Miracle in New Hope by Kaki Warner

Award-winning author Kaki Warner presents a romantic and poignant short novel about following your heart, no matter the cost.

Amidst the snowy peaks of the Rocky Mountains in 1871, Daniel Hobart keeps to himself—a man with a hole in his heart that matches the scar on his face. But when Daniel starts having visions of a young girl crying out for help, he begins to fear that solitude may have caused him to lose his mind. Determined to find out the truth about the mysterious girl, Daniel travels into New Hope and learns that she’s the missing daughter of widow Lacy Ellis.

After a year of heartbreak, Lacy isn’t sure what to make of Daniel’s claims of seeing her daughter. But when he sets out to find Hannah on his own, Lacy decides to join him, allowing herself one last chance to hope. And as they retrace the long-cold trail of Hannah’s disappearance, two broken people manage to take some small comfort in each other, and in the possibility of a miracle…

Includes previews of Kaki Warner’s Runaway Brides novels, Heartbreak Creek, Colorado Dawn and Bride of the High Country.

I almost deleted this book from my wishlist because of the negative reviwes. I am really happy I didn't delete this book. Yes, the book is less than a hundred pages but every page is filled with pain, suspense, hope, and love,. I would recommend this book. Great quick read.

Cozy, sweet, and yet suspenseful. There is so much to love about a man who goes to extreme lengths to find a little girl he hears calling to him. He knows she is real, but then fears he may be going crazy. A despairing mother, whose child has been missing, puts all her hope in him. She has no other choice. For some reason (could it be love?), he swears he will find the girl no matter what it takes. The "paranormal" aspect to the story made me think of other old-fashioned books I like, such as Emily of New Moon, which has ghostly, mysterious aspects. It is not the "paranormal" of today, but of times past.  I adored this story, the surprises and twists, and the characters themselves. Kaki Warner's settings are always wonderful and easy to envision, and accurate to historical detail. I'm a little biased as I tend to love everything she writes, but I especially enjoyed this shorter novella. It was definitely a page-turner (although I read it on my iPhone, so would that be a screen-swiper?) that kept me reading into the night. Readers need to understand that this is a novella, which means SHORT novel. It is a book often put out around the holidays, a little different than the usual novels authors write.  Also, it is possible to preview samples of books so that you know whether or not to spend money on it. Please don't write reviews if you can't say anything worthwhile, and if your grammar skills are so badly lacking that no one will give your review a second thought. THAT was more of a waste of time than your reading of this book.

There is a subtle element of mystery in this novella, but the main focus is on two hurting and vulnerable people who are brought together through unusual circumstances. I enjoyed the connection between the characters and their emotions. This is one I plan to read again :)
