Magic in the Stars by Patricia Rice

He's a scientist who studies the stars. She's an astrologer who predicts the future. Can a lonely witch save a handsome unbeliever from his own doom? As an astrologer, Lady Azenor Dougall sadly realizes her stars are a danger to her beloved siblings and has banished herself from her Scots home. As the Malcolm family librarian, she dutifully creates zodiac charts for her often eccentric and mysterious relations--until the day she realizes a dire conjunction of planets spells a fatal threat in a distant branch of the family. Lord Theophilus Ives, heir presumptive to the Marquess of Ashford, Earl of Ives and Wystan, is a dedicated astronomer who has perfected a telescope capable of seeing beyond Saturn's moons. Living in an all-male family that distrusts the women who regularly abandon them, Theo is undaunted by the tumult of his life--until the day the luscious Lady Azenor arrives to warn them that the marquess is in danger. Can Aster, the Prophetess of Doom, convince a laughing disbeliever of peril? And what are the chances she can escape the fate her stars predict if she lingers too long in Lord Theo's enthralling company? Reviews: "From this masterful storyteller comes the first book in the Unexpected Magic series. Rice packs her tale with whimsy humor and mayhem, along with a delightful female astrologer and an absentminded astronomer, who are often on a collision course--for love. Throw in some lovable canines and felines and Rice takes her readers on an amorous adventure in this magical tale." -- Joan Hammond, RT Book Reviews 4 1/2 top pick

The first hundred pages were so annoying, both Theo and Aster were tediously annoying. It got better after that but the astrology was a but much

I received this ebook from the spectacular author Patricia Rice for a honest review. I have always enjoyed reading Patricia‘s historical romance books because they transport you to the era of time that she is writing about. Magic in the Star is a start of a new series for Patricia where we are in transported to England and dealing with the intuitions of an astrologer, Lady Azenor Dougall, Aster to her friends and family. Aster is this spit firecracker of a woman that has a take charge attitude but is still loving and caring of everyone around her. She has some issues with her gift and is now set on being a cat lady. The person she is charting for is Lord Theophilus Ives, heir presumptive to the Marquess of Ashford, Earl of Ives and Wystan, a dedicated astronomer. He does not believe in her charting at all however, he still keeps her around to do it even after finding out what her troubles are with her gifts. Does Theo every really believe her? You will just have you read it to find out. I enjoyed receiving portions of Aster and Theo’s back stories threw out the whole book. You can watch them fall in love and see what marriage should be about. I understood that this was supposed to be a paranormal romance book however, the book seemed more about the enhanced natural abilities or psychic abilities of certain families. I had thought there would be paranormal and flamboyant magic scenes in the book and there wasn't. It didn't change that this story is 5 stars worthy and a great start for Patricia’s new historical/paranormal romance series. Oh I might have forgotten to talk about the side characters that are their family members. I did this because I believe most will have their own book in this series.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This story is different from any other book I've read. The Ives men are all entertaining in their own way. With their unique upbringing, and family dynamics they are a force to be reckoned with, in their own home. Aster and her family being so superstitious is crazy. The story grabs your attention with love, laughter and curiosity, and keeps it with an interesting story. I look forward to reading about all the brothers.

Magic in the Stars is a great start to a new series. After having read so many of Patricia Rice's magical books, I was really thrilled to find out about this new series and was of course even more thrilled that it was about the Malcolm and the Ives families. As with her past books, Patricia Rice weaves an interesting and engaging story with Aster and Theo and you just can't help but root for them. I totally enjoyed the story but I wished there was more magic in the story. Hopefully, Patricia Rice will include more magical aspects in the future books of this series. ** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I received a copy of this book to give my honest review. This is fun love story about Lady Azenor Dougall (Astor) and her witchy Dougall family with their particularities and the Lord Theophilus Ives and his scientific eccentric family. Lord Ives family has trouble keeping women around because of their bizarre household. Lady Aster is an astrologist and believes she is doomed to always be alone because her astrological chart shows she is danger to anyone she cares for. Lord Theo is an astronomer, a man of science and doesn't believe in astrology. He first meets Lady Aster when she comes to warn him and his brother of an impending disaster. This disaster causes Theo to have to unexpectedly take over his brother's, the marquess, duties and needs help with tenants, crops and civilizing his brothers and their children. He resents not being able to spend his time studying the night sky. Lady Aster steps in to help, and she is strong character. She doesn't wait to be saved by others. Will the stars bring them together? These two orbiting each other in a hilarious journey is definitely worth the read.

Magic in the Stars: Unexpected Magic is a Great Read... “Received this ARC free for an honest review. I loved this story. It’s a period piece and I’m not too fond of those that go into depth with all the titles of the characters and it seems to get lost in translation and slows the flow, but not with this book. To see the story take flight and soar, then it levels out a bit only to dive and take flight again… was entertaining. To say that it kept me on the edge of my seat is an understatement. I laughed, got angry and frustrated… and laughed and cheered again. I can’t wait for the next installment in the series. “

A fun story. The characters are likable and very entertaining. Aster believes that if she stays around her family, she will endanger them. So, she lives alone and only sees family once in a while and not for long periods of time. She "sees" that there will be a problem in the Ives family and she must warn them. When she gets to the estate, she finds chaos. Theo and his family live is chaos all the time. Then this woman shows up and tells them there will be a disaster. To him it will just be one more disaster. Aster agrees to help Theo find a wife, but she has to put their home into some kind of order first. Easier said than done.

Lady Aster, an astrologer and prognosticator of the future, has been creating astrological charts of family for many years. One of per predictions is that something horrible will happen in the Ives family, shirttail relatives of hers, so she sets off to warn them. They, of course, do not believe her. Something bad does happen and she is called in to help out. There are many Ives brothers in the family with Theo, the astronomer, deciding to set his sights on Aster. There is much to do to set Iveston to rights, many charts to consider, some stargazing through telescopes and evil to be thwarted. The evil doers may raise their heads in future books and Ives brothers will no doubt meet women and settle down in those books. This is not an easy book to get into unless you are into astrology. The idea that Lady Aster truly believes her charts and lets them dictates her behavior is a bit mind boggling but perhaps true of the times and of her. Her family is descended from the Malcom family of a previous series and the marriage ceremony harks back to some traditions of that series. I enjoyed this book once I got into it. I loved the scenes that occurred in the bathroom and the bed set up for the wedding night. The Ives family was interesting and fun to get to know. They definitely were a handful! There is much that can be done with this series and this book sets the groundwork for all of the brothers to end up with their own happily ever after. It will be interesting to see who each of them end up with since they are all so very different. Some of Lady Aster’s relatives were mentioned as potential wives but could also meet other than Ives brothers and have stories of their own in this series. Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book to read and review.
