“…brings tension to a fever pitch in the deep woods and plains of Wyoming.” ~5 stars, Tome Tender

Present Day, Copper River, Wyoming

Garrison Taggart’s psychic lie-detecting ability failed him when his ex-wife betrayed him. Until he can trust himself again, he’s sticking with a strict no-dating policy—that includes smart and sexy schoolteacher Sara Lopez—but one kiss from Sara makes him want to round up his insecurities once and for all.

Sara Lopez left behind a checkered past in Copper River to obtain her teaching degree and a respectable reputation. If only her ex-boyfriend, Hank Brand, would leave her alone so she can focus on the surly but sexy rancher, Garrison Taggart.

When a cross-valley rivalry between ranching families places Sara in the crossfire, Garrison must risk his deepest secret and his own life to save the people he cares for the most. But his heroics may cost him everything.

This book is the start of the Taggart Family story. The story is set in Copper River Wyoming. Garrison Taggart is the second oldest in the family but is tasked to run the ranch because the oldest brother took off. His son Zach is in Sara Lopez's class. She so far is the only teacher that stands up to Garrison and actually speaks her mind and asks him about his ex-wife leaving and if that behavior affected his son. The Brands are a family who live next door to the Taggart's and all but 1 (Izzy) started acting weird a year before the story and suddenly want to take all of the Taggart's down. The whole Taggart clan has special abilities. By the end of the book Garrison's ability morphs into something bigger than it was before. One part of the story line is about Sara and Garrison and the other is about the crazy Brand family and what evil scheme they are involved in. In a couple of pages I realized I recognized the names of some of the family members. I looked back and figured out it is because I read book 3 first. It was nice to look at more of the family. I even hunted down the rest of the books in the series just to make sure I could read up on everyone. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review. The opinions in this review are 100% my own

I am really torn between 3 and 3.5 stars. I was expecting a cowboy romance, which I received. There was a paranormal aspect thrown in, which I didn't mind, and it was interesting to a point. The paranormal abilities of the Taggert family were thrown into the story with not much explanation. Ok...Garrett can do this, Shelby can do that, Kerr can do something else, and Dad can't do anything. Wait. I started out reading a cowboy romance that morphed into a family with psychic abilities. Did I miss something? In all honesty, I went back and started the book over. Maybe I'm dense, but the hints thrown out in the first chapter were not significant enough for me to think "psychic" or "paranormal" . I also thought Garrett was the oldest until around chapter 7 when I discovered Vaughn was the oldest. Garrett and Sara's relationship felt like a stream of hits and misses. I really wanted them to get together. They had chemistry, and a real attraction. They each had so much baggage, I didn't think they would overcome it. Garrett spent most of his time being angry, and Sara spent most of her time blaming herself for EVERYTHING. Next, there was really no clear explanation for how or why Hank changed. Never any clear explanation of Hank's entire situation and the associated actions. I felt like there were so many unexplained factors in this book. It left me feeling unsatisfied. It made me wonder if Garrett and Sara ended up with a HEA or a HFN. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book received via eBook Discovery.

From the get-go this book will pull you in and have you flipping pages...just one more...just one more: be ready to read in one sitting. It's heart-gripping with a HEA but before you get there you have to earn it! Thankfully the author throws in some steamy scenes to heat up the pages along with the intrigue! I received this book from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily reviewed this book. This is my honest review.
