Overview

Winning has always come naturally for stud ice hockey defenseman Gus “the Bus” Persson. On the ice or off, he’s never had any trouble scoring, racking up goals—and girls. As the best player in his rookie class and the number-one draft pick of the Malibu Suns, he’s taking his game to the next level and is justifiably full of swagger.

So why does one of the Suns’ ice girls treat him like he’s invisible?

Bo St. James doesn’t have time for rookie hotshots who think their gloves don’t stink. She knows them, she works with them, she trains them. It doesn’t matter that Gus Persson is the hottest newbie she’s ever seen. She knows his type. She’s got big plans of her own, and she’s not going to let some cocky rich kid athlete keep her from her goals.

But there’s a chemistry between them they cannot deny. A lust that burns so hot, it threatens to melt the very ice on which they make their livings. The game has changed for both of them. Together, can these two play to win?

About the Author

My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.

I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.

I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.

I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.

… and did I mention I love hockey?

Toni Aleo is one of my favourite authors so as soon as I saw she was involved in a Misadventures book I had to read it, she did not disappoint what a fantastic read Misadventures of a Rookie is. Gus Persson has it all, a Rookie with a shot at the NHL but is also a complete manwhore he has a one and done reputation that most of his teammates envy. Every puck bunny wants him except for the ice bunny with the beautiful red hair and what ever he does he can’t get her attention. Bo St James knows what she wants and how she is going to get it and messing around with a player is not on the cards, it’s not in her future because they only cause heartbreak and she certainly is not getting nvolved with the biggest heartbreaker of them all Gus Persson. This is a funny, emotional story about two people changing how they look upon live when feelings become involved, the witty banter between Gus and Bo is perfect and I was hooked from the first page to the very last line. This is a love story with real characters and if you love Hockey and

Bo St. James has sworn off men, especially hockey players. When she catches the attention of the leading scorer for the Malibu Suns, she has to use all of her willpower to avoid his persistent attempts to gain her attention. She has been burned in the past, and must avoid Gus to keep history from repeating itself. Gus “the Bus” Persson is on the fast track to becoming a professional athlete in the NHL. He has everything a guy could want: beautiful women, great teammates, and a loving family. He has the looks and charisma to go with, so why does one of the Malibu Suns ice girls want nothing to do with him? The undeniable attraction between Gus and Bo leads them down a path of fiery passion, but the ghosts of Bo's past continue to rip them apart. Can she overcome her demons and have a chance at true love, or will she let the only man that has ever truly cared for her walk out of her life? Toni Aleo does it again! Misadventures with a Rookie is about the struggles and triumphs of a rising hockey star and the woman that has changed his life forever. They both have a history of heartache, but together they have the chance at a once in a lifetime kind of love. If you are a hockey fan and love a good romance, this sports romance novel is for you!

I just love Toni's characters. She draws you into their world and everything falls away except the story. Gus and Bo are just great. You become invested to their development and you can't wait to see how they get to forever!

I haven't read a Misadventures book yet that I haven't completely loved! Add Toni Aleo, sports romance genius to the mix and you've got yourself a winner! So many lol moments! I kept turning the pages on my iPad and didn't want it to end... Cocky and arrogant Gus, sexy and plays hockey! Winning! Lol Bring in Bo, smart, talented, beautiful! She doesn't fall for Gus' charm right away...even if the attraction is off the charts! If you're looking for a well written, sporty, super fun read! Look no further, highly recommend!!! ??????????

Love is unpredictable Hockey is one of my favorite sports to watch. I wish our local team made it to the play-offs but unfortunately they were stink this year. I hope that next year, they will improved. This book is fun to read if you like the sports hockey. It is a funny read and at the same time emotional. Love is unpredictable especially when it happened to Gus. This chick magnet heart is breaking from an ice girl named Bo. They are names are so unique and their attraction is instant. Bo's experienced will teach many young girls. She is very strong and willing to endure the pain to let that special tiny man in her life have a bright future. This girl will pour your hearts out. Prepare a Kleenex by your side, you might need it. Gus had a different experienced when he was little. I liked his family. Any girl's should have this kind of family. Misadventures of a rookie will teach you that though love is unpredictable. You should keep your heart open and be honest with each other. This is such a sweet read.

