About the Author

Debra Doxer was born in Boston, and other than a few lost years in the California sunshine, she has always resided in the Boston area. She writes fiction, technical software documents, illegible scribbles on sticky notes, and texts that get mangled by AutoCorrect. She writes for a living, and she writes for fun. When her daughter asks when she’ll run out of words, her response always is, “When I run out of time.”

Very good book couldn't put it down

Rating 3.5/5 stars I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. I'd seen it on a few blogs and when I was offered it for review from AToMR as an advanced review; I figured I'd scoop up the opportunity. I really like this book. I think it falls more into the Young Adult Category, which isn't my normal genre - but for a book in this genre I thought it was great. The opening chapter is quite intense emotionally - I'm not sure what I would do walking in and finding my Mom dead in the kitchen, then to find out I have an older brother and a family I never knew about would be quite overwhelming (Including the fact that your brother has been trying to get custody of you for about 2 years). Characters: 3.5/5 Debra created some really wonderful characters that were easy to love and connect with.  Raielle - Ray is sweet and normal (besides her secret), even with her messed up and unstable past. I like her because she is nice and doesn't have issues or hang ups. Yes, she does keep everyone at a distance and believes she doesn't deserve love and anything good, but she doesn't throw pity parties or tantrums. Ray is strong for a 17 year old girl.  Myles - Myles becomes Ray's first friend when she arrives to live with her brother. I like him - He is sweet, cool and fun.  Lucas - I like Lucas, even though he is the popular guy every girl wants, which in stereotypical circumstances would make him a jerk, but he isn't - he thinks before he speaks and is very observant. He isn't perfect and that makes me adore him even more, plus he has a gentlemanlike manner about him - like when he opens the door for Ray, every single time.  Kyle & Chloe - I accept Kyle but I really don't like Chloe. Kyle really wants to help Ray, and give her a home. I can understand why Chloe is the way she is but I feel she is not understanding, and just caught up in her own problems, and a typical housewife-next-door-gossip. She judges Ray before even giving her a chance, and never accepts her truly, even when Ray proves her wrong on so many levels.  Penelope - is Kyle & Chloe's young daughter. She is just the cutest and sweetest little girl. My heart just aches when she offers to be Ray's sister, and to 'share her mommy' since Ray doesn't have one anymore. She is just one little bundle of sunshine.  Plot, Pace, Writing style: 4/5 The plot has a medium depth - not too in-depth, yet not shallow either. Debra has a writing style which is easy to follow and can draw you into the story easily. The pace is perfect and the story has enough twists to keep your attention.  Cover & Title talk: 3/5 The cover is OK - It is not exactly eye catching but maybe it does fit the blurry world Ray sometimes gets caught in. The title caught me more than the cover. I thought maybe the title indicating a bit more action but could see where it might come from in the story.

