As with all Ms. Zapata's books, the romance is a slow burn. If you're a fan of instalove, her books are not for you. Her characters have depth and Kulti and Sal are no exception. I loved this book and will probably read it again.

I have now read all of Zapata's books and will anxiously await the next. My favorite thing about this book as well as the others is the build up of the characters relationships. The friendship and progression to love is what makes it feel so real and relatable. I of course would love even more from all the characters and at least I get snippets here and there in other books. That would be my only small complaint is that we only get a small portion of their story once they are actually together. Great books and I recommend them all!!

You will not be disappointed to read this book. It's an honest depiction of two people who have a competitiveness of a true athletes that fall in love.

I had only read one other book by this author before this one. I absolutely loved the love story in this one. The slow ride from friends to lovers was like a cool drink of water in the summer heat. I have since read this book twice. It is one of my all time favorites.

It has been a while since I have actually read a book that involved sports that I actually loved. She defiantly set a solid foundation in the story that made it that much better!!!

I will definitely read more from this author. Loved the discipline of Sal as an athlete and watching Kulti fall in love with her.

4 stars Overall a good read! I loved the character and relationship development between Sal and Kulti. The banter between the two was hysterical, and the thoughts going through Sal's head were priceless. Sal is such a fantastic MC...she is strong, independent, she knows what she wants and she goes for it. She is not a pushover. I loved seeing such a strong female character in a romance....I feel like I don't see enough of those in this genre. My favorite character was hands down Sal's dad. He made me laugh every time he came on to the page =) I've seen that a lot of people prefer this book to Zapata's other works, but I personally think that I like The Wall of Winnipeg and Me better. This is the second book of hers that I've read, and I will definitely be reading more.

Zapata is the queen of the slow burn.  Her books have such superb character development and the ones I have read usually start as a hate relationship and then over time turn to love.  This is my third novel by Zapata, and this tends to be her formula.  But when you get to that ultimate BANG it is so worth the wait.  The chemistry is explosive, and you are so invested in the characters you are signing praises that they have finally figured it out.   Even though I know nothing about soccer it didn’t matter, the characters are likable, and you get sucked into their lives.  Zapata is a phenomenal writer.  I love her style, and I loved this book.  Oh man when they finally got together, scorching.  I listened to it twice!   I am giving Kulti 5 Boundless stars, I loved it, excellent story and excellent narration.  Zapata is a favorite author of mine.

Ms Zapata is a talented storyteller and should have a solid career ahead as a writer. However she owes it her to her readers to pay for good editing before releasing her books. I almost gave up on this book in the first quarter because of “sloppy” writing but then the characters grabbed hold of me and I had to know the rest of the story. I’m glad I persevered. A great story with enjoyable and complex characters. Also a few laugh out loud moments (something I don’t do often when reading). If this were polished by a good editor it would earn a solid 5 stars from me!

This book. This German. There are no words for how annoying he can be. But I fell in love and I adore him. And now I want to read everything from this author because her style is just a different animal. When a reader says they love big books, this is the kind they are referring to. At 560 pages this book has lots of room for the story to unfold. Details are everywhere and the relationship between these two develops over time. Because he's her coach, they can't be more than friends so that's what they are. And it's a rocky friendship because of THE GERMAN. He's arrogant, ja. He does only what he wants to do, ja. And what he doesn't do is talk. More often than not, his response is silence. Talk about want to smack the man. I will admit to not liking him when he stood around practice like a statue saying nothing. But when Sal lets him have it for something he did, his response had my heart melting. Oh, no he doesn't SAY a word. We find out later what he did about it. Sal is a great person. This guy was her idol and her crush every since she first saw him walk onto a soccer field. She struggles to deal with her fangirling (THAT is so funny - you'll have to read how she does it). But she never gives up on him. She helps him. She's a friend to him. She keeps his secrets. She cares when he doesn't seem to. And I love her for it. I was so hoping she would get her happy. I really enjoyed the way this story played out. These characters provoked emotions and felt real. I watched them and just enjoyed the detail in their story. It's a satisfying romance that doesn't focus on the bedroom but on the relationship. It was so different than most of the romance that I read and I really enjoyed that. And now that I know The German better, he's still arrogant and quiet but I get him. I know his heart. I adore him. This is the kind of book you get because you love a story that unfolds over chapters instead of pages. And it's the one you still devour in a matter of hours because it's just that good.