This is definitely another great addition to the Misadventures series. I wasn't too impressed with Gus at the very beginning of the book, but I couldn't put it down. Boy, am I glad I didn't. He totally proved himself and is now one of my top favorite book boyfriends. I adore him!! And Bo, she's such a strong character! Her determination is something to be admired! I loved this couple and their story. This is a must read!

humorous and heart breaking MISADVENTURES WITH A ROOKIE by Toni Aleo is a stand-alone, contemporary, new adult, sports romance story line, a part of the multi-authored MISADVENTURES series. This is twenty-two year old AHL’s Malibu Suns hockey defenseman Gus ‘The Bus’ Persson, and twenty-one year old Sun’s ice girl/college student Bo St. James’ story line. NOTE: I have seen this cover and title in two formats including Misadventures of a Rookie. Told from dual first person perspectives (Gus and Bo) MISADVENTURES WITH A ROOKIE follows the acrimonious relationship between AHL’s Malibu Suns hockey defenseman Gus ‘The Bus’ Persson, and twenty-one year old Sun’s ice girl/college student Bo St. James. Bo wants nothing to do with a man like Gus Persson. She knows his type only too well-a love’em and leave’em kinda guy whose reputation with the ladies, and his arrogant and cocky personality precedes his introduction to our story line heroine but a persistent Gus Persson slowly begins to break down Bo’s no-hockey player policy. With secrets in her past, Bo struggles with her attraction and reactions to our story line hero. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Bo and Gus, and the potential break-down when Gus is called up to the professional league. Throughout the story line our couple find themselves caught up in a series of misadventures that land one or the other in the hospital ER. From a sprained ankle and dog bites, to a hilarious but painful allergic reaction, our couple find themselves participants in a comedy of errors as their relationship continues to grow and build. Bo’s preconceived notions about Gus are quickly blown out of the water with the revelation that his privileged upbringing was anything but. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense; Gus likes to talk dirty both in and out of the bedroom. We are introduced to Gus’ parents, a couple whose humor, and love and support of their son hides an earlier failure that left Gus and his mother struggling to survive. The opposite end of the spectrum finds Bo’s parents struggling with our heroine’s sins of the past, as their constant reminders push our heroine further out of their life. MISADVENTURES WITH A ROOKIE is both humorous and heart breaking as our couple navigate through a series of screw-ups, and secrets. The premise is engaging and enjoyable; the romance is seductive and captivating; the characters are colorful, fun and entertaining.

I simply cannot express how much I love this freaking book! Toni’s Assassins hockey romances are always my go to reads when I’m feeling down or need a pick me up. At first I was a little sad to see her writing a hockey romance without my FAVORITE assassins characters, but after about 2 chapters I was hooked!!! I swear, Gus stole my heart. I mean what girl can resist a good looking cocky man but with such a sweet heart, like the way he calls him mom all the time: “swoon” lol One of the key things for me, was that the hockey aspect did not get lost in the story, it was full front and center. Gus and Bo are by far one of my favorite book couples, they bring you tears but they also bring you burst out of your seat laughing and simply fun. These characters each brought a unique dynamic to story to make it fit perfectly. You cant help but feel a complete connection with both characters, they drew you in! Thank you again Toni Aleo for an AMAZING book!

Toni Aleo is a new author to me but I am not new to the Misadventures Series. Rookie is a totally different story than any of the others. I liked Gus and his carefree attitude from the beginning. I wasn't so sure about Bo as she just seemed a bit mean. I totally understood her not wanting anything to do with the hotshot hockey player but wasn't sure about her way of showing it. As the story moves on and you begin to get to know Bo and her past you realize she has been hurt tremendously. The 2 of them have a lot of walls to break down in order to begin to heal. I'm not usually a fan of sports related books but the hockey was just back ground to give you details about the characters. I enjoyed this quick, easy read. Love that all the books are stand alone so you can read in any order. There were just enough surprises to keep you wanting more. I recommend this book and will be looking for more by the author.

I am not a sports fan, but I love hockey romance and Toni Aleo does it well. Gus and Bo have such a great chemistry and when she gets hurt and he pitches in to help her... loved that. The chemistry between them and all of the other characters just made this such a fun story.

Great balance of heavy, light and unexpected hilarious moments. Toni does a wonderful job of blending all those emotions together to create a perfect reading experience. Gus is funny, caring, sweet, and a player. When he meets Bo he learns that she hates his guts and he is determined find out why. He always gets what he wants, even if has to give up his man whore ways to get her. Bo has been jilted by a hot hockey player before but she has learned her lesson, now she just wants to work and get her degree. When cocky Gus comes along her resolve to keep her feeling locked down starts to fray. Can she forgive herself and be happy. Gus and Bo have so much energy that you can feel it vibrating through these pages. I received an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

One click this baby and get ready for a fun, sexy, sweet and entertaining sports romance filled with drama, passion and lots of whitey and engaging banter. Gus “the Bus” Persson is the newest heartthrob on the ice and is not afraid to play as hard as he works. Bo St. James is a young PT with her eyes on her dream future and no time for any of the hotshot athletes she trains. The sparks are flying and their white hot attraction will not be denied. Overall a must read for any sports romance fan specifically if you enjoy Hockey like I do.

