I'm not sure how I'd feel if the love of my life just disappeared on me the way Jacko did Lauren. Obviously, Lauren had a deep understanding of Jacko and still, I don't know if I'd be able to tolerate it even with knowing the reason. The portrayal of his emotions was well written and you could feel his anguish and worry. Even though he didn't tell Lauren about him needing some time alone, he made sure his friends would check on her and needless to say their partners being good friends, would be spending time with her. The trip to discovering himself met with an interesting twist which was a pleasant surprise. However, the action ended too quickly in my opinion especially since the suspense went on for quite a bit. I've been enjoying this series and this book is no exception. The plot is not as fast paced and action packed as the others but still an enjoyable read. It's also more emotional than the others book in this series. ARC provided by the author in exchange for a honest review.

Midnight Quest is a standalone novella in the Men of Midnight series, and is a sequel to Jacko and Lauren's story told in Midnight Vengeance. If you haven't read any of the original Midnight series, or the spinoff Men of Midnight series, I highly recommend them. They are a tight mix of action, suspense and erotic romance with very alpha male characters and women who possess strong will and inner strength. Because this is a sequel to a story that had a happy ending, this couple is already in love. Jacko and Lauren have a solid relationship, but Jacko hadn't really thought about what comes next - until the day he comes home from his latest assignment and Lauren reveals the happy news that she is pregnant. Jacko goes into shock. His own past is mostly a mystery, except for his drug addicted mother who died young. He is instantly stricken with thoughts of a horrendous childbirth and a deformed monstrous child. He decides that he needs to research his past immediately, find out his roots, and only then will he be able to accept the idea of being a father. Hence the title of the story - it's Jacko's quest to find out the truth of his past. I really enjoyed this story. Even though the couple is already together, they still have to get through this rough patch. Lauren worries about Jacko who has disappeared. He calls her while on the road, but doesn't speak into his end of the phone, not knowing what to say. Lauren has faith that Jacko will return to her once he gets his issues sorted out. Friends of the couple, characters who've appeared in other books in the series all makes cameos here, showing their unique friendship and camaraderie that make each of the Midnight stories a delight to read. They hold vigil with Lauren as she waits for Jacko's return. Jacko's quest takes him to several different southern states. I was so glad to see him finally find out parts of his past, enough to reassure him that the nightmares he envisions about his child won't come true. Of course it wouldn't be a Lisa Marie Rice book without a bad guy in the mix, and the second half of the story deals with a threat let loose by Jacko's investigation, as well as a surprising reunion. There are some sexy scenes between Jacko and Lauren (before and after his road trip) and we get a happy ending to the tale and a sweet epilogue. Easy to read on its own, with enough details about Lauren and Jacko's relationship to ensure new readers won't feel left out, this is a treat for faithful readers of the series. 4. 5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was intrigued by Jacko (Morton Jackman) in Midnight Angel, and absolutely fell in love with him in Midnight Vengeance. Therefore, it is quite understandable that I was over the moon when I found out this book was a continuation of Jacko's and Lauren's story. An unexpected announcement from Lauren sends Jacko on a journey into his past to discover a family he never knew about. Unfortunately, his search for answers brings danger to his door and puts Lauren squarely in its crosshairs. Fast paced and suspenseful, this book refused to be put down. Lisa Marie Rice always leaves me impatient for the next book.

Jacko's childhood was lonely. He was neglected by his drug addicted mother and never knew his father. When he was old enough, he joined the Navy. Now he's found love with Lauren. For the first time in his life he has a real home. When she tells him she's pregnant, he falls apart. He's afraid for their baby. He doesn't know anything about his parents. When he tries to get information, he becomes a killer's target. Who wants him dead? What happens next is a heart stopping adventure. I loved the romance between these two. Lauren is gentle and trusting. She loves Jacko with all her heart. Jacko knows that Lauren is his future. He'll protector her with his life. I was pulled into Midnight Quest by the romance and the action packed suspense kept me rivited. Lisa Marie Rice wrote compelling characters, great suspense and a sensual moving romance. I love the Men of Midnight series. It was enjoyable to see all the familiar characters again. I hope this won't be their last adventure.

What Worked For Me: In typical Lisa Marie Rice fashion, I am blown away at her ability to tell an amazing story. I don’t care if it’s 5 chapters or 50 chapters, every time I read anything by her I am swept away to a world of alpha men who love their women fiercely and passionately. This book is no except to this rule. Midnight Quest is the continuation of Jacko and Lauren’s story, which I thought ended beautifully in Midnight Vengeance, but I am not going to split hairs at the chance to get more mileage out of one her most beautiful couples. These two tortured souls have finally found peace and happiness in their lives and are moving on to fantastic things but a revelation from Lauren brings Jacko’s calmly ordered world to a grinding halt and he flees looking for answers to a past he has avoided since he was old enough to legally walk away. Jacko and Lauren are so simple and breathtaking together. He brings safety and security to her world and she gives him peace and a home, two things he has never had in his life. Their chemistry is awe-inspiring and even though the bedroom scenes are not overly graphic, they are sensual and erotic in their own right. I love how Lauren gives unwavering support to Jacko, even not knowing where he is or what he is doing, she shows us how much she loves him and stands by him. She is quite simply, a one-of-a-kind woman in her love for Jacko. During an unexpected stop, Jacko unwittingly walks into a situation that changes his future forever (you gotta read this as I didn’t see this coming and my mind was blown in the very best ways). We have some bad guys come into the picture that are the epitome of evil and of course, the return of our scrumptious Men of Midnight. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy seeing characters from previous books return so we can see how they are doing now. Overall, this was a deeply moving and emotional read full of love, devotion, and suspense. I was completely engaged and entertained the entire time and, as always, was so sad to see it end. What Didn’t Work For Me: No flaws, perfect from start to finish. Would I Recommend This Book: Yes….to all my reader friends. Final Star Rating: 5 stars

Midnight Quest a continuation of Lauren and Jacko's story. It is not your typical LMR story, but you really see why Lauren and Jacko belong together. Lauren understands Jacko in so many ways that I was getting angry at him for her when it was unwarranted. Lauren truly understands how he ticks and her love shines through for him in this book. She gets hims in ways that no one else does and while she may waiver, she is strong. Their love is tested in Midnight Quest, but oh what an amazing end to this one!
