Curated from the Applause three-volume series, Once More unto the Speech, Dear Friends, edited by Neil Freeman, these monologue from Shakespeare's works are given new life and purpose for today's readers and actors alike.

There are twelve titles in this series, which is divided into four categories: monologues for younger men, monologues for older men, monologues for women, and monologues for any gender, the latter being a unique feature since most monologue books are compiled for either men or women. Each book is presented in a smaller format that is more consistent with standard monologue books.

About the Author

Neil Freeman was the associate professor of theatre at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He also held the position of master teacher with Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Massachusetts. His groundbreaking work in using the first printings of the Shakespeare texts in performance and in the classroom led to lectures at the Shakespeare Association of America and workshops at both the Association of Theatre in Higher Education and the Voice and Speech Association. He prepared and annotated the 36 individual Applause First Folio Editions of Shakespeare's plays.
Paul Sugarman is an actor, editor, writer, and teacher of Shakespeare. He is founder of the Instant Shakespeare Company, which presents annual readings of all of Shakespeare's plays in New York City. He worked with the Actors Shakespeare Company at New Jersey City University as a teacher and performer, working as a verse coach and assistant playmaster as well as appearing in many of their productions.

For ASC he has published annotated acting editions of Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, and The Three Musketeers. With the ATC Conservatory Players he has worked as dramaturg and actor. For Applause Theatre & Cinema Books, he edited John Russell Brown's publication of Shakescenes: Shakespeare for Two and The Applause Shakespeare Library, as well as Neil Freeman’s Applause First Folio Editions and The Applause First Folio of Shakespeare in Modern Type. He has published pocket editions of all of Shakespeare's plays using the original settings of the First Folio in modern type for Puck Press. Sugarman received a BFA from New York University and studied with Kristin Linklater and Tina Packer at Shakespeare & Company.
