This is evidently a taste of characters in a future novel, Wraith Kings #5. Grace Draven has such a great, immersive writing style — I can’t wait to spend more time in this world.
As usual Grace Draven lyricist voice shines in another spellbinding story set in the realm of the Wraith Kings.
Zigana Imre works beside her father and local villagers harvesting shrimp with the help of her horse Gitta hauliing nets. Magically imbued with the gift of water-sight, Zigana can read the water in such a way that she senses danger and sees events. She feels a very evil wrongness after a leviathan from the deep starts attacking her people. At night, the siren song of the creature calls to its victims, especially those who have suffered loss and grief. Zigana must do battle with this ancient foe before more of those dear to her are lost including a recently returned noblewoman half-sister. Many of the elements that Ms. Draven does so well in are in this tale. It has a haunting and almost chilling quality, but is not merely a tale of a monster. Zigana’s heroism and love for her people shine through as she is willing to sacrifice all to save them. This tale might also be considered a prequel of sorts for one of the major characters from EIDOLON named, Andras, whose full story will be told in a future book in The Wraith King series.
