The living seek forgiveness. The dead seek revenge.
A first love.
A last breath.
A haunting past.
Armed with a sinful past and an equally sinful body, Jackson Knight absolves his vow of celibacy to pursue Sergeant Monaghan's unsuspecting-older-housekeeper.
Ryn Middleton, on the cusp of turning forty with a snarky daughter, a killer dog, and an abusive ex-husband, finds Jackson's advances humorous and unbelievable. After intense negotiations including Vera Wang, Ed Sheeran, and sex four times a day, Ryn accepts Jackson's marriage proposal on their first date.
What could possibly go wrong?
While struggling to lay claim to the woman of the dreams he never had, Jackson is forced to deal with a grief-stricken Jillian trying to hold on to her past without letting go of her future-the doctor who took her heart and the Sergeant who gave her a new one.
Beyond the hope for light, lies the middle of darkness, the illusion of truth, and a haunting past.

I’m am so glad that Jewel E. Ann didn’t keep her day job and chose to write full time because that woman can tell a story! Her use of double entendre is witty and fun. Her ability to spin a complex tale of suspense and romance in multiple time periods is nothing short of brilliant. I love her use of flashbacks and a third person narrator to tell this tale. Middle of Knight picks up exactly where End of Day ended at the scary, hairy edge of a giant cliff! The cliffhangers and the intense plot make me so thankful that I didn’t start this series until it was completely published! Jackson and Jillian are living in a quirky planned community in Omaha, NE. The geriatric neighbors got used to the nerdy piano teacher and his sexy sister who picks up the mail in her red boots and underwear. Middle of Knight gives us more of Jude/Jackson’s story. He’s sexy, smart and lethal. Several new and interesting characters are added. Mrs. Baker, the red-heard piano student, raises Jude’s hackles while Ryn, the blond housekeeper, steals Jackson’s heart. Middle of Knight gives us more of Jude/Jackson’s story. While Ms. Ann tickles us with humor and sweeps us off our feet with Jessica/Jillian’s flashbacks about Luke, the suspense thickens. Dark, foreboding clues are imbedded in the story. Don’t fall into the temptation of rushing your read—every details matters! About Luke…if ever there was a perfect book boyfriend, it has to be him. I’m officially forsaking all other book boyfriends and saving myself for him. Romantic, devoted, handsome, fun, sexy… he is just perfect for Jessica Day. “I don’t think there are enough stars in the sky to count how many times a day I fall in love with you all over again.” Trying to forget the love of her life, Jillian becomes more involved with her grouchy next-door neighbor, AJ. I have to admit that I am probably the solo descenter. I really couldn’t get into this relationship. I realize that it was probably cathartic for Jillian, but it killed me that she was possibly moving on from Luke. I’ve intentionally not said much about the plot. I really don’t like reviews that give away all the juicy details. To enjoy a suspenseful book you really should go in blind and enjoy every twist, turn, and red herring the author throws your way. "God gave you a gift of 84,600 seconds today. Have you used one of them to say thank you?" Today, I’m thanking author Jewel E. Ann for a very good book.
OMG give this guys a break!!! How much can be endure? Having to deal with change you don't want and settling or starting over is what this characters are about. I have read a lot of books and Jack and Jill are the strongest characters I've read. I love it! They don't look for excuses or behave like victims, They just deal with whatever sucky-ness life throws at them. And trust me, you will see that when they are down someone comes and kicks them just to make sure they don't go up. But yes- they are fighters. I really liked having in this book more of Jackson's story, it makes the whole story a bit lighter. And for Jill.... I am hoping for so much change. Really looking forward to the next part of the story.
