to come. Dax is perfect for Rowen. Plus it's great to hear about what's happening with their parents. A classic Lani Lynn Vale book. A great series start. Now the wait until February.

it's enjoyable...to a point. in chapter 19, Rachelle says it stems from Rowen divulging info in a public place, I had to shake my head. um, no - the storyline in chapter 12 was the conversation happened in private in front of their duplex.it feels like the author is now just rushing to print on her books and it's showing up as mistakes that take away from the story

Love everything she writes! I've read all her books and look forward to every new release day. So awesome to see the kids of the characters I love all grown up and getting their own hea!

It's disappointing when the character history changes in the book. If anyone has read these series you know that the parental characters know each other and therefore the children are familiar with other. This was even demonstrated early on in the book, but by the last third Dax's parents have no idea who Rowen and her folks are even tho Max helped her earlier in the book.

Once again Lani Lynn Vale failed to disappoint! This book makes the characters so believable and like able that you can't help but feel you know them. So worth buying and even reread. Now I just preorder anything she writes because I know that I will enjoy the book. I love how she writes about police officers and firefighters and their lives. They are hero's but also are human like the rest of us.

This was a funny book and had me laughing throughout. The husband and wife lawyers and their kids were fantastic .

The storyline jumped all over the place. The swearing was way over the top. I can't even imagine using the f word repeatedly in front of my parents like Rowen did. I did like the humor between the siblings .

Just Kidding by Lani Lynn Vale is the first book in her SWAT Generation 2.0 series. Focusing on the younger members of the Kilgore Police Departments SWAT team this book is Dax Tremaine and Rowen Roberts’ story. Rowen is doing the best she can but as an intern in a San Antonio law firm and with a hostile coworker she has had just about enough. When hostile coworker takes things so far beyond the limits of too far Rowen realizes it time to go home to Kilgore. Despite his in personal demons Dax agrees to e part of a fundraising calendar. As Mr. January he also gets to go first. Taking the chiefs daughter with him as a favor is the least he can do. Especially when she’s as much in need of a break as anyone could be. Between Rowen’s strength and kindness and Dax’s sweet and patient outlook these two hit it off big time. There are, of course, a few hiccups along the way, but between his horrible ex and her horrible ex coworker there is enough drama to keep the story fast paced, a little shocking, and filled with the awesome insta-love I have come to expect from a Lani Lynn Vale story. Enjoy!

Lani Lynn Vale....what can I say...I didn’t like it. She has it in her to write great books with well developed characters, ie the motorcycle club books but she seems to be resting on her laurels with this one. If you have read all of her other books before like the Free series you may get small enjoyment from this mere glimpse into the children of Max and Luke but it is only a glimpse. I wanted to see the fire from her first works with a completely interesting storyline and I didn’t get it. Please Lani, with your next release add in more details with more original issues to challenge the characters.

A lot of eye rolling. It was like the chsracters were teenagers and the only thing missing was they didn't say "whatever". plot skipped around like LLV just wrote down her random thoughts.

I love getting to know the kids from. the original series, and I love how they interact with each other from different series. It feels like "coming home" yet it is still fresh and hilarious. Another five star read from Lani Lynn Vale that made me not want to put it down and if work hadn't interfered then I would have finished this in a matter of hours versus days!

The next generation is going to knock your socks off! With the first book in her new KPD SWAT Generation 2.0 spin-off series, Lani Lynn Vale is sure to delight with JUST KIDDING. The characters are fun, the humor and heart of the story are addictive and the HEA is spot on. Rowen weaves her way into our heart from the very start because we've all been there with a guy that just wasn't into us ... am I right? From the moment we watched her decide to walk away from her mega-crush, we knew she was going to be a stand out. Dax is a serious guy with a past that left scars, but the second he lays eyes on Rowen, he's blown away. Watching this mighty guy fall was the ultimate! I recommend this book to anyone loving a tight group of friends and family who aren't shy about loving hard. So many familiar faces here if you've read LLV before. I'm looking forward to all the goodness to come with this series!