If there was a way to give this 10 stars, I would. I've heard rave reviews for Mariana Zapata for quite a while but this was the first thing I've read of hers and it completely exceeded my expectations. Sal Casillas was a wonderful heroine. I loved how kind she was in her personal life in contrast to how she could be a beast on the soccer field. She was confident and determined, dedicated to her family and friends, and she works hard to be the best soccer player she can be. While she and Kulti don't get off on the right foot, I loved how she consistently tried to be the bigger person, while also giving as good as she got. Reiner Kulti is such a complex hero, completely the strong, silent type. I loved that Pumpernickel! Sal and Reiner are friends, first and foremost, even if Sal doesn't always know where she stands with the former soccer star turned assistant women's coach. They're good for each other, in ways they don't fully understand because of how crazy they drive each other. The bickering is often hilarious. More than that, I loved how true of a friendship it is, how they slowly open up to one another (alright, Reiner sloooooooowly opens up but still- he gets there!), they learn to trust one another, and they're there for each other when it counts. They really can't be more than friends because of the coach-player relationship and Sal never dreams it could be anything more, though her lengthy crush on him is still intact. And yet Reiner consistently shows Sal how much he cares about her, whether helping her with the kids soccer camps or showing up at her house to watch tv. It was incredible! Zapata interjects humor throughout the book. I almost howled when we finally found out what Sal said at the press conference. But there's such emotional depth, too. I may or may not have teared up at a couple of points. This is the slowest of slow burn romances and when Reiner and Sal finally- FINALLY!- get together, it was beyond satisfying. Their chemistry was incredible and I found myself sighing with happiness by the epilogue. I absolutely loved this one! Side note: I listened to this on audio and I'd highly recommend it. Narrator Callie Dalton did an exceptional job. All of those accents! She truly brought the story to life.

WOW! Mariana Zapata does it again with "Kulti". Not only is her writing sublime, her descriptions of the politics that goes on behind the seen is on point. This isn't just a love story between two people that couldn't be any more different or similar to each other, it is also about how bad you want to follow your dreams and the sacrifices you are willing to face in order to achieve them. Kulti was brought on as an assistant coach to the girls professional soccer team from Germany after a two year retirement (and a DUI) in order for him to get back in the game. Being the worlds most famous and beloved athlete all over the world, coaching was the last thing he wanted to do. His negative demeanor and miserable attitude brought a dark cloud over the woman's team. Ever since she was a little girl, Kulti's posters were spread all over Sal's bedroom walls. She spent hours siting at home by her fathers side watching him rewrite history in front of her eyes with his talent. The love and admirations she had for Kulti was beyond the normal "fan girl, until the day she knew he would never be hers. Sal worked hard to achieve all her dreams of becoming a professional soccer player, until the day Kulti was introduced as one of her coaches. The friendship that grows between these two characters is absolutely priceless. Sal breaks down Kulti's frozen walls by the persistence to stand up for her self and not take crap from him. But their friendship is tested by all the gossip and speculations from reporters, fans, the league it self, even her teammates. The questions of where her loyalty stands and to whom will determine the road to her future. There are few beautiful surprises by Kulti towards the ending that will truly make your heart melt. He might have been a man of grumpiness coming into this book, but by the end he is willing to put everything he ever believed in on the line for Sal's happiness. One more note on this book...... Sal's relationship with her father is one that we can all learn from. The unconditional love and support he showed Sal when it came to achieving her dreams, even though he had to work double as hard for every penny, gave Sal that much more to want to succeed. (Her father is hilarious, wait until you read about his birthday weekend, you will die laughing). I hope my review enlightens you to want to read this book, because truly it was a beautiful one to read.

Loved this book! I was actually looking for a sports romance, particularly soccer since I love to watch men's Spanish league, and have to say Mariana Zapata didn't disappoint. That Kulti is so hard to resist. Loved his character!! I wish there were more authors that wrote good sport romances like she did with this book. Absolutely brilliant and very well written. Never bored me! I highly recommend it.

this was one of THE BEST books i've read in a long while. I always feel kinda bad about being hung up on these romance novels instead of other genres, but this book didn't make me feel like that at all. It was a beautiful story and i loved the characters. they are beautifully developed and endearing, insert every positive adjective here. You will not waste your time with this one. it does take a build up, but aren't the best romances the ones that you can't possibly imagine working out, the ones hard fought for and not unrealistically easy? get with this book, immediately!

"Destiny is a ladder, a series of steps that takes you where you're supposed to go." This story read like a saga...at first it was slow ... then began to build! If you don't like a story with a slow build up, you aren't going to like this book. But if you can hold on, it is so worth it...just hang in there!!! The bantering between Kulti and Sal was terrific and the growth into their relationship was perfect. Mariana Zapata know how to give you characters that grab your attention and don't let go. It was a heartwarming story and the little bit of a twist at the end was monumental. I totally loved this book! "You'll have a team with me wherever we are..."
