Holy smokes! The first line in this book will make u snap to attention. Martha is the new prim & proper schoolteacher & wolf is well, much like a real wolf... beautiful, fierce, & protective. When those two run into each other, both are drowned in a sensual haze that they've never felt before. Martha is delightful & funny in a kind of nerdy way, & it turns out she can be just as fierce as wolf when protecting the people she loves. Wolf wants her from the first he sees her, but fights it as hard as he can. His son, joe is a wonderful teenager forced to grow up beyond his years. The towns people are wonderfully described, adding even more character to this story.

Love, love, love this story. The characters are real, the story is inspiring. I really hope this series goes on and on. I know I will read this over and over again. Like fine wine, it only gets better with time. Highly recommended PS: I have read multiple times.

Wonderful Every Time!  The hero and heroine of this love story are walking tropes. Mary is a plain, petite, bookworm, spinster teacher. She has just moved to a small town in Wyoming that is very much trapped narrow thinking.  Wolf is a  half Native American veteran single father cowboy who was falsely accused of a crime and who is Alpha to the bone.  However, this romance is classic with its burn between the heroine and hero. The wonderful story that unrolls for the teenage son is a great one as well.   There is a moment when Wolf helps Mary deal with a tragic event that shows the kind empathy that makes love bloom.  Perhaps, this book is dated in some ways but I think it stands up to the test of time and the rest of the series that follow is delightful because we get to see Mary and Wolf through the years.  Wish it would come out in E Book form!

Good story but way too much sex. Right out of the story, Wolf wanted to have sex with Mary and they could hardly talk to each other before they were going at it. The story part was OK. More sex than story.

The contrast between Wolf and Martha keeps the pages turning in this story. Wolf is every bit alpha and a great hero. I really enjoyed this read.

I don't normally write reviews. This book deserves one. It is a superb read. I highly recommend it. I also recommend "Mackensies Mission". Even though both books are stand alone, "Mission ties in very well following "Mountain". Enjoyed them both very much.

Mary Elizabeth Potter leads somewhat of a sheltered life, her experience with men is very limited, and has lead her to believe that she just may be single forever. She is hoping that her new adventure in Wyoming will provide a more exciting life for her, and maybe put her in the presence of a man that's worthy of her affections. After arriving in Wyoming, and getting settled into her new teaching job she notices a student who is struggling some, so she decides to intervene and see if she can help him, which lands her on the doorstep of Mr. Wolf Mackenzie. He is a stubborn man, with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, and he is quite adamant that his son doesn't need her help...but she just isn't ready to give up on them. Wolf Mackenzie is a jaded man, because he has had a rough go of things lately, he spent time in jail for a crime he didn’t commit and it's left him angry and on the fight. He is surrounded by a town of people that hate and distrust him just because he is Native American. His son is struggling to find his way in school, and he is quite certain it is because of him, which leads him to believe his son would be better off not going to school at all. So, when his son's new teacher shows up on his doorstep he is ready to send her packing without even listening to what she has to offer, his willingness to let others in is almost non-existent, but she isn't backing down, and is pretty insistent on helping his son. So he reluctantly gives in, and they come to an agreement.. not realizing this little agreement just might help him out too! This was a charming little read that captured my attention right from the start, and had me flying right through the pages in hopes of finding a well deserved happy ending...and staying up well past my bedtime just to find it, and it was well worth the loss of the sleep!! It has been a while since I have read something from this author, and so I was really looking forward to this read, and I am happy to report she did not disappoint!! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting these two well crafted characters and I am quite certain that if you give them a chance they will win you over too!! Highly recommend this entertaining little tale, it's sure to warm your heart and put a smile on your face!! This is the first and only book i've read by Linda Howard but i must admit it is one of the best romance books i have ever read. The mckenzie's are loyal and responsible and also tough and outgoing. They have so many layers! I wish the story was longer i connected with all of them like real people by just reading 200 and something pages.
