About the Author

Darcel Turner is a multi-talented writer, author, poet and mother of three. Two with conscious rapper Talib Kweli. She is from the Bronx. Raised in Farrockaway Queens & Brooklyn NY.

She is the author of Dana Dances on Paper (2003) Lathered Layers (2006). Darcel is the Founder and CEO of Dances on Paper Press, a creative arts and publishing company.

Darcel has produced and directed her Won Woman Stage Play (2009) titled "Dana Dances on Stage" taken from her novel Dana Dances on Paper, at The Bowery Ballroom. She has been a contributing writer and poet for the following publications: Essence Magazine, Mosaic Magazine, Rolling Out Magazine and others.

She has been profiled in several publications including The Ave Magazine, Rolling Out Urbanstyle Weekly and others.

As an author, Darcel has featured at numerous arts venues, colleges, festivals, and conferences including Bowery Poetry Club, Wordstock, Hue Man Bookstore, Robin's Bookstore, Bluestockings Books, La Pena Cultural Center (Berkeley, CA), and many others.