Before I talk about the book, can I just talk about the cover? It's so eerie and freaky and kinda beautiful. I freaking love it. Keep You From Harm was unexpected in many ways. I honestly didn't realize ahead of time that there was a paranormal aspect to it. I love that that took me by surprise. I also didn't realize how much I was getting all in one package. It's like a a three-fer. It's a little contemporary romance, a little paranormal and a little crime/mystery. What a fun combination. Raielle is sent to live with the brother she never knew she had after her mother is murdered. Not used to having anything - love, food, companionship - it's a bit of a tough transition. Luckily, she is able to make a few friends, which help. And then there's Lucas - the hottest guy in school who runs very hot and cold when they're together. To complicate matters, Raielle has a unique ability to heal injuries of all types. It's both a blessing and a curse, as she's about to find out. Raielle and Lucas are pretty awesome characters. Raielle doesn't trust easily, with good reason. It makes it all that more challenging for Lucas to get close to her. She is strong and resilient, and that shows through in the decisions she makes. With her healing ability, she gives of herself without thought or consequence, but if an injury is going to eventually take a life, she has to walk away. I really loved Lucas. He's a guy who tries to do the right thing. He's got it bad at home, which colors his views of others. Many in the town are suspicious, and even fearful, of him. And, yet, he keeps his head down, gets good grades and plays on the local baseball team. Lucas is determined and really brave. You put these two together, and they have some pretty amazing qualities between them. But, a relationship between them isn't easy. There's so much push and pull. Stop and start. And stop. And start. Lucas would react a certain way, and Raielle would shut him down because she didn't like his reaction and was afraid to unguard her heart. Raielle would do something, and Lucas would misinterpret it and push her away. It was a vicious and frustrating circle. The lack of communication between these two was staggering for awhile. But, once they got it together, the romance was so sweet. I really loved the paranormal aspect. Raielle's healing abilities were pretty cool. I like that there were limits placed on her and what she could do. Power without consequence is always so annoying. The mystery woven into the story was a good addition too. We're trying to find out who killed Raielle's mother and what that has to do with the bigger picture. The culprit wasn't too surprising, but the motives were. There were times in the middle where the story seemed to stall just a little. I got a little tired of all the back and forth between Raielle and Lucas. But, the beginning started off with a bang and the ending was super exciting. Keep You From Harm was a fantastic paranormal with a sweet romance and a dose of freak out.Give it a try.

The cover for this book absolutely drew me in. The synopsis sounded fascinating. I’m pleased to say the book itself absolutely lived up to the cover and the blurb. Unique and unpredictable, this book was impossible to put down. “Emotions are dangerous. So are expectations.” When Raielle discovers her mother’s body, she’s heartbroken. When the police officers who arrive tell her that her brother is on his way, she’s shocked. She didn’t know she had a brother. It was just one of the many secrets her mother kept from her. Of course, Raielle is keeping her own secrets, too. She and her mother possessed the same magical ability that allowed them to heal the injured or sick with a simple touch. But their gift comes with rules and exceptions, as well as the potential for danger if anyone finds out. So, as Raielle moves across the country with her brother to join the family she never knew she had, she is determined to keep her secret. When she first arrives in New York, she sets eyes on a gorgeous and mysterious guy at her neighbor’s house. She becomes fast friends with the neighbor, Myles. He’s a closeted gay guy who is friends with some of the most popular people in their school. (Very progressive, this school, apparently.) I loved Myles. It was nice to see a gay character in a book that wasn’t a total stereotype. The mysterious guy is Lucas, one of the most sought-after guys at her new school. Because of her looks and her new girl status, Raielle gets a lot of attention from her new classmates, some of it more positive than others. After one of them confronts her about talking to her boyfriend, Lucas rescues her… and then walks away. He’s hot and mysterious and catches her attention. He’s also friends with Myles and they share a number of classes, so they keep getting thrown together. “I wonder if my physical reaction to him will ever approach something close to normal.” The more time Raielle and Lucas spend together, the stronger the spark, the attraction they share grows. Raielle knows nothing good can come from opening up to him, despite his efforts to be there for her. Lucas is confused by her. He’s used to girls throwing themselves at him. That’s not Raielle’s style. One night as they’re hanging out at a club, Raielle spots a guy that she’s sure she saw outside her old home in California. When she tries to talk to him, he disappears and she tries to find out information about him from one of his bandmates, a total manwhore that she goes to school with. This starts off the gossip mill – and Lucas’ jealous streak. It gave him a little kick in the butt to make a move. They admit their feelings and thus starts their relationship. They’re both keeping secrets, but those are bound to come out with time, too. “You keep saving me from rabid blondes,” I tell him. “You keep pissing them off,” he answers. I adored Raielle and Lucas together. For two people who appeared to have it together, they were both broken and finding each other helped. After an “accident” in which Lucas’ arm is broken, Raielle can’t help but heal him. It’s then that the secrets start to come out and they find the connection between their families might ruin what they have now. A series of realizations and events is set in motion, complete with a heartbreaking twist that took my breath away and a cliffhanger that left me desperate for more. But, don’t get me wrong. This story isn’t all about Raielle and Lucas’ romance. It seems that nearly every character is keeping a secret – some significantly more dangerous than others. There were moments in this book where I was on the edge of my seat, not even coming close to guessing what would happen next. The character development in this book was great. It goes without saying that I connected with Raielle and Lucas (swoon), but the secondary characters were nearly as fantastic. I already mentioned Myles. Raielle’s other close friend, Gwen, was fantastic as well. In Myles and Gwen, Raielle had two wonderful friends. I liked that in this book, the characters nor their actions, were completely stereotypical. Raielle’s group of friends was rather diverse – personalities and people you wouldn’t normally see as friends, but it seemed natural in this book. In addition to the suspenseful moments, there were sweet ones that make me sigh, and one sexy scene that was truthfully more NA than YA, in my opinion, but it was tasteful. The story sucked me in and didn’t let go until I finished the last page. Have I mentioned I can’t wait for the sequel?! What a cliffhanger. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All quotes come from the review copy and may differ from the final version.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review This book was not what I was gone expect to be, and I am so glad that glad that I got read it, I felt in love with the characters and how this story has it twist. Reading this book I have to say that it had me in an emotional roller coaster. I cried, laugh and it got me a little angry at some point but I love every single of it, I am gone keep this short since I don’t want to give anything away. Keep you from harm this is the best title for this book because it’s exactly what this book is about. The story starts with Raielle coming home from school, and finds her mother seating down in front of the kitchen table, that’s when her life change and that’s when she learns that she has a brother. now her brother Kyle has being trying to get custody of her for the last two years and now he finally have it, Kyle take Raielle back home and she finds out that she has a family that she never knew that she had. Raielle was born with a gift or is it a cursed? This gift/ cursed runs in her family her mother and grandmother have it too. Now she is in a new place start in a new school and trying to stay away from everyone, except she can’t stay away from Lucas. Lucas it’s hard to resist and most girls at school aren’t resisting him, he is good looking and he is only interesting in one person and that’s Raielle, but Lucas is also trying to stay away from her and his mood is always changing from hot to cold but he can’t not ignore the magnetism that is going on between them too. I really liked it how this to fell in love and how they care for each other I love it how Lucas is always trying to protect Raielle and how he doesn’t give up on her and on what he feels for her, this is a beautiful story and I really enjoy it. I want to thank Author Debra Doxer for introducing me to this amazing characters and this awesome book. And I hope that when you get to read it to enjoy it and love it as much as I did.

