I recommended this book for our clinic book club by the time I was half way through. I explained to a fellow physician that the book explained practices already in place, but enhances and reinforces it. The ideas are succinctly and concretely put into the health care encounter. It is a reminder that there is an art form to listening. I think it will be useful from the level of our receptionist to our nurses to our managers and, of course, to us as physicians.

This a 'must read' for every healthcare provider. Readers will recognize the value of keeping this book readily accessible to use as a reference. Motivational interviewing relates to using carefully worded dialogue during patient interaction which will, ultimately, help patients accept THEIR roles in their healthcare and well-being. This is an excellent resource for anyone desiring to improve their communication skills, regardless of one's level of (or field of) expertise.