I loved Bo and Gus! Bo with her "I hate him but I want him" inner monologues and Gus with his refusal to be refused cracked me up. Their frequent date location (and the incidents that got them there) had me literally laughing out loud. All the characters - including supporting ones - were all multi-dimensional and very well-written. Loved Gus's family's relationships with each other, and the team and ice girls had some fun parts in the book (laughed when Gus asks "Is your roommate broken"?). It was really weird reading hockey from Toni Aleo without the Assassins family, but this is definitely a do-not-miss book. I want more of Bo and Gus, even as secondary characters!

This book! This book made me crazy! I freaking loved it. My favorite of the Misadventures series. Meet Gus the Bus, hockey defenseman who thought he should have been with the NHL team who drafted him, only to find himself bumped down to the farm team. So Gus has something to prove. If he can keep his stick to himself long enough. He's bonked every girl in town, so pickings are slim. Then he sets his eyes on an ice girl, he watches her and she acts like he doesn't exist. Bo, she has no time for hockey players, she's in Physical Therapy school getting ready to graduate, teaches skiing classes, is doing her internship and the thoughts of this jackass full of himself hockey player pushes all her buttons. Even the right ones. Gus corners her in a bar after a game and won't leave her alone and thus begins his relentless pursuit and her perpetual shut down. Bo has been burned bad. She's left her family back East for reasons only she knows and doesn't let Gus get close. Close means burned to Bo. Throughout the book you see Bo's connection with her Mother and the phone calls. You see Gus really trying to woo Bo for lack of better word, enjoying himself by making up names for her. When the two of them finally burn the sheets it's incendiary. This book was so different than any of the others I've read and I mean that in the best of ways. The characters are stellar, the plot has some twists that I can say I sure as hell didn't see coming and the flow and the writing are perfection. An absolute must read from Toni. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. One of the best books I've read this year. **advanced copy from net galley and publisher for an honest review**

When hockey player Gus (Bus) Perrson sees Bo St. James out on the ice doing her shift as an ice girl, he thinks “I want her”. When Bo looks at him she see hot hockey god from whom she needs to steer clear. Having had her heart torn apart by a similar guy, Bo is not interested. Gus persists and wears her down. As their relationship heats up, they are falling for each other but her past and a big secret stands in the way of their HEA. I enjoyed both of these characters. Gus is definitely a ladies man but he changes his love and leave them style when he meets Bo. He comes from a privileged background but he has had bumps in the road. His parents relationship is actually an integral part in his relationship with Bo in ways he doesn’t realize. Bo is a good person who has been hurt and suffered the consequences from the bad relationship. The chemistry is strong between them and for the most part, they settle their issues like adults. This is a great read by a favorite author.

Oh how the mighty fall when they meet the right person and fall in love. I really liked this book. Our mighty rookie in question, Gus Persson, is one heck of a player both on and off the ice. But then he sets his sights on Bo St. James, one of the ice girls who won’t even give him the time of day. She cuts him right down and it’s just awesome! She is a PT student who teaches skating and is also an ice girl to pay for her schooling. She is working very hard for what she wants and is very driven. Such good writing! Lots of clever, witty and fun banter keeps this a nice light read. Toni Aleo also always manages to make me feel like I’m right on the ice with her players. I love that about her writing, she really knows her hockey! Gus turns out to be this totally sweet, charming, and funny guy who will do anything for Bo. She is guarded but hopeful and trying to enjoy the time she has with Gus however long that may be. Can they figure out how to make this work if Gus gets the call up to the NHL and has to move? Will Bo finally let Gus all the way in and tell him why she is so guarded and allow herself trust him with her secrets and her heart?

Standing up with my hands raised in the air with praise!!!! Toni Aleo does it again!!!!! Another couple to just fall in love with ~Bo and Gus. These two characters you can't help with love their banter. Gus is just a straight forward guy that you just crush on. You get what you see with him but that might not be a bad thing. Bo is the take not crap kind of gal too! She has reason to also. I truly adore the relationship that Gus has with his parents and the story background. Their trips to the ER are a bit of becoming tradition and hilarious. This story line gave me some good laughs too! Though this story was a bit quick, I hope Toni Aleo writes us some more of them to follow up on. Never a disappointment, just a deep yearning for more!!!!
