I went to Barnes & Noble in search of a book that explains Perimenopause/Menopause. I zeroed in on Dr. Allmen's Menopause Confidential and I am glad I did. Before I read this "how to" take care of your health after age 40, I must admit I was overwhelmed and scared about the changes that I was experiencing. I had so many questions that my local and longtime OBGYN could not answer. After I read Dr. Allmen's book, in one sitting, every question I had was answered! She breaks down "what to expect" both physically and mentally and presents valuable scientific & fact based information and suggestions that is comprehensive, informative and eye opening. I am so thankful that I have Dr. Allmen's "go to resource" in my library and I will refer to it for many years to come. I highly recommend this book to every woman over the age of 40. Run don't walk to the nearest Barnes & Noble and buy a copy or two. It makes a great gift.
This is a thorough, comprehensive book that's both informative and highly entertaining. Dr. Allmen takes readers through a gamut of issues that affect women at midlife. She discusses hot flashes, of course, but also mood changes, insomnia, diminished libido, osteoporosis, heart disease, skin/hair changes, breast cancer, and complementary/alternative approaches. There's even a chapter for the hapless men who have to endure their partner's menopausal challenges. The style is light and very personable. (Who would have thought reading about hot flashes could be fun?) I highly recommend this book.
Brava Dr Allmen! Menopause confidential unequivocally captures your true essence and spirit. This fantastic read is chockfull of useful, up to date, and relevant information for women and practitioners alike. Quintessential to any women's health library, this go to menopause resource gets a big thumbs up from this "village person"
Dr. Allmen clearly understands what a woman goes through during perimenopause and menopause. Her book "Menopause Confidential" is enlightening and entertaining. She is clearly not a cookie cutter doctor with a one size fits all approach. I recently met with her and what a delightful person / doctor. I highly recommend this book as a "must read" to every woman going through this period of their time as this will become your reference book. Thank you Dr. Allmen!
Midlife and menopause are not something anyone wants to think or read about, but Dr. Tara Allmen's book, Menopause Confidential, is an absolute game and life changer. It provides the most current understanding and recommendations for all of us going through midlife changes and at the same time is an entertaining and engaging read. (I am smiling to myself as I recall the many funny and relatable stories shared by Dr. Allmen). As a physician going through this life change, this book was both perfect and timely. Management of this transition has continuously changed since I learned about it in medical school and residency training. My mother is an endocrinologist and often provides me with the latest literature on menopause and hormone replacement therapy from her sedatingly boring journals. It's difficult to find time to read the things I want to and am interested in, let alone stay up to date when my own gynecologist doesn't seem to know the best course. Thank you, Dr. Allmen, for educating and enlightening us, inspiring us to take control of our lives and our bodies, and for making us laugh. I will be sharing this book with (and purchasing it for) many of my friends!!
Great book by a caring and highly accomplished doctor who is pioneering the menopause specialty. Delivered with subtle humor, a lot of empathy, and an underlying kindness that suggests both wisdom and experience. Highly recommend for those in or nearing the big M or just interested in women's health overall.
A big THANKYOU to Dr. Tara Allmen for sharing her thoughts on this confusing and mystifying topic. This book is literally my best friend now. The wealth of information and the sense of humor make it an easy reading as if you are talking to your girlfriend. I was also encouraged to know that I am not alone in this journey and what is happening to my body and mind is real and not my imagination. I would suggest this book to every woman above 40 and would strongly advise to share it with their husbands. My husband after reading this book had just one regret –why he did not get this book 5 years ago.
Outstanding book. Read Menopause Confidential. It says everything the doctor wants to say if only the doctor had two hours to talk during an office visit. Written with love and humor, relying on up to date research and offering practical advice to implement the medical insight, Menopause Confidential is an essential guide to women's good health during midlife and beyond. No topic is off the table. Dr. Allmen even includes her own recipe for a happy colonoscopy prep. From weight gain to heart disease, osteoporosis to cancer, and discussing so much more about the health of midlife women, Dr. Allmen has enabled women to pursue the best possible course to good health. The book is indispensable reading.
