Merk's Mistake (Heroes for Hire Series #3) by Dale Mayer

Love never fades...

Injuries that require months of lost time are finally a thing of the past, and Merk sails from mission to mission with Legendary Securities, thrilled to be active once more. But when his ex-wife contacts him, panicked and needing his help, he rushes to get to her in time...only to have her snatched away right before his eyes.

When trouble finds her, Katina's first and only thought is her ex-husband Merk. Although they haven't spoken in a decade, nothing about their attraction to each other has changed. If anything, her reaction to him is deeper and stronger than ever before. But, while she reels from all they've lost, her life is on the line and her only focus is staying alive.

Katina has something that others want badly enough to make them risk anything to get, no matter how evil their plan, no matter who they have to kill to get it...

The more I read of this series, the more I like it. The great thing is any of these books can be read as a standalone if you so wish. But I have to say that as this series progresses I notice growth with each book. Merk and Katina are great characters. They are so comfortable with each other and their witty banter is very amusing. It lends a bit of comic relief when things start to get tense. I really enjoy Dale Mayers books. Her characters allways draws you into the book and her writing is superb. I received a free copy of this book .

This read caught my interest since the first page as I was very surprised with Merk's choice of a wife, I mean Katina was cool but, like Lissa, extremely clingy. I don't know maybe these men like clingy women that can out eat them...lol. Man this woman could eat! I loved it!! I hate reading female characters that eat only veggies, fruits and water! Healthy is great but sometimes you just have to go for that cookie, you know? In any case as usual with all these hero books, the h gets into trouble and relies completely on the H to take care of her while simultaneously acting like she has a backbone. I've come to understand those are the types of female leads this author enjoys writing about and she certainly does a great job of capturing the essence of a helpless female. So while I appreciate the intrigue she adds to all of her books, I really dislike her portrayal of women. Overall, I did enjoy this read, Katina was funny and extremely secretive which was frustrating all around. Merk was just your regular alpha military male. Plenty of mystery, lots of driving and hiding and so much repetivness between those two its really easy to just skip through all the Vegas talk. So far the first three books run along the same sort of parameters, but they are fun to read during those times of day you have nothing to do as they are really fast paced. SR

Have you ever wondered "WHAT IF?" Merk's past has come back and he starts to question his decisions. Katrina is in over her head and the only one who can help her is Merk. These two characters have sparks flying off the page right from the start. Danger is everywhere and it will take the efforts of the team to keep Katrina safe. This was a fun story despite the apparent danger. The sexual tension, the sparks between the two main characters and the history that makes them question whether or not fate is giving them a second chance makes for an exciting read. There is a lot of action in the storyline and a slow building of trust as the characters get to know each other again. Snarky comments, intense situations, family banter and teasing keep the story flowing at a good pace. Each new story gives clues as the future couples and lays the foundation for upcoming romances. Much to Levi's dismay, his band of brothers are slowly catching up to the "Keeper's". I love how this series is coming together and can't wait to see what happens next. I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.
