About the Author

Emily was a protege of the late master of the pulps or paperback originals, Harry Whittington. See acknowledgements in the opening of the novel.
He taught her to plot and gave her approval of the original outline and sample chapter for "Marquel" shortly before he died in 1989.
He lived in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida in the latter part of his life and Emily met him through the Suncoast Writer's Conference in St. Petersburg and later wrote a local feature about Harry. She became friends with the author and his wife and was instrumental in helping the family remember the quote Harry wanted on his grave marker: "One of the Masters of the Roman Noir" which was a partial quote from The Magazine Literaire (Paris). Harry is buried in St. Petersburg.
Emily spent the early part of her writing career working for the Clearwater Sun daily newspaper and it's weekly division. Once she and husband Tom began raising their daughters, she focused more on family and after a long hiatus and both girls now grown women, she is ready to start anew and rekindle her love for writing.