Raielle, has kept a secret about her unique ability. She has inherited this from her mom. When her mom dies, she is thrown into a new life and discovers she has an older brother eager to take her in. What Raielle doesn’t know is that the secret of her ability is just the start of secrets. There is so much more.  When Raielle meets Lucas, sparks fly. They are two magnets from the moment they meet. Because of Raielle’s past she is not eager in fessing up to the feeling she gets around Lucas. She has always learned to keep her emotions and feelings away. Yet, when she is near Lucas all she wants to do is FEEL. Their connection is undeniable, intense, and passionate. She later finds out that Lucas also has a secret and that they are connected in ways they never thought possible. The writing was outstanding. Brilliant and addicting, Keep You From Harm is a MUST read for those who love Paranormal Romance. I consider myself a true contemporary romance lover, but because of this book I am having a MAJOR book hangover and I need more! I cried, I laughed, I cheered everyone on. These characters are so memorable and will stay with me for a very long time. Every single character in this book added to this story in many ways. The ups and downs of this book was unbelievable. Just when you think the secrets are all out, there’s more. I have a feeling we have no idea what we’re in for in the next book, and I cannot wait!  Although this story is far from over, I am so glad I read it. I have fallen in love with paranormal romance all over again! Debra Doxer. I was a fan when I read your contemporary, but you have sealed the deal now! I am forever a fan of yours! Despite the cliffhanger, I know the wait will be worth it. This beautiful story about love and secrets is both powerful and fascinating. 5++++ stars!!
