About the Author

Josh Funk lives outside Boston with his family. He has a system for eating pancakes so the bottom pancake gets the same amount of syrup as the top. Josh also has two other picture books coming out in 2016: Dear Dragon (Viking/Penguin) and Pirasaurs! (Scholastic).

Whilst studying architecture at university, Brendan Kearney realized he didn't like rulers. He then discovered that it wasn't essential to use a ruler when illustrating children's books, and so traded architecture for illustration as quickly as he could. Having now completed his degree, he specializes in children's books, bringing his own chaotic style and ideas to any project. If you can't find him drawing you are likely to find him with a guitar or banjo in hand. Brendan currently lives in the UK.

This is a super adorable picture book that will have you craving food. Of all kinds, since Sir French Toast and Lady Pancake take you on a tour of the fridge in their race to get the last drop of maple syrup. Great rhymes, fun illustrations, and a bit of a surprise twist at the end that will give you a smile. I recommend adding this to your child's shelf, as it will soon be a favorite!

Just when good friends Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast think it’s okay to “chill out” with the leftovers, they must heat things up and go head-to-head in order to win the last drop of syrup. Their high-speed chase through the refrigerator is propelled by a steady rhyming rhythm, which further fuels the competition. Today’s busy kids are in competitive situations more than ever. Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast take an ever-important moment to reflect, and realize that cooperation might have served them better. As readers, we are left to soak up the good stuff- the syrup of life- friends… even when someone else beats us to the punch- or in this case, syrup! Double bonus: LP & SFT offers the perfect opportunity to exercise prediction skills through rhyming and plot!

Very creative! There is only one drop of syrup left in the refrigerator and Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast are on a race to get it. Miss Brie just informed the leftover friends and now the two of them will be pushing, shoving, rolling, falling and hurdling over items to get that last drop. Watch out linguini, you tall bottles of salad dressings and all you beans, these two are not stopping until they reach that syrup bottle. Chili Lagoon, Broccoli Forest, Orange Juice Fountain may slow them down but these two will clean themselves off and hit the road again. Who will be the winner and was this race worth the fight? I thought this novel was fun and creative. I could actually visualize the events occurring in the novel as the twosome battled through the refrigerator towards the syrup bottle. Once they arrived at their prize (syrup bottle), I liked how things were settled and how the book ended. The bonus map which flips down on the back page, so it is a vertical illustration of the inside of their refrigerator, was the icing on cake. What a fantastic novel.

Great read with my toddlers! I've read many books to them over their short lives but this one was delightful.

Debut author Josh Funk serves us a delectable treat with wonderfully rhymed rollicking read. Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast's race to find the last drop of maple syrup is action-packed and filled with fantastic illustrations. This book is so MUCH fun to read aloud and to listen to. We've been reading this story over and over at my house!