I fell in love with the KPD Swat books and the kiddos...they are all grown up in the best way ever! These books are the best of two worlds where we have are favorite Swat guys that we loved but we also have all new guys to fall for. Dax is built, sexy and tattooed and his heart is all for Rowen. Rowen really put up with some crazy stuff before she moved back to Kilgore. She may have left a bad situation but she’s no scared little mouse. I love her strength and willing to stand up for the people she loves. Great steamy book in this new series!

I have read other books by this author and really enjoyed them, and this one was no different! I loved so much about the main character, Rowen, so much about her was just like me! Her attitude towards alcohol, as well as how she felt about having things on her head like hats, wigs, etc. I loved the different headings in each chapter as well, although at one point I did have to go Google what it suggested in one of them. Which was hilarious, even if it wasn't completely true. Rowen and Dax were a great couple. You felt so much for her after what she'd been through, and you totally wanted to punch both her bully as well as Dax's high school ex-girlfriend. I loved the whole watching the scary movie together, and while I prefer to watch on a tv, I could see how a laptop might be a fun comfy and somewhat sexy experience as well! I know that I want to read more in this series as well as maybe go back for some of the ones I haven't read from the original SWAT books!

Already loving this new spin-off series. So this series will reunite you with some of your favorite characters from before. But you can certainly read this as a standalone. I absolutely adored Dax and Rowen. Rowen is one of those characters that you wish you could be. She owns it and when you rile her up - man I loved when she was telling people off. Dax is "Holy hotness, Batman" - yeah that sums it up. He's hot, he's a cop, he's S.W.A.T. and did I mention hot and also Mr. January. Hello - where is this calendar?! "Dax would never leave me wanting more. He'd make sure that I got enough and keep making sure of that until he had nothing left to give." Rowen has some real jerks in her life, so Dax enters at just the right time. He sees the beautiful woman within and their chemistry is combustible. While the ending gets a little squirrely - I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn't really put it down once I started. I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy and I can't wait for more!!

I was so afraid that the new Swat guys were not going to be able to compete with the hotness that was the OG KPD Swat. I was so afraid, that my very favorite author wasn't going to be able to maintain the level of perfectness that was deserved by the ones to inherit the mantle of Luke Roberts, and his guys. I mean, that is a really high level of amazingness that she is trying to follow up on. Is it possible? I'm happy to report that she did it! The first book of the SWAT Generation 2.0 series is just as amazing as the Originals! Rowen has had a lot of happiness, as well as a lot of not so happy, in her life. Her birth father was no prize, and caused a lot of heartache (as we learned in Center Mass, Reese and Luke's book) But afterward, she had the perfect example of everything she should expect from a man, and how she should expect to be treated by that man. But that still doesn't keep away the crazies! Dax takes one look at Rowen, even at her worst, and knows that she is worth everything. She is what he needs in life, what he wants, he just has to convince her of that. And then he has to convince everyone else of that. including the crazies! Dax and Rowen together are a hoot! I couldn't help but laugh at their interactions. The were everything I could have wanted for the beginning of this series, and so much more! I'm so excited about this series, and I've enjoyed the other "kids" books that have come before it. And I just know that there are some really amazing books that are going to come from these new swat guys! This series promises to be explosive, and Just Kidding is a fantastic introduction to a whole new generation of Hot, Loving Swat guys!

A new generation of SWAT is here! Just Kidding is a slow burn romance, filled with lots of supportive characters, and a story with twists and turns. Rowan Roberts is the daughter to the SWAT chief and sister to a SWAT team member as well, so she is no stranger to this world. When she moves back to Kilgore after being bullied by an ex-coworker her life changes for the better when she runs into Dax Tremaine, a member of SWAT, who not only gives her a reference for a job, but also becomes her new neighbor. Her life is definitely looking up, that is until the bully who ruined her life shows back up. Dax was burned by an ex-girlfriend a long time ago so he doesn't trust very easily, but something about Rowan speaks to him. Even though she's the little sister of his teammate and probably even more so that she's the daughter of his boss he should probably stay away, but he just can't. Their easy friendship blossoms into something more and he's not about to stop the freefall from happening. Dax and Rowan's chemistry builds and builds until it finally sizzles and they can't stay away from each other. Even as they come upon obstacles they stick together and overcome them as a team. I also love that they don't let others come between them and that their family, whether by blood or team members, are always at the forefront.
