About the Author

Sir Charles William Wilson (1836–1905) was a British military officer, surveyor, and cartographer who distinguished himself throughout his career. He was deeply involved in survey work in Beirut, Palestine, and the Sinai desert—regions that required great tact and judgment. He also went on numerous expeditions over the course of his career.
