Luther Hades has always been my family's sworn enemy. He's the opposite of everything we stand for—ruthless to the core.

I want my freedom, but Hades wants me. And I've walked straight into his trap.

There has to be a way out of his fortress of a mansion. I'll get away—I have to. Even if it costs me everything.

And it will cost me everything: my body, my soul...and my heart.

Noooo you so can not leave me hanging like this Definitely would not call this a romance - a 'lustmance' though - absofrickinloutely! This is an insta- capitulation story - normally that doesn't work for me - But with Persephone and Luther, it felt natural. As the story progressed I found myself curious more involved it was the little things - Random thoughts Simple acts That drew me in had me wanting to peak ahead just to reassure myself - I didn't though but it was tempting I'm still trying to figure out Luther's weakness - besides Persephone - He has everything a man(?) could want but for what Demeter can provide him, which I think I know but it doesn't fit, has me at a loss. His character seems empty void of empathy, but if that was true what about Conor? Persephone, on the other hand, is just a hormone-driven little nymph. She reminds me a bit like someone with a chocolate addiction. She knows better than to indulge but OMG the way it melts in your mouth, the burst of flavors on your tongue - more! I gave her a pass because for some reason despite her not so innocent innocence I liked her character. Then there is sweet innocent eyed Decker who only wants to give Persephone the world (hack, cough) This ends on a cliffhanger leaving me with all my original questions and even a couple more I didn't originally have because everything just changed

5 STARS Review by Leah Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog I mean who does not love a story with Hades and Persephone in it? Amelia Wilde took their story as twisted as it is, I mean technically he is her uncle, and wrapped it up in a silky black bow. The build-up in King of Shadows is perfection. And could Hades be any more sinister? I mean yummy? I mean dark and deadly? Hades is written true to character in my opinion. He is not a bachelor looking for the next hookup. He is the ruler of the underworld. He is The King of Shadows. Amelia Wilde can write a book and it is like she picks you up and puts you right into her books. Each scene, each chapter you are standing right in that room as she directs this film that is going on in your head. From the home Persophone grew up in with her mother, to the looming mountain that is standing in the background. Her writing even makes the mountain a character in the book. No, it does not talk and it is not a “character” but it is right there in the background, dark and brooding. The only thing left is I need Summer Queen, pronto! Amelia, you got on that train and you left us at the station.

I love modern day retellings of mythological stories and this is one of the best! The author's description of Hades and Persephone brought them to life for me. Hades is a dark, intense, sexy character that Persephone's mother warned her about. Persephone lived a sheltered life and her innocence was everything Hades never knew he wanted. This is a captivating story told in duo POV's and ends in a cliffhanger that left me desperate for the next book.

Holy Moly, what a book!! All I can say is try to prepare yourself for the epic sizzling darkness that is Luther and the sinful, twisted lusciousness he brings with him! As a big fan of Greek mythology and a huge romance junkie, this book felt like it was almost created with me personally in mind. I loved this book. Luther and Persephone's story is a utterly consuming blend of scorching heat, warring desires, and intense emotional turmoil. Be warned that there is a cliffhanger at the end of this book and quite honestly, the next piece of this couple's story cannot come soon enough to make me happy.
