In 1964 the Lake Kariba Fisheries Research Institute (LKFRI) was created in Kariba, Rhodesia as a United Nations Development Program Project, and executed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAD) in cooperation with the Governments of Rhodesia and Zambia.
